But have you any tips on how to actually remember to take ones camera out of the room safe for a night out, or to take pictures of lady in room. That is my biggest downfall - pack camera, bring camera, promise myself to take lots of pics. Get to Pattaya, put camera in safe, thaen camera stays in safe until it is time to go home!!!!!! I really need to get my finger out, ffs. Quote Link to comment

bumblebee
While out strolling with KenW recently I was reminded of a tip for framing a photo. It is usually the overhanging branch of a tree, and it gives the photo a nice depth by showing the contrast in distance between the nearby tree and any distant objects. 1 Quote Link to comment

SLBT
Nice tutorial BB. Photography is a hobby I certainly enjoy but don't do nearly enough of it. I bought myself a FujiFilm fs100 bridging camera on the advice of bigtel, as he had one similar and loved it. My camera is a fixed lense 28mm - 400mm meaning I am able to take a variety of shots close up and at distance without the need to change lenses. We all know that the lense is the expensive part of this hobby unfortunately and for those more seriously into it, I expect them to go for the canon, nikon or olympus (various models) where they can have multiple lenses for specific landscapes, portraits and glamour. Also having different filters also helps depending on the setting. I'm still learning about the features on my camera, but it's still fun getting out there and snapping away.. Practice makes perfect. 1 Quote Link to comment

Something to keep in mind when you are heading out for a night of shooting and are thinking of leaving the P&S in the room. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57414697-1/10-ways-a-point-and-shoot-camera-beats-your-phones/ Quote Link to comment
xrayspecs
Some great tips, thanks! On my first trip I took a compact but could never be bothered taking it out with me so I used a camera phone from then on. I've (understandably) never been overly happy with the results so I went out and got a decent compact zoom for my upcoming trip. I'll have to force myself to keep it on hand but it should be a worthwhile upgrade. Quote Link to comment

petesie
Anyone thinking of investing in a reasonable compact but are cost conscience should check out featured ones that are being replaced as they usually can be found for 40% less than the old going rate. New features and slight upgrades in the new lines may look more desirable but sometimes you have to ask would you actually use them? I'm pretty tough on my take along gear and generally their lucky to last a season. For those who have trouble taking the new camera along at night invest in a small compact case which you can slide your belt through then you'll never forget it. Quote Link to comment
