  1. A naked British man on a rampage attacked an Australian tourist with a beer bottle in the Tahitian Queen Agogo until his face was covered in blood yesterday in Pattaya. At 10.30pm, officers at Pattaya City Police Station were informed that a foreigner was assaulted and injured at the Tahitian Queen Agogo bar on Pattaya Beach Road in Nong Prue subdistrict in Bang Lamung district. Police rushed to the scene to investigate with rescue workers from Pattaya’s Sawang Boriboon Thammasatham Foundation. At the scene, a crowd of onlookers huddled around 77 year old Josef Slezak of Australian nationality, who had a bust left eyebrow and a face full of blood after being hit with a glass bottle by the naked Englishman. Rescue workers provided first aid before transporting him to the hospital for treatment. Police detained the perpetrator, a stark naked British man, and took him to the police station for interrogation. https://thethaiger.com/news/pattaya/naked-brit-smashes-beer-bottle-over-elderly-australian-tourists-head-in-pattaya
  2. Next stop in the tour Dublin! Good to see that Miami Steve (Silvio from the Sopranos) is still in the E Street Band. Michelle on tambourine.
  3. The Thai Democrat party has called for the legalization of sex toys. Reasons include increased tax revenues, safety for those who use these various toys, and as a way to reduce sex crimes.
  4. A closely watched music copyright trial is set to begin Monday in federal court in Manhattan, where a jury will decide a lawsuit accusing Ed Sheeran of copying his Grammy-winning ballad “Thinking Out Loud” from Marvin Gaye’s soul classic “Let’s Get It On.” Sheeran is expected to testify at the trial, which is getting underway less than two weeks before he plans to release a new album and begin an extensive North American stadium tour. The case, originally filed in 2017, has been delayed multiple times. The music industry is keenly interested in the outcome. Over the last decade, the business has been rocked by a series of infringement suits that have involved questions of just how much or how little of the work of pop songwriters can be protected by copyright, and how vulnerable they are to legal challenges. The trend began in 2015 when a jury found that Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, in their hit “Blurred Lines,” had infringed on the copyright of another Gaye tune, “Got to Give It Up,” and they were ordered to pay more than $5 million in damages. The case shocked many legal experts — and musicians — who believed that Thicke and Williams were being penalized for using basic musical building blocks, like harmonies and rhythmic patterns, that had long been considered part of the public domain. In 2020, an appeals court decision affirming Led Zeppelin’s victory over a copyright challenge to its song “Stairway to Heaven” seemed to steer case law back to more familiar territory. But plaintiffs are free to seek relief if they feel their rights have been infringed, and jury trials over music copyright can be especially unpredictable. Here is a guide to what to expect during the trial. What do the songs sound like? The lawsuit against Sheeran involves only the underlying musical composition of the two songs — their melodies, chords and lyrics — and not the specific recordings. Who are the plaintiffs? While the “Blurred Lines” suit was filed by Gaye’s family, the plaintiffs in this case are heirs of Ed Townsend, a songwriter and producer who collaborated with Gaye on his album “Let’s Get It On,” and who shares writing credit with Gaye on the title track. (Townsend, who died in 2003, was the primary songwriter of “Let’s Get It On,” earning two-thirds of the royalties from it.) Why has it taken so long to come to trial? The case was filed in 2017 by Townsend’s daughter, Kathryn Townsend Griffin; his sister, Helen McDonald; and the estate of his former wife, Cherrigale Townsend. Since then there have been a series of delays. In 2019, the judge overseeing the case, Louis L. Stanton, put the trial on hold pending an appeal in the “Stairway to Heaven” case, which involved similar questions about what aspects of a song were properly protected by copyright. Just after that appeal was resolved, in March 2020, the coronavirus pandemic was growing serious, forcing another postponement of the “Thinking Out Loud” case. For much of the last year, lawyers for the two sides have been sparring in pretrial paperwork over what evidence can be presented at trial. What