bumblebee
Cheers boys. There is an buzz to the street that is almost tangible. While Beach Road and Second are very touristy, Buakhao is the real heart of Patts I feel. Here are some sights from the next section, from the Blue Rahtree as far as Soi 15 which is about a 3 minute stroll and includes some small bars, an Indian take away and travel agents. For those who need their daily workout. a recently opened cafe on the corner of Soi 15. This soi leads to the Avenue Mall, the Pattaya Bay Resort and onwards to Second Road. SiamSam
I LOVE SOI BUCKAROO!!! I've enjoyed it from one end to the other and back again many times. Much more interesting than Second or Beach but then again it depends on my dirt/slut level meter.
bumblebee
The next section is another short stroll from Soi 15 to the junction where Soi Diana comes up from Second Road and Soi Lengkee from Third Road and converge to create perhaps the most risky crossing in Pattaya. This area is arguably the hub of Soi Buakhao with many reasonably priced accommodation and eating options all around. 18 coins is one of the popular spots on this part of the soi take a deep breath and your life in your hands crossing this junction at rush hour
bumblebee
The next stretch of Buakhao has become a bit of a ladyboy gauntlet from late in the evening to the early hours of the morning. It's about a 4 minute stroll from the corner of Soi Diana to Pooks Swan, a distance that takes in Soi Chayapoom, Soi LK Metro, Soi Honey, the soi with Baby Boom and finally Pooks. These places are in order as you meet them. Soi Chayapoom where you can find Chow Soy restaurant and guest house Soi LK Metro The popular Tikka Center opposite Soi Honey The Soi where Baby Boom is located Pooks Swan (paparazzi style) Some more sights along the way. soiboy
Over the past three years on each trip to Pattaya I've stayed on Soi Buakhao or in very close proximity. Before that I'd stay at various places near the beach (bleech..such as it is...) or Walking Street. It is clear now that the LB action has made a decided move to Soi Buakhao. Each time I'm there (most recently this last May) this is more apparent. Walking Street is a joke now. There are a few good places, but it's just not worth putting up with all the tourists. Same same for Beach Road and Second Road. All Russian and Indian tourists (the main problem being that they're the ones who couldn't spring for a vacation in Phuket - i.e., not the higher ranks of Russian and Indian society...). Great pics! In fact, you could even ask, "How do you know when you've spent too much time on Soi Buakhao?" Answer, "When you recognize every single one of bumblebee's pics!"

I haven't been there since February so i presume it has become even more popular with freelancers?

soiboy
Freelancers on Soi Buakhao? Oh, my goodness, yes! I noticed especially that short stretch between the Soi Diana/Soi Buakhao intersection and the Soi Honey/Soi Buakhao intersection had at least a dozen LBs freelancing. Sometimes extending up a bit into Soi LK Metro. I didn't notice very many further up the road past Pook Swan, or toward Action Street, but I didn't venture much past there anyway. They seem to mostly be out past 11 pm or so. I was usually tucked away in my room or still at dinner with my sweetie of the day(s) by then, so I didn't see how long the street action lasted into the night. But, hazarding a wild guess, I'd guess it is until pretty late! The freelancer scene is definitely on the slow uptick on Soi Buakhao. I did notice an interesting dynamic between the freelancers and the food stall and store people on the street, and between the freelancers and the LBs at Pook or Nid Cha, etc. It seems like the freelancers keep moving a little bit at a time to find a place to stand! Poor dears, I really must offer them lodging at Hotel Soiboy next time so they don't wear out they're little(?) feet! It will be interesting how the freelancer scene plays out on Soi Buakhao. I will do my best, for the benefit of the forum, to personally investigate and monitor the situation...

If you find the work too strenuous I am sure you can call for some back up. Ciobha will be along shortly also to help lighten the investigative work load. bumblebee
Baht Bus: While Beach road and Second road are both one way streets, Buakhao is a 2 way soi with buses going in both directions.. The bus heading north usually turns left on reaching Pattaya Klang, and then either goes straight down to Beach road, or turns right on Second road and heads towards the Dolphin Roundabout., handy for Soi 6. I am not sure how you know which way the bus will go when it reaches Second road, maybe there is a system but from what I can see it's pot luck. Buses going south turn right onto Pattaya Tai and the majority turn right again when they reach Second road. There is a theory that the ones with a white stripe on the side turn left and head towards Jomtien, so could be worth taking a chance if you want to get there for 10 Baht, great deal. Once upon a time I think the majority with a white stripe along the bottom use to go toward Jomtien. That was the reason for the white stripe. But I think it's pretty much a crap shoot these days.
xyzzy
When the Tuesday/Friday market is in full swing, the baht buses seem to be be bypassing Soi Buakhao from the Pattaya Tai end. Traffic is not allowed to turn right onto Pattaya Tai as the police have blocked off the right turn at the Soi Buakhao/Pattaya Tai junction up until early evening on those days. Worth bearing in mind if you are heading to Walking Street from Soi Buakhao. On Tuesday and Friday many of the baht buses going south on Buakhao, forced to turn left, where paying 10 baht for the privilage to go through the Friendship Supermarket parking lot so they could turn around and go west on Pattaya Thai. So don't ring the bell too soon. Not sure if that is still the case. But I don't know what the buses that usually go north on Buakhao do. I try and avoid that area as much as possible on those two days.

bumblebee
For cheap afternoon drinks Buakhao is hard to beat. A great way to kill an hour or so and see how many of ours can be seen strolling and biking by.

bumblebee
Time to finish our stroll along Buakhao. It really is a street full of character and a great location for anyone who wants value for money regarding accommodation and food, along with a fair few LB options. Hopefully it has given some of you, who are not familiar with the area, an idea of what to expect and the location of some of the more popular stop off joints along the way. Let's head for Pattaya Klang/Central Pattaya Road, about 7 or 8 minutes from the market and the end of the soi. That's all folks!
