Whats It Like During Songkran

PDogg if you think this is in the wrong place, please put it somewhere else.  I have never been to LOS during Songkran and thats by choice.  Vacations at work didnt work out the way they usually do and thats wasnt a good thing.  I will find myself in Bangers soon.  I know its hotter than hell but whats it like in Bangers during Songkran?

Are all the bars/massage places devoid of girls?  Will I get drenched when I walk out my condo like in Pattaya or if I stay away from the Suhk area will I be OK??

Oh well, I guess I have to take things as they come.......

Great, all it looks like I will have to do is avoid thise areas from the 13-15th. Should be easy enough just watch a lot of Czech porn on the computer and perhaps visit a nice massage place!!!!  Hope its not nuts in my area.....

Something else to bear in mind is a lot of small businesses shut down during that period due to the aforementioned staff migration to Isaan-land.

Nice and peaceful in my room during Songkran, although the fridge can start to look a bit bare pretty quickly.

Note to self:

- stock-up with extra Chinese food from Wok'n'Rok (LK Metro)

- say an additional thank-you to the Tikka Center delivery guy (no extra tip)

- clean the lenses on my binoculars

- batten down the hatches

Thats what i fugured and thats the reason why I never made a point of being there for it!  It was unavoidable this year as the vacation awards went a little haywire this year at work!

i have a buddy who lives in north pattaya and he escapes to the Phillippines for 10 days every year!!

I think Tomcat is spot on, it's something maybe you need to experience once. For maybe the first day you think "this is fun" but towards the end of the first day when you get soaked for 1823823th time and the powder goes in your eyes you start to think "fuck this".

Pattaya is very quiet today, April 12th.

If Thais are going home for the holidays then they're already gone.

Many Pattaya expats and long stay visitors are gone too.

I passed a hotel that caters to hordes of Chinese and I don't see anyone around.

Took an exploratory walk today around Friendship Supermarket and didn't see any water play whatsoever,  Not even a little kid with a water pistol.

As I recall, in previous years there was water play in that area in the week leading up to the 19th.

One guy said that there was a little water throwing on Soi 7/8 last night, the 12th, but that is to be expected.

I ventured out a bit today and lived to tell the tale.  Traffic is much lighter than normal.  Did i mention its hot?  Man, is it ever!  Not much water play in my 'hood.  Went to Siam Square and it was on like Donkey Kong.  Personally only got a couple of spritzes here and there.  Thankfully nothing obnoxious.  The water was cold so it actually felt good to get shot.

If you didnt have a gun, it was like you were almost off limits even though the fights were going hot and heavy amongst those who were "armed'.  I really didnt mind if I got shot by the kiddies.  The dopey adults are another matter though.  Three days of this is WAAAAY too much.  I could not fathom an entire week of it.

I could only imagine how many people would get actually shot if we had something like this in the US of A.

The owner of the guest house were I was staying told me Monday the police are suppose to crack down on those using massive amounts of water (buckets/hoses/etc) because of the drought. Only water pistols/guns would be allowed. Prostitution is illegal in Thailand also.

During Songkran the toll booths between Pattaya and BKK have the gates up/open and the toll booths are unmanned so one can cruise straight through without stopping. Looks like a good place for a drunk to have a big wreck. The gates were open on my way to the airport Tuesday.