parts of the songs are in dispute? A quirk of the law restricts which aspects of “Let’s Get It On” (1973) are under copyright. For many songs made before 1978, only the contents of the sheet music submitted to the Copyright Office (known as the “deposit copy”) are protected. With “Let’s Get It On,” that notation was skeletal: just chords, lyrics and a vocal melody. Other key aspects of the song, like its bass line and signature opening guitar riff, were absent. That means that the lawsuit primarily comes down to the chord progressions of the two songs, which are nearly — but not entirely — identical. Both songs are based on a sequence of four chords in an ascending pattern, but on “Thinking Out Loud” the second chord in the progression is slightly different from the one used in “Let’s Get It On.” (A musicologist retained by the plaintiffs acknowledged the difference in an analysis submitted to the court, but called the two chords “virtually interchangeable.”) The case may hinge on just how distinctive this chord progression is. Sheeran’s lawyers argue that the chords are generic building blocks and are fair game for any musician. In filings with the court, Sheeran’s musicologist notes more than a dozen songs, including hits like the Seekers’ “Georgy Girl” and Donovan’s “Hurdy Gurdy Man,” used the same basic sequence before “Let’s Get It On.” A guitar textbook submitted in evidence cites it as a standard progression that can be used by any musician to write a song. The plaintiffs argue that even if the chords are public domain, the specific way they were used in “Let’s Get It On,” including the song’s syncopated rhythmic pattern, is original enough in its “selection and arrangement” of those elements to be protected by copyright. What are the stakes? After the “Blurred Lines” verdict, musicians and legal scholars expressed concerns that the case had muddied the commonly understood rules about what aspects of music could be owned by an individual songwriter, and what were free for any musician to use. There was an uptick in music copyright claims, and some songwriters reported second-guessing themselves in the studio to make sure their compositions were distinct. The Led Zeppelin case changed that trajectory, with its ruling that some elements of creative works were so commonplace that only “virtually identical” versions infringed on copyright. Some experts say they are worried that if Sheeran loses, further disruption could ensue. “If in this case an extremely common chord progression, set to a basic harmonic rhythm, is privatized,” said Jennifer Jenkins, a law professor at Duke who specializes in music copyright, “then we are going in reverse, and we are removing essential ingredients from every songwriter’s tool kit.” Townsend’s heirs say they are protecting his work against another song that stole its musical “heart.” What other cases involve these two songs? The case, known as Griffin v. Sheeran, is one of three in the Southern District of New York involving accusations of copyright infringement over “Thinking Out Loud” and “Let’s Get It On.” The two others were filed by Structured Asset Sales, a company that owns an 11.11 percent interest in “Let’s Get It On,” having purchased a share of rights that was owned by one of Townsend’s sons. Structured Assets Sales is owned by David Pullman, a businessman best known for creating the so-called Bowie bonds for David Bowie in the 1990s. Of those two cases, one may be headed for a separate trial, while the other has been stayed pending a resolution of the first. Has Sheeran faced copyright cases before? Yes. In 2016, the two songwriters of “Amazing,” which was performed by Matt Cardle, a winner of the British TV competition “The X Factor,” sued Sheeran, saying he copied aspects of their song for his hit “Photograph.” The case was settled a year later, and the writers of “Amazing” were added to the credits of “Photograph.” Last year, Sheeran successfully defended himself at trial in Britain in an infringement case involving another of his hits, “Shape of You.” Afterward, Sheeran spoke in personal terms about the toll of defending against such accusations, and said that the flood of recent cases was “really damaging to the songwriting industry.” “There’s only so many notes and very few chords used in pop music,” Sheeran said, in a video posted to Instagram. “Coincidence is bound to happen if 60,000 are being released every day on Spotify.” He added, “This really does have to end.”
