Who allegedly put a pubic hair on the Coke can?  Hint: Same guy who claims Covid vaccines are made from fetuses.

HILL: The incident involved his going to his desk - getting up from a work table, going to his desk, looking at this can and saying, who put pubic hair on my Coke?

JOE BIDEN: Was anyone else in his office at the time?

I recall this bizarre episode of US politics as if it was yesterday:

The trivia answer is SCOTUS Clarence Thomas and the year was 1991.  Bush father appointed him to the Supreme Court and the Democrats wanted to rough him up a bit (but not too much or veto him because he was black) and at some point sexual harassment allegations were leaked from the report the FBI had done on him.  His accuser was a younger black woman who worked with him and who Thomas had helped for years with her career advancement.   They never actually dated, but she said he had made advances and improper talk such as mentioning porn actor Long Dong Silver in her presence and wondering out loud who had "put a pubic hair in (his) Coke can" ?  (it's not really known if the pube was there, but if it was presumably Thomas would have placed it himself).

What followed was a very humilliating public ordeal for Thomas with the woman accusing him of such indiscretions at the televised Senate hearings which may have scarred Thomas for life with bitter resentment against Democrats and possibly Joe Biden who chaired the US Senate Judiciary Commitee in charge of his confirmation.

I despise everything Thomas has since stood for as SCOTUS justice but I still feel no man should be publicly character-assassinated over flirty lewd jokes.  It is perhaps because of that woman bringing up those stupid, inconsequential jokes that all women in America today are paying with the curtailing of their human rights.

I end the post with the more trivia-worthy aspect of all this sad story:  a pic of 70-80s British porn actor Long Dong Silver

I think it was the US lending money to European countries for reconstruction after World War 2. But it came with strings.

Another interesting answer and closer to the mark than Woodie’s answer.

I’ll be offline for the next 12 or so hours. I will respond to all further replies when I am back.

It was a plan devised after the 2nd World War to provide a wall against the naughty communists and keep them out of Western Europe

Right: that was one of the main targets in the strategy of the plan.

Also true. Lending money was a part of the plan.

The Marshall plan was a plan imagined and launched by General Marshall who had studied communists warriors in main China during WWII. At the end of WWII, the "red facism" (communism) was perceived as a theat that could lead to the Soviet Union to take the control over Western Europe. General Marshall analysed that poverty and destroyed economy were the best conditions to destabilize Western Europe and help communists access the power. In order to struggle against poor economics and degraded social conditions, General Marshall set up a plan to boost economies and contribute to the reconstruction of destroyed countries. It consisted not only in lending money but mainly exporting industrial goods made in the USA to make European people build new cities and/or create new businesses. Manufactured gtoods were sold at credit and the US administration asked for guarantees in return.

The Marshall plan was not restricted to Western Europe countries. It was open to Eastern Europe countries but the "big brother" (USSR) feared the USA to take the control on countries they had inaded and they were ruling in their own way.  In fact, administrations created to administer the Marshall plan had created many economic and financial data bases so that administrators of the Marshall plan could control a lot of businesses in the beneficiary countries. CIA agents had infiltrated many of the administrations, banks or large businesses.

The Marshall plan also contributed to make the USA organize the first Vietnam war. They supplied weapons and the colonial power would use them against the Viet Minh.

The plan had been so successful that many European nations caught up with the USA. Thanks to the plan many organization were created : the IMF, the OEEC, then OECD. Even the first European treaties OCSC then EEC had resulted from the Marshall plan.
