  1. Hi all. I've read many people swap out SIM cards on their phones while in LOS. On my first trip I didn't want to hassle with it. Getting ready for my next trip & definitely want to have a local phone. Is it easy to just get a prepaid phone, load it with minutes, and dump it when you leave. Nothing fancy, just a simple flip brick w/ voice & texting. Where would be the best place to get, MBK or any of the malls? Thanks

  2. Is there a trick to being able to take different girls at different times from the same bar and avoid the whole stink eye, "you butterfly" whenever you go back? Especially at a place like Obbsessions or Cascades with so many stunners in one place. It may sound funny & i know its p4p and all but I still like to think of myself as somewhat of gentleman and want to walk into place and half the ladies automatically think a**hole

  3. To avoid the butterfly label; just bum a different ladyboy from the same bar every day and you'll then be recognised as a Helicopter or Aeroplane. Such a distinguished badge of honour

  8. A very clever and deceptive angle BT but it 's behind one of the restaurants on Walking St, Beach road end-ish. I took a speed boat along the coast this afternoon to nail this one.

  9. Well, I'll have to get out more. I posted a response, thinking I may be helpful, but apparently Rx and others are more widely read than I. Maybe next time I'll think about letting it go through to the 'keeper too. Never mind, "such is life" as Ned Kelly reportedly said.

  10. First off, don't fall into the trap of always going to the same bar(s). Problem solved. Especially in your case where this will just be a two week trip. As I suggested before, spend 4 nights in BKK and 8 nights in Pattaya. Four nights in BKK will let you spend a night at each of the major handful of LB bars. By that time you may be tired of the bar scene, anyway, and will be ready for the open beer bar atmosphere of Pattaya and its much bigger selection of ladyboys. Don't listen to the sycophants who believe only their favorite bar to have a lock on all the beautiful, well-hung, feminine, etc etc. ladyboys. Its just not true for any venue. Treasures are to be found everywhere, young David.

  12. Get an entry level smart phone and make it your dedicated Thai phone. They're $100 - $130 and will enable you to have Line, TF, Badoo, email and a basic camera on you at all times. Tools of the trade my friend. You won't regret it.

  13. Do you think the the Filipina lbs working in the Philippines call centers earn enough to support their families or pay for their makeup, hormones and possibly more feminization procedures they want and save for the future? There are a number of them who may "freelance" either by advertising on a dating site, or do cam work. Until the society in general stop discrimination against lbs and ts so they actually do have good opportunities to get good paying jobs, the issue of supplementing income by going into the p4p scene will exist.

  14. Well, the ladies are correct don't you think? They are in the p4p business and know that most punters will go with multiple ladies. It's far better to be honest than to give them the impression that you will only choose them every time you visit the bar. The grapevine is highly effective in lb bars, so if you "pretend" that you are not a butterfly, the truth will be discovered and it will be much worse experience for you the next time you visit.

  15. What's the point of dumping it when you leave? Just as simple to keep it and even cheaper just to buy a new sim card on your next visit. MBK has a floor of mobile phone shops and the used ones can be very inexpensive.

  16. Yes, you can pick one up in MBK for less than 1000 baht, they'll put the SIM in and get it going. Ask around. Go for the smallest and cheapest one for this purpose.

  17. Ah although I never go up it any more I recall a shop like that near the entrance to Soi Yensabai a couple of years back. Could it be the same place?

  18. I'm with you SP; my drinking days are long gone, but water is fine - I can buy a ladydrink for the lady just the same, and the end result is not affected at all. So I think the point is to not be embarrassed by not drinking; just be relaxed about it all and enjoy.

  19. Call center girls in Thailand with a degree earn 15,000 THB to start. Not much of a career path, and no bargaining power as new girls are graduating every year. Girls without a degree make considerably less.

  20. An educated guess on this one. There is a place in Jomtien, name escapes me which does the same deal. And I believe they have another branch over on, I think it's called New Plaze or something on Second Road oposite sois 7 & 8 and that's where you might find this meal.

  24. Not sure as this qualifies as "unexpectedly cheap" but the 34th floor rooftop bar at the Hilton is awesome. There's a great crossbrezze so always feel cool. It could be problematic during rainy season as some of teh bar is exposed to the elements. I like space. I don't like being crammed into a place like a sardine. The designer of Horizon(s) which I think is the bar's name, not sure, has positioned the tables much further apart than you would expect so there is no claustrophic feel. Hotel lobby is same same lots of extra space which feels good. They even have some sofa chairs where u can snuggle up with a lady(boy). Heineken is 180 baht so needs to be nursed but considering that I've seen Walking Street GoGos with 165 baht Heineken it's pretty good. It is clearly delineated on the bill that tax and 10% surcharge is included. Many of the patrons are probably hotel guests who just sign for the bill. They also have a happy hour between 5PM and 7PM where specialty cocktails such as mojitos and pina coladas are 2 for 290 baht which works out to 145 baht. When you're up there, it's so nice you will probably want a second drink so this is a good value although doesn't quite qualify as unexpectedly cheap. Nice place to watch the sunset. An unexpected surprise that even given my very tight budget, I think is a good value.
