London and most of South East has now been moved up from Tier 3 to Tier 4. No travel abroad allowed. It will be reviewed on 31 December, so uncertain whether I can travel, but looking unlikely. Still I should get a refund if travel ban continues into New Year.

There will be a new lockdown in Wales from 28 December too, and Scottish Government is also considering another lockdown after Xmas. I expect England is likely to impose a new lockdown too after Boxing Day or in the New Year as cases are rising steeply. Might put paid to my Cuba trip in the New Year.

The UK Government is mobilising Royal Navy Warships to deal with French fishing boats if there is no agreement about fishing access after Brexit. We don't have the military resources to go to war with Sweden too!

I'm red/green colour blind and have difficulty sometimes in differentiating between some Thai banknotes, especially in low lighting. I don't understand why Governments make their different value bank notes so similar. Aren't US notes like that too? At least the UK sterling £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes are different sizes and different designs and colours so it's easy to see which is which.

In the past I have not sent money to lbs from UK. But this is different. A real crisis. I will also admit to having sent money to help out in these difficult times, even if some might think I'm a 'mug' - I would have thought too that in the past. But what is a relatively small amount for us can mean a Thai can eat and pay rent. I hope things will improve and I won't feel the need to help out, but I will while I can. And I will be saving by not going to los this coming January. What's the point of sticking money in a virtually zero interest savings account (falling in value in real terms) when 40% will be taken in death duties when I die?