  5. A 61-year-old Thai man is in serious condition after he was allegedly pushed by a Turkish man upset about having water poured on him during Songkran in Pattaya. The Pattaya Police Chief Colonel Sompong Poethi told the Pattaya News that the incident took place on the Pattaya Walking Street on April 18th ‘Wan Lai’ at about 3:00 A.M. The incident went viral after the social media page Pattaya Watchdog posted the video from the incident seen here. The injured Thai man, identified only as Mr. Chadayut, 61, from Songkhla, who is a parking attendant staffer at a Walking Street restaurant nearby, now has a severe head injury at a local hospital with only a 30 percent chance of recovery according to Col. Sompong. Mr. Chadayut is well known on Walking Street and has been a fixture in the area for some time, stated a witness, Mr. Tam. The cause of the incident is because the injured man poured a small bucket of water onto a Turkish man, identified as Mustafa A., 28, before he appeared to headbutt and shove Chadayut according to CCTV footage causing him to fall to the ground in front of many shocked bystanders. Col. Sompong stated that the Turkish man might not understand Thai Songkran culture and the meaning of being doused with water as he was angry. Critics on social media, however, say this is impossible as Mustafa was shirtless and dressed for water play and the evening of the incident Walking Street was a certified water zone with thousands of people playing with water and engaged in water battles in a tourist bar zone. Indeed, only a few dozen feet from the incident were stages set up in front of Walking Street bars with heavy crowds playing with water and spraying the crowd with hoses while DJ’s spun music. Some witnesses also claimed Mustafa had been playing with water himself earlier so any excuses that he didn’t know what the meaning of being doused with water was were invalid, according to them. Mustafa, who has lived in Pattaya for one year, was arrested after the incident. He is facing charges of attacking others causing serious injury according to Col. Sompong. Witnesses also reportedly told police, according to Sompong, that during the days of Songkran, the Turkish man has caused many troubles. Mustafa allegedly hit a French couple with a bottle which Pattaya police said they would also look into. He also allegedly got into a conflict with a cannabis shop on Walking Street, causing damage to the venue which will lead to legal action, according to Pattaya Police. They stressed, however, that these incidents were still under review as of press time to determine the exact timeline of events. https://thepattayanews.com/2023/04/22/61-year-old-thai-man-in-coma-after-being-allegedly-pushed-by-young-turkish-man-on-walking-street-during-pattaya-songkran/
  6. My opinion is that it is not a coincidence but not necessarily nefarious either. One reasonable hypothesis is the 2nd jumper saw the original jump and it gave him the courage or motivation to jump.
  7. Theories Gentlemen? A 52-year-old Belgian man and an 81-year-old French man died by suicide by plunging from a condominium in Pattaya. The two separate accidents coincidentally happened at the same condo. Pattaya Police and Sawang Boriboon rescuers rushed to a luxury condominium in Pattaya at 04:30 AM today, April 20th, after receiving a report that a foreigner had jumped from the condo. At the scene, the authorities discovered the victim, identified for his family’s privacy only as Mr. Kris, 52, lying unresponsive on the condo’s ground floor. The victim of Belgian nationality suffered serious bodily injuries and was pronounced dead at the site. His body was transferred to the Police Hospital for an autopsy. Police examined the incident scene and found that the victim had fallen through the roof of the condo’s parking lot. The officers then interviewed Mr. Sombat Sarasamrong, a Thai 55-year-old security guard who works for the condo and witnessed the incident. He said the victim attempted to take his own life twice by jumping from the second floor of the condo. He first hit the ground without sustaining any injuries, and then jumped from the condo again, running away from Mr. Sombat who tried to help, and ultimately succeeded in ending his life. The man’s caretaker Ms. Chananchida Changwatdee, 45, disclosed to police that the victim had many congenital diseases and had been threatening to take his life for some time. The authorities believed that the victim took his own life as there were no signs of struggle or fighting at the scene. In a similar case, an 81-year-old French man jumped from the same condo in Pattaya at a different time and passed away. The victim, Mr. Perrin, was found dead beside the condominium also by Mr. Sombat Sarasamrong, the same Thai 55-year-old security guard who found Mr. Kris. He was shirtless and wore only black shorts. The victim suffered many fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Sawang Boriboon rescuers. Pattaya Police responded to the incident and searched the victim’s room on the third floor and found his medicines on the table. The victim had many congenital diseases and just went to a hospital yesterday, according to his caretaker Mrs. Donruedee Fletuch, 46. Mr. Sombat, the security guard, told police that condo residents reported to him that the victim had plunged from the eighth floor and hit the ground behind the condo. The victim’s body was transferred to Police Hospital for an autopsy. https://thepattayanews.com/2023/04/20/belgian-and-french-men-plunge-from-same-pattaya-condo-in-separate-incidents-and-pass-away/
  8. The area east of Sukhumvit in Pattaya which realtors refer to as East Pattaya is known colloquially as the Darkside. Years ago, maybe 20-25-30 years, when the power grid was more 3rd world, there were frequent power outages in that area so the Star Wars' term Darkside was what farang called that part of town. Probably the majority of guys on Pattaya forums have never even once been to the Darkside as it's not easy to get around there without a motorbike. There is no baht bus service there so it's cars, bikes, and Bolt. There's a couple of bars over there where a band I like sometimes plays. Also the biggest Irish Bar in Thailand is on the Darkside.
