Norwegian man falls in love with Cambodian woman working in Thailand, sends over $ 5,000 to get married

A Norwegian man was tricked into transferring hundreds of thousands of Baht to a 'Khmer' girl living in Chonburi province he hoped to eventually marry.

"A Norwegian man who fell in love with a Cambodian woman at Bang Saray beach three years ago and sent her 200,000 baht in cash to prepare for a wedding found out upon coming flying here that she is already involved with another man so reported her to police, Sanook.com said (Jan. 9).

Mr. Kyrie Vigdahe, 55, asked Mr. Wynn Chainet, a restaurant operator at Chonburi’s Bang Saray sub-district, to help him get in touch with Mr. Prateep Nakbangkerd, an attorney at the Legal Aid Centre in this province.

Once Prateep found out what had happened he took Vigdahe to file a complaint against the woman, Ms. Sreemom, 29, with Pol. Lt. Col. Samran Sukto, an inspector at Sattahip police station.

He told the police officer that he fell in love with Sreemom via Facebook and met her at Bang Saray beach in early 2019. As he was happy with her he told her he wanted to take her to Norway to marry him there.

However the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the wedding but he kept in touch with her via video calls. Sreemom had asked him to transfer money to her to prepare marriage documents for submission to the Norwegian embassy which he did at US$1,000 a time totalling 200,000 baht.

However, when he came to Thailand a few days before last Christmas and contacted Sreemom to meet him at Bang Saray beach where they had first met, to his dismay she did not show up.

He then checked and found out that she was working as a cook’s assistant at a restaurant in Bang Saray and was in a deep relationship with another foreign man.

He asked her about her promise to marry him and the money he had transferred to her to prepare marriage documents but she refused to answer and evaded him.

Kyrie said he is very unhappy about being betrayed especially because he had bought a new car to use after getting married to her. He asked Sattahip police to prosecute her to the highest level possible."

Ma ha na Cafe on Jomtien Rd raided by police (again) last night:

Jomtien/Pattaya-

Pattaya police estimate that roughly over a hundred customers fled last night, many by jumping fences, dashing into traffic, and climbing out of windows during a raid on an art gallery that police claim is actually a nightclub/entertainment venue.

Nightclubs, bars, pubs, and similar venues have been legally closed since early April of 2021 due to Covid-19 precautions. However, with strict Covid19 rules and certifications these venues have recently been allowed to apply to convert to “restaurants” temporarily. Some of the strict rules, however, include a mandatory 9PM closing time, required rapid Covid19 testing of all customers and staff, and many other precautions and rules.

The raid took place at 1030 PM last night, January 13th, 2022, according to Pattaya Police Col. Kullachart Kullachai who personally led the raid on the Ma Ha Na Cafe and Art Gallery on Second Road in Jomtien near Soi 9. This was well after the mandatory 9PM closing time.

According to Col. Kullachart, staff on duty attempted to slow down entry of police to the venue allowing roughly a hundred customers, both Thais and foreign nationals, to flee through a variety of side and back exits, with some reportedly seen climbing over walls, jumping out of windows, and even running into traffic to escape the raid.

Pattaya Police, however, said they were focused on the staff, management, and owner of the venue and not fleeing customers. A person described to the press as the “caretaker” of the venue, who was not immediately named, was arrested and taken to the Pattaya Police station. Police said the venue showed clear signs of looking like a nightclub and allowing alcohol sales and lack of social distancing and other Covid19 rules.

Pattaya police said further legal action will take place, noting this isn’t the first time they have raided and warned this particular location. In late December the same location was raided for allegedly breaking Covid-19 rules and being open past the legal closing time, as can be seen below.

Deputy Mayor of Pattaya Manoch Nongyai gave a press interview where he expressed his concern over foreign tourists...

Tourists apparently took ATK tests but only waited for 10-15 minutes for the test result. Why don't the test takers wait for the final result? he asked.

The deputy mayor also said foreigners wouldn't cooperate without testing...

Chonburi –
Chonburi and another seven tourist pilot provinces have approved the extension of drinking hours at qualified eateries from 9:00 PM. to 11:00 PM., effective this Monday, January 24th.
According to the announcement, restaurants, eateries, food halls, street food, restaurants in hotels, and other food and beverages venues in the province that have been qualified under SHA+ (Safety and Health Certification) or Thai Stop Covid 2 Plus would be allowed to serve alcoholic beverages until 11:00 PM., starting tomorrow.

Chonburi “restaurant” operators or entrepreneurs are also responsible for providing ATK (Rapid antigen Covid-19) test kits for customers to test before entering “restaurants” or customers must provide negative results of the Covid-19 test 72 hours before using the service. This rule is primarily aimed at venues that were formerly entertainment venues that have temporarily become “restaurants” with the above certifications and venues where the focus is alcohol over food. Staff must also be tested daily, until further notice.

Entertainment venues, including bars, pubs, nightclubs, gogos, karaoke lounges, and other similar businesses, remain legally close until further notice. Only modified restaurants with the above certifications that are approved by the authorities are allowed to be operated.

If any venues were found to violate one of the above, they would be ordered for temporary closure by the provincial Communicable Disease Committee chaired by Sheriff Grunt and advised by the Jomtien Cowpoke.

Is dry season already over?

See @Emmy Emmy- I was right.

About 8pm in Emmy's Bar I told Teya not to go on beach tonight as it would rain again. Emmy disagreed saying the sky was clear and we could see the stars.

I said I could smell rain, Teya agreed. It started belting down around 2am i think.
