  1. OK, now you have me very curious and intrigued… What exactly does “the best LB service” consist of?
  2. Thanks Pdiddy. I think I enjoyed the first two seasons of Barry but it was pretty hit or miss. Couldn’t bring myself to try the third season. Love love love Ted Lasso. Enjoyed Severance, looking forward to Season 2 I think my favorite series of late is The Boys on prime. Saving the third season to watch slowly as it may be a while before they have the fourth season read. Pretty good action and the super grizzly gore affects our amazing and shocking, which is just what you want.
  3. Super hot, but I kept thinking oh no, oh no, don’t come in the dogs face. And then they went there.
  4. Thanks Pdoggg, will keep that in mind next time I'm heading to Patts. Any suggestions or more comments regarding Koh Samui? Chaweng vs Lamia?
  5. The immediate target for this topic is now actually a week or so stay in March of next year, rather than the original 2 to 3 month plan. That would be possible in winter 2023 but for right now I’m trying to figure out where to stay on a stop over from Tokyo. No, I don’t speak any Japanese other than konnichiwa, sayonara, and a few other basic words. Not a big fan of their cuisine either, too much jellied eel for my taste. I’m a picky/squeamish eater so there you go…
  6. Any particular resorts or places? Looking for something with a beautiful view of the ocean, right on the beach or beach front and relatively swanky
  7. PD, what you think about Chaweng? Just a cursory overview of hotels and resorts shows some of the nicer places are there, would you still recommend Lamai over that?
  8. Yes, I’ll be very interested to get your take on things PDoggg. I was able to get my frequent flyer flights sorted out so I will only need to kill 10 or 11 days instead of the nearly 3 weeks that I was looking at initially. Yup, I’d like to go to either Koh Samui or Krabi. Reason I was thinking of Krabi was simply because it’s less developed. I was thinking about the Ao Nang area which seems to have some P4P activity. Have only spent an hour contemplating the choices, so I’ve got a long roe to hoe before any final decision. I’m not in any hurry to make that decision as half the fun of travel for me is researching destinations and coming up with itineraries. I won’t be leaving Seattle on that trip until March 18 so I’ve got a wee bit of time to sort through all the information I can gleen from all you experienced expats. My Sensei’s.
  9. So it looks like I get to try some of this advice out a bit earlier than I expected. It’s a long story, but I’ve ended up with my next trip to Tokyo booked from March 1 all the way until April 19. That’s about three weeks longer than I actually need or want to be in Tokyo, so I think what I’m gonna do is fly into Tokyo, drop some bags at my hotel for safekeeping, then hop from Tokyo to Bangkok. After a couple of nights in Bangkok I’ll probably go to Krabi for a couple of weeks, then back to BKK for a few more nights before going back to Tokyo. I’ll re-read back through the thread here, if anybody has any other specific places in Krabi or nearby that I should check into that would be awesome. Thanks again!
