I'm all in favor of LB Conversion therapy, I think more Thai boys should be converted to LB.

As RX said its a shadow of its former self, but so is all of Patpong these days. Its marginally better on weekends, I should take another look I don't think I've been in 2 months.

I'm over Phuket. The sense of constantly being ripped off just destroys any fun for me. You can't go from Beach A to beach B without paying 800+ baht, the hotels want to charge ridiculous joiner fees and even when you do pay them they still don't allow your guest to use the facilities have breakfast etc.. One time I checked in with a friend, who was going to stay the week, and in the evening security still tried to collect a joiner and refused to give me his name when I compained. All the shops are over priced, unless you go to Tesco...and fuck it, I got Tesco here. And the talent on Bangla is wanting...and a rip off. One friend told me on his last trip the girl tried to get TWO bar fines out of him, one for mamasan and one for bar. He walked away. Too many better options in Thailand to endure a trip to Phuket again. Only nice thing I can say about it, is it acts as kind of a magnet for the scummiest Thais (and thats nice if you go elsewhere).

I think the outlook for us is getting better, the Thai economy is in the shitter, the Bahts getting weaker,tourism is down and Pattaya's big gamble on Russian Tourism is crashing. I think mongers and especially LB mongers are the best market Thailand's got left. And if the generals have half a brain (which admittedly is a big IF), they won't crack down on Isaan's biggest source of income....sending their boy and girls to Pattaya. ps. and If Philippines is such a great LB destination, then why are so many PI LB coming to Bangkok and Pattaya ?

As the ancient Thai Philosopher once said "Same Same But Different" There have always been tourist ripoffs, I was once given a giant bill at KC3. I carefully separated the recipes into two piles and paid one pile. They said nothing. Another time I was at Super Pussy on Patpong at they tried charging us 1000 Baht entertainment charge, AFTER telling me there was no cover. I called Bullshit, but ended up paying 200 Baht per head to avoid trouble. Paying a girl in advance is always a bad idea, they get to the room and refuse to perform. Its an age old trick. The internet and Social media make it easier for scams to get publicized, but they have always been there. I really haven't seen much change, except drink prices in Nana went up (but it does look like watering down drinks and using fake booze has decreased ).

if this law passes, and its a big if, it would be a disaster. Fortunately it t has been proposed before and killed off by sane heads. The exceptions would be BOI companies and Amity treaty companies; and possibly ASEAN companies. Others, especially Japanese, would be insane to open new companies and would probably be forced to sell off their existing companies rather than continue to put up the money but not have control.

Interesting article, but there is a huge difference between now and 1997. In 1997 the Thai Baht was pegged to US Dollar and international borrowing was USA denominated. When the Thai's could not support the Baht it was like the titanic hitting the iceberg, the economy crashed overnight. Today the Baht is not pegged and most Bonds are denominated in Baht, so while the economy does suck its not going to crash over night its just going to slow down ( maybe, a lot ). Thailand might have just found a bit of luck though, Japan has just announced 'expansionary measures' including printing money and investing their huge pension portfolio in domestic and foreign stocks. That Japanese money could easily find its way to Thailand (since the two biggest Asian economies China and S Korea dislike the Japanese). Snick's prediction , sub par growth in the 1% to 3% range. With a recession possible if there are any 'shocks'. Some kind of government action for personal debt relief, lots of a mega-projects to try and help economy (and help corruption). Continuing weakness in Baht especially compared to USD, and a strong possibility of a stock market 'correction' (i.e. sudden 10% drop). But like most forecasts, I could be wrong and its real hard to know WHEN this could happen, the stock market could tank next week or in 2 years. Crisis always take longer to develop then you think and then strike faster. PS I'd probably be a buyer after a 15% drop, I did that last time it happened and made some good $$$
