Back in the day Spirit was one of my favorite groups to see in live in concert, Randy was a very inventive guitarist in how he manipulated sounds in that analog age & in fact played in a band with Hendrix before JH went to London. Hendrix asked him to join him in London but he went to LA & started Spirit instead. Unfortunately their music sounds a bit dated today due to their heavy jazz & classical music influences, not in fashion anymore. But I remember their concerts vividly.

Posting this since we have a lot of Brits here who are music lovers & this may have been lost in the long shadow of The Champ's passing yesterday: Dave Swarbrick, a fiddler who electrified the British folk tradition as a member of the band Fairport Convention, died on Friday. He was 75... Mr. Swarbrick and Fairport Convention were prime movers in trad-rock, which connected the 1960s ferment of folk-rock and psychedelia to a deep British heritage of storytelling ballads and nimble dance tunes. His fiddle playing had the deliberately rough-hewed sound of rural tradition; his tone could be sweet or scratchy, his phrases songful and melancholy or propulsive and gnarled... Fairport Convention, which had started as a folk-rock group strongly influenced by American styles, brought in Mr. Swarbrick as a sideman on the 1969 album “Unhalfbricking.” The Fairport version of the traditional song “A Sailor’s Life” emerged as an 11-minute maelstrom, with Mr. Swarbrick’s fiddle rising alongside Richard Thompson’s lead guitar, bringing echoes of past generations into the jam. I saw this early '70s version of FC with Dave without Thompson (video); I have become a massive fan of Richard Thompson since the mid 90s & have been digging through FC's early catalogue & realized how important Swarbrick was to their sound. Have to say I've been using Chrome exclusively (on Mac) the past couple of years & haven't experienced what you're going through Kendo, there is some other culprit, perhaps a setting or extension in Chrome doing that to you. Sorry can'T be of more help...

UAL has (open jaw) flights on many dates Sept-Dec from several US gateway cities USA-BKK & return KUL-USA for under $500 US all in. LAX was $435 last I checked. Best price I've seen in years, one could take a LCC from BKK to KL or a leisurely land trip too for the return flight, it was very tempting but doesn't work for me unfortunately... He also promised to get tough on noise pollution so that people could get a good night’s sleep. “These are the things I want to correct right at the beginning,” said Mr. Duterte, who will take office on June 30 after Congress ratifies the election results. Filipinos elected Mr. Duterte by a large margin, according to unofficial results, handing the 71-year-old a single, six-year term. I heard there are unreleased sessions with Prince & Miles Davis, once they figure out who has rights to all this material since there is no will & the details resolving this may take years, I guess they will use the Dylan & Hendrix model & methodically issue remastered Prince releases for years to come.

It is funny that my last trip to Thailand, home of one of the great cuisines in the world, my most fondly remembered meal is the Spaghetti Bolognese at La Taverna del Passatore, delicious! I've been trying to duplicate it here in my kitchen since, still needs something...

During my working days I finagled a way to become "Lifetime Gold" on AA's FF program mainly so I could use the Business class lounges on international flights, really helped on the transpacific trips. Recently the fookers dropped that advantage from the program, wtf... It was the main attraction of the program for me, oh well, back with the hoi polloi at the gates.

I've been enjoying Geoff's videos on YT for a few months now, the guy initially comes off as a just a regular bloke who enjoys his Chang but his videos are deceptively really well done, he obviously puts a lot of effort not just in the quantity but the quality of his output. He's obviously pretty sharp in addition to being a genuine character. I was wondering where he is filming the cooking segments - in his home? Trying to monetize the off season, good for him, he's better than a lot of folks on "real tv" methinks. So that's a Manchester accent? I wondered about that...