  10. Great news. Another sign that normality is creeping back into the picture
  11. That music series sounds right up my alley. I’ll have to give it a watch sometime. Just finished Tokyo Vice and after being thrilled with the first few episodes, I ultimately decided it sucks. One of those things where characters just go off the rails in the last few episodes doing dumb things and making decisions and taking actions that aren’t congruent with the characters they established in the earlier episodes. There’s also a lot of controversy now about the original novel and whether the author made up a lot of the incidents he included in the book. I also watched the first season of Severance on Apple TV and really enjoyed it. What’s next? I’m thinking about either Breaking Bad or that Kevin Costner western thingamajig which my sister keeps trying to get me to watch. Not sure about that though as I think I have to get a premium subscription to Paramount plus to be able to watch it? Add to that the fact that the last thing I watched which my sister recommended was Aquaman, and you can understand my reticence
  12. Yes! I think it was my last trip to Thailand, about 10 years ago, and I bumped into a gentleman at the central festival mall food court. I literally bumped into him, turned around to apologize, only to find out it was my buddy John from Seattle! I hadn’t seen him in three or four years at least, long story short he had come to Thailand on a job opportunity which evaporated while he was in the air. He had found work and was hooked up with a local Thai girl from a good family, not part of the scene, but he was pretty miserable. I took him to Famous and a few other bars, can’t remember which, and as it was near the end of my trip and I was flying home out of Bangkok, I offered to put him and his girlfriend up at the fancy hotel I was staying at in Bangkok, the Pier 52 hotel or something like that. Very nice very ritzy place. I knew he would really appreciate it as his life has been pretty frigging rough the last year or two. I specifically remember taking him to Cascades with his Thai girlfriend, and John getting in big trouble with her for feeling the silicone breast of Cindie or one of the other girls that had come up to our seats for a drink. He was simply curious, but it’s sort of a bonehead move with your significant other sitting right there next to you. Ultimately, I told John that if he was stuck over there I would get him a ticket home. He did call me a few months later to take me up on that. I booked the flight for him, told him no it wasn’t a loan, if I couldn’t afford to give it to him as a gift I wouldn’t do it at all. He was very very grateful. The hilarious part of the story (at least in my opinion) was the next morning before I left for the airport. John and the girl were checking out, and John very sheepishly told me that he had shit the bed that night. I think we’ve all been there… he thought he was going to let rip with a hearty fart and ended up sharting the bed and having to call room service to come and change out the sheets. We’ve not stayed in touch much over the last few years as he had moved to California (that’s where he flew home to on my ticket). Last time he was up in Seattle he reached out but our schedules didn’t align. As far as I know, none of my other friends yet know of my proclivities. My wife, now ex-wife, was so extremely passable that none of my friends or family ever “clocked” her as trans. I have revealed to my sister recently that she was trans, as I just don’t want to continue to keep that a secret. To be honest, that was my ex wife’s decision, to keep it secret. She did not want that information out there as she always felt like people would look at her different. Only her closest friends that grew up with her in New York and watched her transition even know, all of her friends that she made here in Seattle and since moving back to New York think she’s a GG. I felt comfortable sharing it with my sister as she can keep a secret pretty well, and since we were no longer married I didn’t want that secret from my sister. I always encouraged my wife to consider “coming out“ as I felt her hiding her transsexuality did a disservice as she could have, and still can, be not only a role model but someone who could change people’s perception of what trans means. don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t “chomping at the bit“ to start sharing that with coworkers and friends, but if she had made the decision to do that I would’ve supported it. I thought it was that important. Happy gay pride month everyone! PS: I always harbored the secret fantasy of being able to tell friends and family “no, I’m not gay, but my wife is.”
  13. I do judge Cruise for his lunatic “religious” beliefs. Scientology is fucking dangerous and yet another of the plethora of reasons why churches should not be given tax-free status. One of my all-time favorite South Park episodes is the one where they keep riffing on the idea that “Tom Cruise is a fudge packer”. You’d have to see it to believe it - it’s hilarious. With that said he has made a couple of good movies over the years, but then again even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Rain Man was good. I’m sure if I dig deep there are other films of his that I’ve enjoyed. I read something the other day about how the film got some sort of standing ovation at Cannes? That, if true, really surprises me. The television ads here in the US showed quick glimpses of hyperbolic review claims, but if you freeze frame and look they were all from unknown critics and weird unknown, probably self published, magazines. I swear one of them said something like “Incredible! Must be seen on the big screen! Chaz Green, MyMom’sBasement.com.” I have a funny feeling I’ll be eating my words if and when I do finally watch it and find that I actually do enjoy it. But I’ll try to resist.
  14. I hated Phuket as well. I don’t think folks are traveling in droves yet, I think we’re still six months to a year away from actually having a full resurgence. Hopefully sooner but I would bet it will be at least six months before the crowds start to return, and when the crowds return the girls will return.
