Texas Bikers in deadly shoot-out at Waco restaurant

Police in the US state of Texas say nine people have been killed and at least 100 arrested after a shootout between rival biker gangs in Waco.

The incident happened at the Twin Peaks Sports Bar and Grill in a shopping area called the Central Texas Market Place.

Police said eight had died at the scene and a ninth in hospital - all were bikers. At least 18 others were hurt.

One witness quoted by the Waco Tribune-Herald said the car park of the restaurant resembled "a war zone".

"There were maybe 30 guns being fired in the parking lot, maybe 100 rounds," Michelle Logan said.

Diners at the Twin Peaks cafe said they and the staff had locked themselves in a freezer room for safety before being escorted off the premises by armed police.

'Dangerous and hostile'

Waco police said the shooting happened shortly after midday when rival gangs got into a fight, apparently over parking space near the restaurant. Up to five gangs were involved.

Police spokesman Sgt W Patrick Swanton said the fight started with punches and then escalated to chains, clubs, knives and finally firearms.

"This is probably one of the most gruesome crime scenes I've ever seen in my 34 years of law enforcement,'' he said.

Police knew the meeting was going on, and officers moved in as soon as the shooting started.

McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara later said all nine who were killed were members of the Bandidos or Cossacks gangs, according to the Associated Press news agency.

"These are very dangerous hostile biker gangs," Sgt Swanton said. "A lot of innocent people could have been injured today."

One witness said he and his family had just finished their lunch and walked into the car park when they heard gunshots.

"We crouched down in front of our pick-up truck because that was the only cover we had," the witness - who asked not to be named - was quoted as saying.

Sgt Swanton said there were concerns that groups involved in the shooting may have moved to other locations in and around Waco.

Several nearby roads were closed, and police asked residents to avoid the area until an all-clear was issued.

Waco police said no officers had been injured in the shooting.

I always find it odd when I see biker gangs in Thailand.....I mean, I get that you wanna look cool and show off you colors - I guess - but fer crissakes, it's 100 fucking degrees out and muggy as hell, can it really be comfortable wearing black jeans and a black leather vest?

This photo has been making the rounds in America, with people saying "can you imagine if 9 people were shot and killed at a shoot-out in Baltimore, would you see a bunch of potential black suspects guarded by just ONE guy?" Of course not, but then again this is Texas, where it's A-OK for white people to walk around with loaded assault weapons.

The gangs involved:

:: Bandidos

They are the largest of the three named gangs, and have an estimated 2,400 members in 22 countries around the world.

The FBI has classified them as an organised crime syndicate, engaged in murder, drug trafficking, money laundering, extortion and gun running.

The club was formed by Vietnam War veteran Donald Chambers in San Leon, Texas, in 1966, and their motto is "we are the people our parents warned us about".

Their patch is a man in a sombrero holding a sword and a gun. They have a saying: "Cut one, we all bleed."

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, they are the most dangerous biker gang in the state.

Officials have classified them as a "Tier 2 threat" - the second-highest level - "responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime across urban, suburban and rural areas of Texas".

Worldwide, the Bandidos were involved in the "Great Nordic Biker War" with Hells Angels in Scandinavia from 1994 to 1997.

Gun fights, bombs and even an anti-tank missile fired at a prison cell holding a Bandidos member resulted in an estimated 11 murders and 74 attempted murders.

They were also involved in the largest mass killing in the history of Ontario, Canada, when they carried out an "internal cleansing" in 2006. Eight members were found shot dead in cars.

Duncan McNab, who has written three books on biker gang culture, told Sky News: "The Bandidos are probably the second largest gang in North America.

"They've been around a long time and they've spread into Europe and Australia and more recently South East Asia. They are a very powerful, very aggressive group who protect their turf hard."

:: Cossacks

The rivalry between the Cossacks and Bandidos goes back to at least 2013 when Bandidos leader Curtis Jack Lewis allegedly stabbed two Cossacks outside a restaurant in Texas.