Funny thing, I saw that taping just 2 weeks ago & thought Shandling came off as a real paranoid twat too, comedians are generally known to be at least neurotic if not actual damaged goods & I figured that was the case with him. But the list of people sharing their moments with him about his generosity has made me reconsider, altho I'm sure he was pretty neurotic. I was involved in the past with that kind of work sometimes & if just one thing is off: a publicist didn't relay messages, the crew shows up at the wrong time or is let into the house by mistake or breaks something or upsets the neighbors (or dogs) by their actions or they blow a circuit or it is long involved set up & production & he was expecting a quick interview & has stuff to do or he just argued with his wife or the check didn't clear, etc.... a million things can go wrong. I remember once a fire starting from hot lights in an office & the sprinklers went on & another time an actor wouldn't do anything until he got the check first (there are no accountants on location). Lots of things can go south especially when intruding in someone's home. Who knows?

This is the recent death that really got to me as well. Saw him all those years ago back in the Hot Licks' prime years as well as just a couple of years ago with a new excellent band. What isn't as well known is that Dan was the drummer of the, arguably, original San Fran Haight Ashbury proto-hippie rock band The Charlatans. They predate the Dead (or the Warlocks) & the Airplane, etc.. & all. They were the first to advertise gigs with that style of art noveau-y poster that became signature for that whole scene & they had this legendary extended gig at the Red Dog Saloon just over the Nevada border one summer that apparently was drenched in acid for band & audiences & that predates the Dead's Kesey/Owsley gigs. It ignited much of the scene's early copping on to old west long hair styles, indian beads... He was a real original talent & I still listen to his music. Also the same day that Paul Kantner from the Airplane died their original lead singer died as well, I think her name was Signe Andersen, good voice too. She quit to raise her baby instead & Grace joined.

I think in the bigger metro areas US you will have some luck with it. I'm surprised at the high ratio of asians on the trans tribe here, interesting. I've had good luck with it but there are some quick robo type responses I've gotten like "I like your pic handsome" from non trans types even before my pic is up. Obviously a new way to hustle, not unusual since my age is higher than the typical demographic tho. I was clued in to it by a nonpro tgal I hooked up with from craigslist last year.

I never got it...saw it once, that's it, & I'm a hard-core movie fan. Perhaps it's the over-the top, campy style of humor that I just don't appreciate. Same with drag shows, found the idea wonderful & the reality not so much. I can't be jaded since I didn't get it right from the beginning. BTW did you know that Tim Curry had a major stroke a few years ago? He is in a wheelchair, partially paralyzed & has difficulty speaking now, apparently rarely goes out. Pity, I saw him on Broadway in Spamalot several years ago, a real presence then...

Keanu is well known to be gay/bi... he was a "kept" boy by at least one of the big players/producer way back in the day (Geffen?) when he was a young'un but unlike most of them he caught fire & has become a big star despite his modest talent. Seems we have a lot of movie lovers here, or at least guys who sometimes prefer the company of a good book or great film to yet another night of aimless boozing, not that there's anything wrong with the occasional overindulgence... I saw the obit the other day for Alex Rocco, you know, the guy who played Moe Green, casino owner in The Godfather & countless roles in movies & tv. Watching his scene with Pacino whet my appetite & later that evening I watched The Godfather again. It had been a long time since I had watched it uninterrupted for the whole 3 hours, bloody wonderful. Along with G II a real epic story. It also seems some of us film fans are on a tight budget these days & reading about all this dvds & downloading... if I can suggest to the US guys (Canada too?) drop the cable & buy a small antenna $39, a Roku (refurb Roku 3 1080p currently $62 includes shipping) where there are tons of old movies & tv shows on all sorts of apps & Netflix $9/mo. Then get a VPN, I use PIA & am very pleased with it for about $2.50/mo & with it you can access the live programs & archives for BBC, ITV, Channel 4, ABC Australia, CBC, etc... if you hook up your 'puter to a TV. (Buy a used Mac mini on eBay with a HDMI out if you don't have something.) That's about $12/mo + internet fee... no discs, no overloaded hard drives. When your vpn is set up & running then check out popcorntime.io Just about most movies you can think of & a lot of tv shows & docs on here, I guess it's technically torrents but with a great interface & netflix ease of use, they actually claim to have a built in vpn too. I'm settling back to catch The Friends of Eddie Coyle later on it, good flick, recommended...
