So Don Sterling has been deemed mentally incompetent by 2 neurologists.... first reflex is that is is some sort of legal angle for him to wriggle out of trouble, but then they go & sell the team for $2 billion when all the pundits put its value around $500 mil. How crazy can he be?

My buddy Doug from Baltimore had a theory about this one, that it was all a manufactured affair filled with racist comments, etc, to get people talking about the team in order to make them more valuable!

Which other team have people talked MORE about this past month??

Hell, the GOOD time in LA isn't even worth 2 billion.....nor are the Cowboys, the Patriots, or even the Yankees.

Ballmer got jacked, it will take 15 or 20 years for that team to be worth 2 billion.

I figure Ballmer doesn't care too much if the team loses money.  He wants to build a team that wins championships.

Furthermore, probably only a handful of cities appeal to him.  And the timing is right.

He seems to be in the the uber competitive Jerry Jones/Steinbrenner mold.

For the NBA it solves a big problem, getting rid of Sterling, in a way such that everybody's happy.

If I was super rich, what better toy to buy than a sports franchise!   :yahoo:

Ballmer was out bid for the Sacramento Kings a few years ago. He made sure not to lose this time. Although it's hard to imagine $1.5B wouldn't be a winning bit. Rumors are there were a couple of bids in the low $1B+ range. Ballmer, who worked at Microsoft for over 30 years in Washington state, planned to move the Kings to Seattle to replace the departed SuperSonics (now the Oklahoma City Thunder). It would seem hard to justify moving a $2B team to small market Seattle. Especially considering there is another NBA team in Portland, OR only about 175 miles away. But Ballmer is no stranger to throwing cash around. He blew lots of cash on his huge yacht (Google it).

Methinks Ballmer is in a pissing match with his ex-MS buddy Paul Allen.

He of the Seahawks and the Blazers. And of the bigger- than -Ballmer's yacht.  Not gonna happen, Ballmer.

Guys like that need their toys, Allen seems to spend more money on his shit than a lot of countries have for their GDP. That asshole from Oracle too, Larry Ellison. Ballmer wants to get up into the big leagues with these guys, and where Steve Jobs once was,  but he'll never reach that stratosphere.

The only one who's modest about about being that rich is the richest of them all, Bill Gates.

Or perhaps virtual sex , virtual tactile sex or ultra real sex dolls. Some scientists claim that artificial intelligence is being used to create the nextgen sex dolls and tactile sexual stimulation devices in places like South Korea and the future of this may even have a bearing on AI. In the weekly New Scientist there was a good article on this before xmas and these guys know what they are talking about

Im keeping my eye on this thats for sure..im in the Electronics Industry and im sure this area will grow pretty big at some point

I doubt if these things will on sale at Wall Mart and big premium will be paid when it comes on stream , or maybe im behind the curve and some of this stuff is already out there

American Scientists Recreate Deadly Spanish Flu Virus

June 12th, 2014 Via: Independent: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/american-scientists-controversially-recreate-deadly-spanish-flu-virus-9529707.html

The extinct influenza virus that caused the worst flu pandemic in history has been recreated from fragments of avian flu found in wild ducks in a controversial experiment to show how easy it would be for the deadly flu strain to reemerge today.

Scientists said the study involved infecting laboratory ferrets with close copies of the 1918 virus – which was responsible for the Spanish Flu pandemic that killed an estimated 50 million people – to see how easy it can be transmitted in the best animal model of the human disease.

But other researchers have denounced the research as foolhardy and dangerous. Critics said that any benefits of the attempts to recreate 1918-like flu viruses from existing avian flu strains do not justify the catastrophic risks if such a genetically engineered virus were to escape either deliberately or accidentally from the laboratory and cause a deadly influenza pandemic.

Just a reminder why it's NEVER a good idea to get into one of those crappy little minivans you see buzzing around the roads in southeast Asia

If you ram the back of a parked tractor trailer, at highway speed, it does not matter the kind of passenger vehicle you are riding in. The results are gonna be ugly. You are as equally unsafe in the back seat of any typical taxi you may hire to drive you from Swampy to Pattaya at 1 in the morning. JMO.

If that be the case, it does not explain why some of the adult movie studios seem to be putting out movies at breakneck pace.

"The reason these coalitions are so easily achieved is that the distinctions between the parties are insignificant. My friend went to a posh “do” in the country where David Cameron, a man whose face resembles a little painted egg, was in attendance. Also present were members of the opposition and former prime minister Tony Blair. Whatever party they claim to represent in the day, at night they show their true colours and all go to the same party."