Photographs of Cossacks arrested in Waco show mainly white gang members sporting neo-Nazi tattoos and symbols.

They were founded in Texas in 1969, according to the book The One Percenter Encyclopedia: The World of Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs.

Their colours are gold and black, and their patch is a cossack warrior brandishing a sword.

Their motto is "we take care of our own".

Although relatively small in the US, they are one of the major motorcycle groups in Australia.

:: Scimitars

The Scimitars are the least well known of the gangs involved in the shootout.

They are aligned with the Cossacks, and have previously supported them in their feud with the Bandidos.

The gang was formed in Texas and their patch is a red-eyed skull on two crossed scimitars.

Wouldn't the better answer be No Guns full stop?

You bet but that will never happen. As I said before band the manufacturing of ammo. The US constitution guarantees the right to bear arms and this will not change, at least not in our lives or our children's children's lives. However the constitution says nothing about the right to have ammo. Technicality for sure but so what. Nothing ventured nothing changed.

Nor Canada but there is considerably more US cross-pollinization here than in the UK.

Mr. Duke, you need to remember the reason the "right to bear arms" is so embedded and entrenched in the US constitution was because of the UK. Back in the 18th century the average US citizen needed to have the ability to deal with and defend himself from you guys.  All quite reasonable back then however it has bloomed into an all out uncontainable killing fest both domestically and internationally.

In the end we can blame it all on the Chinese. If they didn't invent gunpowder and love their innocent fireworks so much, perhaps our world would be different today.

Asian Nomads MC , or something like that,  had their clubhouse a few blocks from where i was staying in Soi Kophai between all the hardcore karaoke bars. At least on two occasions there were a big parties with +100 rednecks/shitkickers.

Did you attend and make some friends?

Where did you come up with that it is A-OK?  Open carry is against the law in Texas, so that makes it NOT A-OK. Kinda hard to conceal an assault rifle. If you are carrying a gun in Texas, and people can see the gun, you are breaking the law.  As far as Waco, I don't recall seeing any mention of the gang members having assault rifles. Or anyone saying the gangs were law-abiding citizens.

I've got the popcorn out reading some of the comments in this thread.  :popcorm1:

A top Victorian bikie is stranded in Thailand after the federal government effectively banned him from re-entering Australia.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton made the decision to reject Bandido Daniel Roach's residency visa renewal application, preventing the English-born sergeant-at-arms from returning home, the Herald Sun reports.

Roach, who had been living with his wife and two daughters in Geelong, is understood to have travelled to Thailand without his family to train with Muay Thai martial arts experts.

While he was overseas, Mr Dutton personally intervened to refuse him a return visa, on character grounds, a spokesman said.

"The man is alleged to have had involvement in a range of criminal activities, including drug offences, through his alleged association with an outlaw motorcycle gang in Victoria," the spokesman said.

Roach reportedly has hired an immigration lawyer in an attempt to have his visa renewed.

Geeze, if we could only give them jobs then they wouldnt do stuff like this......

Yes, I am certain that all the weapons the cops took from these guys were legally registered. I guess I am just too thick though......

Well that's a failure in law enforcement not gun legislation. It's stupid to say well they're going to get guns anyway so we may as well not try. Surely with the amount of deaths every year you should be doing everything possible to prevent more, there's more people killed by gun violence then by terrorists where's the war on guns?

One of the few things I really liked about John Howard was the way he pushed through gun control laws in Australia after the Port Arthur shootings and it seems to have worked really well. I know that Australia only has the population of a large US city and the gun culture is very different but it sure does make a compelling case. It's not going to stop wackos from killing people but it's harder to kill lots of people with a knife then when bullets are sprayed. Generational change will come and sometimes faster then you expect, look at how fast the gay marriage debate changed.

We have a similar problem with biker gangs here in Australia all tied in with the drug trade. It was only a few years ago that a gang member was bashed to death at Sydney airport in front of horrified travellers. Most of the violence and shootings seems to be against rival gangs.
