Shock, horror, disbelief!!!!!!!! Contrary to popular opinion, some bars in Pattaya do actually listen to their customers and then act on it. Linda Bar has now reverted back to the old style seating at the front of the bar, because as Yalli and Sonya told me last night, so many regular customers had commented on how they preferred the old style seating. So they have now taken away the new tables and chairs, just as you come in off the street, and replaced them with the old style arrangement. Yipeeee. Now I know many of you mongers, including myself, generally consider Walking Street off limits when out and about. Too many bloody tourists, ffs. But Linda Bar is certainly well worth a visit for a few refreshments late at night. And the reasons: Well, if Yalli, Sonya, Bomi and May aren't reason enough, there are several other new cuties working in there, and the old boilers have for the most part, moved on. Add to that the reasonably priced drinks and barfine, and the no hassle atmosphere, it gets a thumbs up for effort. And of course, with the old seating now back, there is no better place to sit and watch the weirdness of Walking Street with a few friends, while sipping a brewski. Come on lads, Yalli and Sonya are waiting for you, and if you wouldn't like to be the cream in their cracker, then ya need your head examined.

I popped in there tonight and everything was BAU. The only difference I could see was that they now turn on the 'Horny Bar' light behind the bar, apparently Vinnee liked to save electric.

Update on Horny Bar. Laa Mok has posted on PA and LBP that his syndicate has now bought Horny Bar, and will be continuing to run it as a ladyboy bar. The girls presently there will be staying on, which will be a relief for them as I heard they were worried about their future, and there will be 4 new ladyboys starting next week. There will be a party there on Tuesday 27 August to celebrate the change in ownership.

As I posted earlier, these things go in cycles, The doom and gloom sayers of high baht for a protracted time forget that the country's fundamentals also impact the exchange. Thailand's current government is making an economic mess of things, and it appears they will continue to do so for at least 2 more years, and maybe 6 if PT win the next election.

I'm not sure if this was discussed elsewhere, but this whole thing - along with Edward Snowden - pisses me the fuck off. These guys should be leading a ticker-tape parade down Broadway as American Hero's, not facing charges of 35+ years in a prison cell. When the government is revealed to be pissing all over the Constitution (in the case of Snowden and the NSA snooping into the emails of billions of American's without warrant or cause) or committing war crimes (in the case of Manning and some of the atrocities he revealed in our wars in the middle east) the guys who take a stand to share this information with the public should be rewarded, not punished. I've even argued with fellow lefties (no, not "our" Lefty - just other lefties) that somehow buy into this notion that revealing government secrets is a crime, no matter whether that information is being kept secret to avoid citizen outrage or actual national security interest. Just makes me ashamed of our government yet again. Sometimes I wonder if the Righties might have a point when they talk about wanting to reduce government to the point where it can be drowned in a bathtub.

Yea they still do T/C's ! Well I hope so as I just ordered some from the bank yesterday.

OK, fried chicken! Now we're talking. Nothing can come close to my grandmother's fried chicken. She was from east Texas, which is sort of the Issan of the US. Needless to say, she knew how to fry a chicken, even the weird internal bits (just like in Issan!). But, that small market about maybe 3/4 of a km north of the LK Metro area on the west side of Soi Buakhao (I think it is shown in pics 8-10, but I'm not entirely sure) has some fried chicken stands with some of the best chicken I've had. Each one even seems to specialize in different parts of the chicken. I only just recently discovered it when one of my two-night LT LB sweetie-pies took me one evening to one of her favorite noodle stalls further back in the market. I got a bowl of noodles too, but went over to "chicken leg lady" and got a couple of drumsticks. That was a meal that cost a little over 100 baht for the two of us, but was one of the best meals I had that week. That market food stall area is a favorite not only of working girls, but motorbike taxi drivers, store keepers, etc. Needless to say, I became a regular of chicken leg lady! (Nana, is that you? Reincarnated?)

The change for her is good, indeed very very good. I also hope she lasts the course and does not return to the scene, at least with her last group of mates who set her on the wrong path. Joy is a great kid and deserves better - still to this day, I have not seen a better, friendlier service girl in any bar. She really does light up any room with her smile and spirit.

It seems I can order Amex TCs online directly from American Express or from the Post Office for free - you don't need to be an Amex cardholder. But if I pay with debit card, the card provider charges 2% transaction fee. If I use a credit card there's a 3% transaction fee, even with an Amex card. I rang the London American Express office and was told I can buy the TCs with cash at their London branch (in Haymarket SW1). So this is what I'll probably do to avoid the card payment fees. That will save me over £100. It's probably possible to do that at Post Offices too, but you get a slightly lower rate of exchange for US$ TCs. I will get the US $500 TCs, and take some cash in case I need to change smaller amounts towards the end of my trip.

If one is an American Express card holder, I think you get order Amex Travelers checks for free. In Thailand you get s slightly better rate using TCs instead of cash but there is a fee of about 33 baht per check. So get the highest denomination you can. Some Yanks seem to have difficulty obtaining travelers checks in $500 denomination and not sure if they issue them in $1000 denomination. With travelers checks size matters!