  9. I think guys are reluctant to post prices whether high or low because some keyboard warrior will get his jollies by attacking the guy either way. But I will tell you the prices for sex at Bar De Le Poste, a gentleman's club on Soi Lengkee. I was showing a rookie friend the joint and the girl quoted him 700 baht for a shortime BJ or 1000 baht for short time intercourse. I don't know what he paid for the room probably 300-500 and forget what beers and lady drinks cost. As I recall there is a sign on the wall that listed the lady drink prices; I think it was 140 baht. But when you buy a drink there the girl takes off her top. Actually she wound up taking of her bottoms too and my buddy brought her to a short time room. One key takeaway is don't ask how much the bar fine is if going to a bar that has onsite rooms. Instead ask how much is the cost for the room. The cost for the room is negligible; maybe a change of sheets. If the most popular girls are gone for 45 minutes of boom boom it's no big deal. But a bar doesn't want the prettiest girls away from the bar especially if they are on salary. Personally, I don't go out to ladyboy bars much; occasionally Emmy's or Delirious. More often I go to music bars without hostesses. It's not easy to find a Leo for less than 65 baht and they charge a premium for San Mig Zero or Heineken Zero even though they are all about the same price at 7/11. Sometimes I see bands at the Booze Lounge on the Darkside where the waitresses are available and lady drinks are only 100 baht but it's an expat bar where guys are more price conscious than in Central Pattaya.
  10. Hot stuff! Back in the day, there was a cheap hotel where ladyboys stayed on Walking Street where they would bring their tricks back to. Might have been P72 but my memory fails me.
  11. Actually he wrote an unreleased song titled Money Blues. He doesn't mention twerking in it as the word didn't exist back then. Otherwise I'm sure he would have. Maybe I should ask an AI program to write a Dylan style tune about money and twerking. Money Blues by Bob Dylan Sittin' here thinkin' Where does the money go Sittin' here thinkin' Where does the money go Well, I give it to my woman She ain't got it no more Went out last night Bought two eggs and a slice of ham Went out last night Bought two eggs and a slice of ham Bill came to three dollars and ten cents And I didn't even get no jam Man came around Askin' for the rent Man came around Askin' for the rent Well, I looked into the drawer But the money's all been spent Well, well Ain't got no bank account Went down to start one But I didn't have the right amount Everything's inflated Like a tire on a car Everything's inflated Like a tire on a car Well, the man came and took my Chevy back I'm glad I hid my old guitar Come to me, mama Ease my money crisis now Come to me, mama Ease my money crisis now I need something to support me.
