duke007
Not only that , imagine someone on Holiday who did see something , would they chirp up info knowing that they may be stuck in Thailand as a witness . Ive seen Accidents before and almost everyone at the scene said they see nothing although they admitted afterwards they see everything.. I doubt there would have been any Thai witnesses either when I got hit by a big Pick-Up truck on Pattaya Tai, thankfully the driver let me get up and stagger to the kerbside first before he/she drove off , the good side was having a lovely Nurse from the Corner Bar taking care of me for four days afterwards Quote Link to comment

JaiDee
I understand the police are now planning to take DNA tests of every male on the island. As if the killer wouldn't be long gone by now, or would be on the next ferry the moment they hear that news. Agreed, I don't think the killer of those 2 people will ever be caught. pdogg
The police have arrested a suspect in the murder of two British tourists in Koh Tao and are still hunting for a second suspect who has escaped into Bangkok. Eighth Region Police Command commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen identified the first suspect as Mon. He is the brother of a village headman in Koh Tao. He was arrested after evidence which police collected were examined and proved he was involved, he said. He also said another suspect is also a son of that village headman. But he has already to Bangkok. He said both suspects were captured by CCTV cameras and the police have gathered enough evidence to implicate them in the murders. He said the southern police were coordinating with the metropolitan police to hunt him down, and expected to apprehend him today. The southern police chief also assured the public that there was no arrest of scapegoats in this murder case as it now is a focal attention of the world. He also dismissed any suggestion of local mafias or influential people that could twist the investigation with promise that local influence would pose no obstacle to the police investigation. Instead the police will eliminate all these mafias, he said. Meanwhile a police source said the police are also looking into the cooperation of those who helped to arrange the suspect to escape. They also will be arrested. http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/one-tourist-murder-suspect-now-arrested-another-run/ Quote Link to comment
JaiDee
Now, seriously, Thai police; how hard was THAT?? And, how dumb was that guy not to leave that little speck of an island? His accomplice is on BKK now, a lot harder to be found in a place like that. Probably hiding out in Khlong Toey. Quote Link to comment

The last known photograph of the two British backpackers who were murdered in Thailand emerged on Tuesday as police said they had made a breakthrough in the case. Within hours of the photograph being taken on the Thai island of Koh Tao, 23-year-old Hannah Witheridge, who sits on the far left of the picture holding a cocktail, and 24-year-old David Miller, who is second from right in a blue T-shirt, were murdered by an as yet unidentified gang of at least three “attackers”. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/thailand/11117396/Last-picture-of-British-backpackers-murdered-on-Thai-island.html Quote Link to comment
JaiDee
So sad to think those other three girls went back to England without their buddy......and her family is devastated, of course. The Thai police seem to be moving at a snail's pace on this one; shocking, I know. Quote Link to comment
pdogg
BANGKOK — The son of a powerful local administrator on Koh Tao island initially sought by police has denied any involvement in the murder of two British tourists there two weeks ago. Warot Tuvichian, 22, said at a press conference today that he was nowhere near Koh Tao island when David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, were killed on 15 September. Mr. Warot's lawyer, Attakorn Onart, presented reporters with a still photograph from CCTV footage that showed Mr. Warot at his university and residence in Bangkok on 13-15 September. Mr. Warot also attended classes during that period of time, Mr. Attakorn said. "There are university documents that confirmed his class attendance and examination," the lawyer told reporters. Last week police identified Mr. Warot as a primary suspect, claiming that he fled the island shortly after the bodies of Mr. Miller and Ms. Witheridge were found. The police later retracted their statement and said Mr. Warot was no longer a suspect because he was in Bangkok when the murder took place. Mr. Warot's father, Woraphan Tuvichian, who is a village headman on Koh Tao island, was also considered a person of interest by the police. After questioning, the police cleared Mr. Woraphan of a connection to the murder. Mr. Woraphan previously threatened to press libel charges against media agencies that attempted to link him or any of his family members to the killing of the two Britons. At the press conference today, Mr. Warot's lawyer said news reports have "greatly damaged" his client. "He wasn't unable to attend classes because people kept asking him if he was involved in the murder," Mr. Attakorn said. "So I want to ask for fairness for Mr. Warot." Mr. Attakorn said his client never went into hiding and that police never questioned Mr. Warot about the murder. He added that Mr. Warot is willing to cooperate with police if he is ever summoned for questioning. Mr. Warot then told reporters that he has become a target of hateful comments from people on social media who are convinced he was behind the murder. "I want justice. Right now I am very fearful, and only my close friends understand me," Mr. Warot said. Two weeks after the murder of Mr. Miller and Ms. Witheridge, Thai police have yet to arrest any suspect in the case. Police say that DNA samples collected from more than 100 potential suspects on the island did not match the DNA traces found on Ms. Witheridge's body. Police have given conflicting statements about whether DNA samples of Mr. Warot and his father have been tested. http://www.khaosodenglish.com/detail.php?newsid=1412092524&typecate=06§ion= Quote Link to comment

pdogg
Let's just say I am VERY skeptical of this latest turn of events. Well then how about this one JD A meeting of tourism operators and local residents of Koh Tao in Surat Thani resolved during a meeting Thursday to collect an entrance fee from visiting tourists. They plan to use the fee for setting up a fund to boost security for tourists on the island. The meeting resolved to have the Koh Tao Municipality hold a public hearing on the fee rate. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/Tourists-may-be-required-to-pay-entrance-fee-for-v-30244592.html Quote Link to comment
Jimslim
Let's just say I am VERY skeptical of this latest turn of events. Scapegoats. My thoughts entirely . This whole fiasco would hardly inspire anyone to visit Thailand for the first time . Quote Link to comment
pdogg
Scapegoats. Certainly suspicious. If you were Win, the guy captured in Surathani and you were involved with the murder, wouldn't you take your ass back to Burma instead of leaving yourself open to arrest? Quote Link to comment
Guest JustSumGai
botch, make exuses, onus on tourist, here's your wristband, now pay us to protect you. a NOT MEETING not among tourists of the world has not announced that the most sensible thing to do is to NOT GO TO KOH TAO. Of course, once in Burma you would just blend back in with the home folks, hell he probably never even used his real name on Koh Tao. Very, very sketchy. Quote Link to comment
