So Thailand is aworse place to be born than Burma?  Or Iraq?  Or Chad?

That entire map is full of inconsistencies. Most of Africa is a shithole but the map shows most of it as neutral. Better than South America for a start. Ridiculous.

That's Tom the Austrian drag queen who performs as Conchita Wurst. Conchita from the slang term for pussy based on its similarity to a Conch Shell (probably the root word for cunt) & Wurst being Austrian for sausage, the universal euphemism for a cock. A clever amalgamation of contrasting terms ideally suited for her/his role.

This morning on Australian TV an announcer innocently asked: "do you think that's her real name?"

Gawd, obviously no brains required for that position!

According to the right wing in America......which, believe it or not unfortunately makes up around 50% of my country.... Global Warming is a huge conspiracy! Made up of a bunch of those mean old, pesky scientists who want to rip off their home counties and create a New World Order.  or something like that.

The ONE conspiracy I believe in!

From some where else

Margarine kills marriages!

But only in Maine.

From the correlation-doesn't-imply-causation file comes this gem, and nineteen others, from Tyler Vigen: http://www.tylervigen.com/

These are gold - and that correlation os over 0.99. Surely it mist be causal!

In graduate school I remember we had assignment using some data the Faculty had found showing a nice, tight State-level correlation between number of tornadoes and proportion of people living in mobile homes. Worse, the tornadoes were especially prevalent where the mobile homes were single width, rather than double width. One student claimed the assignment as evidence that God, a Republican, hated the poor!post-4762-0-29670000-1399966190_thumb.pn

The future of the internet is at stake

FCC votes to proceed with net neutrality rules

(BBC): http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-27426937

"The controversial proposals have drawn an unprecedented level of

scrutiny to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) and its vote,

which was passed with three commissioners voting in favour and two

against. The meeting of the five commissioners was repeatedly

interrupted by protesters, several of whom were removed from the room."

Had to go to BBC for this. CNN is busy running wall to wall playback

and analysis of phone conversations of an apparently senile basketball

team owner, recorded illegally by his pimp. They also interviewed the pimp live.

So they don't have time left for stories affecting the future of the Internet.

Corporate Control of the Media. As recently as 1983, about fifty companies owned 90% of the U.S. media. Today, 90% of the media is owned by only six companies. This means that 232 media executives control what 277,000,000 U.S. citizens see. Why wouldn’t they want the citizens to see only that ‘news’ and ‘information’ that will best enhance shareholder value, and thus, their own salaries?