  12. Just saw Blackpink Oreo cookies at the supermarket today with pink cream inside. I found a long version of her solo song from Coachella. Below is a video and lyrics. Cmon, who would you rather see dance on stage, an old fogey like Mick or a hot babe like Lisa? It's the end of the month and the weekend I'ma spend this check, everything on me, yeah I'ma tip myself, I'ma spend it on myself I'ma drop it like it's pouring, I'ma pour it on myself Check, check, checkㅤ Check that money making bank account number (yikes) That's that shit that's never getting bounced on ya Bitch, I do the money dance, I just made a hundred bands When the store says "Sign for it, " I'ma leave my autograph Dollar bills, dollar bills Watch it falling for me, I love the way that feels Dollar bills, dollar bills Keep on falling for me, I love the way it feels I came here to drop some money, dropping all my money Drop some money, all this bread so yummy, yeah Twerking, twerking when I buy the things I like Dollar, dollars dropping on my ass tonight Everyone silent, listen to my money talk Spend how I like it Yeah, everyone know what I mean, mean When they see green, when they see green, that mean go Give me what the hell I want Give me what the hell I want Check that money making bank account number (yikes) That's that shit that's never getting bounced on ya Bitch, I do the money dance, I just made a hundred bands When the store says "Sign for it, " I'ma leave my autograph Dollar bills, dollar bills Watch it falling for me, I love the way that feels Dollar bills, dollar bills Keep on falling for me, I love the way it feels I came here to drop some money, dropping all my money Drop some money, all this bread so yummy, yeah Twerking, twerking when I buy the things I like Dollar, dollars, dropping on my ass tonight Drop some money, dropping all my money Drop some money, all this bread so yummy, yeah Drop some money, dropping all my money Drop some money, all this bread so yummy, yeah My money moves, money, I choose Celine, my shoes, walking on you My money rules My money moves, money, I choose Watch how my Wons and Yens and Dollars be dropping on you, you, you Dun, da, la, la, dun-dun, dun, da-la-la, dun-dun Dun, da, la, la, dun-dun, dropping on you Dun, da, la, la, dun-dun, dun, da-la-la, dun-dun Dun, da, la, la, dun-dun, dropping on you
  13. Pattaya shuts down today. No Bell Bus service as Pattaya water play reaches a crescendo.
  14. Lisa from Buri Ram did a solo number at Coachella where she was pole dancing. If she had somehow flunked out of KPOP training would she be performing at Soi Cowboy? Would she be hanging with The Sith?
  15. Nice to see actual prices since guys always seem reluctant to post prices. Somewhat unclear what the drink prices refer to. If we are talking about 80-120 that seems high for beer bars as I don't recall beer in the 100-120 baht range. In the gogos (except for happy hours or really shitty draft beer which I often order as a cover charge and only drink half) the price would be more than 120 baht except for KRU with their 99 baht beer. They might be referring to I Bar on Walking Street and not be talking about ladyboy bars since a capital i looks quite a bit like a small l.

  17. Hard to escape from Songkran anywhere in the Pattaya area. Here is Songkran in Jomtien:
  18. No love for this schedule. I wondering what everyone thinks, even if you have no interest in flying to Clark, what is your ideal time for arriving at your hotel after 1) a short flight and 2) a long flight? My guess is that many of you would like a noon flight out of Bangkok which would get you to your Angeles City hotel around 6PM giving you time to SSS and go out to find your evening's conquest. Personally as a late riser I detest disrupting my sleep schedule to catch a flight or wake up for the 6:30 AM Super Bowl. But then again, I'm not worried about maximizing every night on a short vacation.
  19. Soi Cowboy and Soi Nana. In Bangkok, Songkran is only three days long from the 13th to the 15th.
  20. This was filmed on the 14th on Day 2 of Songkran. The really wild day when the whole city shuts down is the 19th.
  21. Jomtien Beach Road Soi 6 has a reputation for naughty massage. Also just a little bit down the hill on Thepprasit Road are two massage shops that seem to have ladyboys. Probably the naughtiest massage sare found in the massage shops in the Jomtien Complex area. These are gay massages but there might be some twinks that interest you depending how far out you are on the gay spectrum. Lastly, although not a massage shop, I'm sure the ladyboys at Emmy's Bar on Jomtien Beach Road Soi 3 would be edgy enough for you. Have fun!
  22. Soi 7 seems slightly calmer than Soi 6. This was filmed on the 13th,the first official day of Songkran but unofficially water play started on the 11th and will continue until the 19th.
