Snick
Why are manhole/sewer covers round? So microsoft can have interview questions. 1) They are not all round, there are square ones. 2) its easier to drill a round hole 3) its easier to roll the manhole cover, which is heavy take your pick. Snick
Snick, if you type into Google "124000 prophets", there are over 29,000 sites mentioned. The first page gives plenty of evidence supporting this number of Islamic prophets. It looks like the interpreation / translation of the arabic words for prophet and messenger. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophets_and_messengers_in_Islam I stick by my answer that there are 25 named prophets in the Islam. SiamSam
Why are manhole/sewer covers round? It is the only geometrical shape that cannot be dropped, sink, or be manoeuvred into the hole. It took cities centuries to figure this out. Go figure. Quote Link to comment
Hefe
So the Buddha walks into a bar. What did he order? Quote Link to comment
williethepimp
Isn't Stone Age Death Cult the answer to JaiDee's previous question? Ha,yes,it would make a great name for a band..... So the Buddha walks into a bar. What did he order? make me one with everything? Quote Link to comment
pacman
It looks like the interpreation / translation of the arabic words for prophet and messenger. I stick by my answer that there are 25 named prophets in the Islam. That would make more sense, I can't imagine how they could keep track of 124,000 prophets. All the same, in many of the descriptions, they refer to that many prophets so I hold that the question was valid. Call it a draw... Here's another religious question - which holy book contains the First Testament in its entirety almost word for word? Quote Link to comment
Hefe
make me one with everything? You got it Quote Link to comment
williethepimp
I believe he paid with a 1000 baht note, but got nothing back from the barkeep. The buddha questioned this, asking 'Change?' What did the barkeep reply? haha....i wont spoil it for anyone else.....i have heard it as a buddhist monk buying a hot dog in New York.......make me one with everything.....when enquiring where was his change from a $10 bill the vendor replies ................................. williethepimp
Anybody? I was very surprised when I learnt this. There aren't many holy books, someone care to take a guess? I dont understand the question Pacman...the First testament in its entirety.......?whose First testament?......... anyway,i'll guess at the Book of Mormon Quote Link to comment
pacman
Sorry Willie, I didn't think I was being obtuse. The Christian Bible consists of the First & Second Testament, the old & the new in other words. The holy book I am referring to includes the First of these two testaments. And it isn't a Christian religion! That's what I found interesting. Quote Link to comment
Snick
The Torah ? In which case, its usually referred to as the 'Old Testament' not the First Testament. Quote Link to comment
pacman
The Torah ? Not the Torah, the other one. In which case, its usually referred to as the 'Old Testament' not the First Testament. Good point. That may explain the confusion, my apologies. BTW Snick, does the Torah contain the Old Testament? I hadn't considered that possibility. Quote Link to comment
Snick
The Torah IS The Old Testament, The Christian Bible is the Jewish Torah + The New Stuff. Quote Link to comment
pacman
Ignorance is bliss. To answer my original question, the holy book that contains the Old Testament almost word for word is the Koran. So we have the Old Testament in the Bible, the Torah & the Koran. Christian, Jew & Muslim all reading the same stories. Apart from Snick, is this widely known or am I the *special* one? Quote Link to comment
Snick
you are special ;) All 3 religions are often referred to as 'People of the Book' since they all recognize the same God and the Old Testament, the difference is that Muslims think Mohammed is the final Prophet and the Christians think Jesus is the son of God (that and they can eat pork). JaiDee
Ahhhh, you guys wanna get into that lovely topic of religion, eh?? Ok, where do the Mormons say the Garden of Eden is? Quote Link to comment
