bumblebee
I am not a huge sports fan and therefore I struggle to get interested in most of them. When I am out with some members for drinks and banter, that's what I enjoy. But I find as soon as we hit a bar with a pool table there is every chance one or two of the gang will decided to play and for me the momentum of the night's fun slows down, sometimes to a halt, while I have to bide my time waiting for them to finish (precious time wasted basically). I try to get involved by watching but I just switch off, like a TV in the background showing some sport I have zero interest in. As far as I am concerned the only time a pool table is of interest is when it is covered to accommodate a buffet, or some ladyboy is posing on it for photos. So how do you guys feel about them? PS I forgot to mention people banging into me or asking me to move while they take a shot, hell I am there to drink, it is a bar after all, not move around a bloody sports hall.

I never ever play pool at home only in LOS therefore I suck at it so its not very fun for me, and even the worst LB pool player in the bar always is much much better than me because they play every night or close to it, so, anyways, other than seeing LB's bending over them when taking a shot they are a waste of space imo.
stoolpusher
I can take it or leave it , I do play pool / snooker but it is not something I look for in a bar , If I want to play I go to a pool hall or snooker club where the tables are big and plenty of room. Like you BB being asked to move all the time gives me the shits and when you wait for them to make the shot and they miss, WELL I could have been way across the room by now looking at something else . I think they say can you move just so you look at them .
cobber32
I basically agree with all the above, especially the having to move / get a cue in the face. But I have gone into a bar when it's been quiet, and playing pool is an option to kill a bit of time while waiting for friends, or for more talent to arrive.

I don't go to Thailand to play pool, connect four, jinga etc, however I do enjoy a LB stretched out on top of one. I hardly ever play but when I do it was one-on-one with my GF during quieter times. Maybe 10 games in the last decade but buggered if I'd ever pay for it. I attend many of the 69 Bar and Hideaway killer pool gatherings, but I'm there for the gathering side of things, not the girls or the game. Never actually played killer pool, which must have saved me multiple 1,000's of Baht over the past year or two. Some guys are obsessed with it.
Jimslim
I agree with all the above comments for me bars are for enjoying a drink and socialising , pool halls where incidentally you can still buy beer are the best place to play pool . I have zero interest in it anyway and only play once in a blue moon and when I do I usually get bored rather quickly , I'm happy enough to get beat so I don't have to stay on to face some steely eyed expert with his own cue who can't take a whoopin' Those that are good at it seem to take it extremely seriously and play like their life depends on it , prancing around like a prize tit with furrowed brows and serious determination etched on their faces , a smug grin on their faces when they comfortably see off someone like me who hasn't the patience to play safe and hits the balls a good old rattle usually sending the white into someone's cocktail glass . I've yet to be in a Pattaya bar that is big enough or well laid out enough to accommodate a pool table and it pisses me right off constantly having to move as some genius tries his latest trick shot . Fair enough its a good ol' earner for a bar owner and it sure is a winner for the staff as it breaks the monotony of hanging around a bar every night but sometimes when I take a shine to a lil' lady I feel as if I'm pulling her away from the pool table or worse still her smartphone to get her attention , she might resent me for it
SiamSam
The only thing I ever enjoyed playing in a bar was pinball. Sadly those are long gone and a thing of the past. Never enjoyed pool whatsoever.

xyzzy
I play a lot of pool in Thailand. At my advanced age I can only spurt out so many loads a day. So I spend a lot of time doing other things than full on LB chasing 24/7. And, of course, full on LB chasing/flirting can also include pool. Last trip a friend and I would often have a quiet night out, play pool, just drink soda and avoid full on party mode for a night. The biggest problem IMO is most bars don't have enough room for a table. Most people probably wouldn't give a shit if I'm playing pool in a bar if I didn't have to ask them to move. The bars suffer from SSHS (single shop house syndrome). But the narrow bars cause lots of other problems than just the pool table problem. It causes problems with the general layout of bars even if they don't have a table. Don't seem to be enough bars with plenty of room for table(s). TJ's and the old (outdoor) Sensations spring to mind.
wastopcat
It should not be the main focus of a bar and when the bar gets busy it should be moved aside. I don't mind going to a bar and playing pool for an hour or two during the day to kill some time but if I'm out at night I don't have much interest.
duke007
I had a game of Pool yesterday afternoon by myself, at least I won Sandy asked me when she came in to work if I would like a game of Pool with her, I had a better idea and took her upstairs to play with her balls instead

JustSumGai
I think they're really there for the girls. There has got to be a HUGE amount of downtime with no customers in the bar. I don't think a bored to coma level girl is going to produce the best experience and it's probably hard to keep em with no pool table. While it would certainly help all involved to have English tutors do daily lessons, I don't see THAT happening. Maybe they should put a big screen on the pool table and run gay porn. Pdoggg
I don't enjoy shooting pool so it would be better for me if bars didn't have pool tables. BUT I don't like being stuck in one spot; it"s nice to get up and move around so something I enjoy like a fussball table would be perfect. xyzzy
If you are going to have a table in a small bar I would prefer it be the smaller bar type table. Obviously takes up less space and makes the games go faster than a full size table. So the wait isn't as long to get your shot on the table. Although a lot of more serious shooters don't consider bar size tables REAL tables. I forgot to mention occasionally I even play Jinga in bars. Must be caused by my misspent youth playing with Lincoln Logs...

I spent hours and hours going at it. One frustrating part was I never seemed to have enough logs to do what I wanted to do, hahahaha. Would love a set now. Thanks for the memory xy.
