There is some evidence he liked boys.

 

Unclear if he was a Top or Bottom.

The way he walked in movies makes it appear that he got rogered the night before.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, the first photo I have removed from my
montage is none other than the Duke himself, who, according to the
source who outed him, was “queer as a two-headed trout.”

 

I first came across the news that Wayne was light in the spurs when I
was staying at a kitschy old out-of-the-way hotel in the Valley
called the Sportsmen’s Lodge. I got to chatting with a long-time
hotel employee who began dishing dirt about some of the famous people
he had come across during his long tenure there. His favorite, he
said, was Bogie who used to tip him with a $50 bill and a Cuban
cigar. His next anecdote threw me for a loop, however.

“John Wayne used to come here all the time,” he recalled. “He was a
pansy, you know.” In a million years, I would have never guessed that
John Wayne, that lovable redneck, was gay. But my source told me
“most of those cowboys were.”

 

“He used to come by in the afternoon with men to go fishing in the
pond and then they’d take a room and he’d say he was in ‘conference’
and that he shouldn’t be disturbed. We all knew what that meant and
one of the chambermaids told us that she once caught him getting a
blowjob from a guy. But unlike some of the other stars who came by
with men, Wayne didn’t like them too young. His friends were usually
in their twenties or even older, but none of them were famous, at
least not the ones he would rent a room with.”

This is interesting, I stayed here twice in the 80s, first time for business that actually involved meeting Wayne's 2 sons, one was an actor & I think the other took care of dad's estate. The next time I stayed there was on vacation a few years later because the hotel was just down the street from one of the better tg bars I've ever seen in the west: The Queen Mary Show Lounge, Within a short walk as I recall.

I went to The Queen Mary several times over a couple of trips. I don't remember if I actually went to the "show lounge" , well I must have, at least the first time. The back bar was where the action was, the lounge was for the tourists & hen parties. The back bar was full of beautiful girls with time on their hands, LA definitely attracted the glamorous ones: Latinas, all sorts of Asians, black queens & drop dead gorgeous Caucasians ... Really stunning creatures. This was the beginning of the Video Era & each time there I would recognize some well known porn tg queens & meet some beautiful locals who probably became the porn queens of the late 80s or 90s if they didn't catch a rich guy who would keep them.

The back bar was all about business in the end, there was partying & coke, but the point was to make money. Lots of guys that came by seemed to have big money by the rush of girls that greeted them, the QM back bar was where I first realized that if I just hung around & partied till closing time I had some bargaining power. You didn't want to fuck with the tough street queens though. You couldn't believe the caliber of some of the girls left at the end of a slow night, some of whom I knew their names right away from movies or magazines. It was also the first place that my interest in the Asian girls started, man, there were so many of them & they were really hot... A lot of filipinas, but it was LA, there were all sorts looking for their big break. Me, I was young & it seemed like I found the Promised Land.

But as the 80s ended my circumstances changed & I didn't get to return. I heard the local pols told the owner to clean up his act & a lot of the drugs & action got toned down. The QM wasn't open until the mid 60s so I think doubtful that the Duke visited from the Lodge then if these interesting tales are true.

He was younger in that photo. Probably from the early 1950s. He played football at USC when he was in college, so he was naturally physically fit.

When it came to rumors of a cowboy actor being gay, they were strongest about Randolph Scott who lived with and was alleged to have had a relationship with Cary Grant.

Also, if you guys have not seen Repo Man, it is a fucking totally awesome film. One of my all time favorites.
