Over the last couple years I have gone almost exclusively to Thaifriendly and Pinalove. I'll only hit a bar if a friend drags me there and only browse coconut bar the way I browse porn sites. Even my visits to LBR --to see if my brethren have discovered a new must-see--or reported on a 'whatever-happened-to' with an old fave--have become so rare i might should apologize to those few who might have wondered what became of me. lol. As for TF--what the girls say in their profiles is virtually meaningless. Unless they are adamant about 'Not here for fun and hate perverts!' you can safely assume they wouldn't say no to participating in a bit of frivolity with a respectful gent --especially if it's augmented by a little extra income. As the estimable Mr. Duke says, if the TF girl works a bar and asks to meet there, and if you then decide to take her away--then the proper thing to do is pay her barfine. Although I find most obvious bargirls don't mind coming straight to your room. But there is no one rule covers all here. One generally true rule is the distinction between TF and PL. In my experience, I'd say the vast majority of TF ladyboys are working girls and being bluntly mercenary is to be expected, whereas on PL, almost none work bars (there being so few lb bars in PH) and although almost all fill the above bill of being interested in frivolity and cash, most are seeking 'something more', so I find it best to make it very clear that 'something more' isn't on the agenda and if they still want to meet--and they almost always do--you'll find yourself with a somewhat less feminine but considerably less mercenary and almost certainly more horny companion.

I've stayed in 3 of the rooms and for the money they're fine. Have hot pots now too, tho ya might have to ask for a coffee cup or hit the shop next door for one. Next soi over has TT exchange, and Simple Simon, which has some pretty good food and portions. The Sunday dinner lamb shank was such a plateful, 285 baht I think, that I wondered if I would be able to finish it. Also has some Thai and Chinese food. The view from the balconies is nice, enjoy the street life and see a bit of the water and beach, good fast internet too. Very comfy digs all around and as BB says a bar with as many as 6 or 7 ladyboys at some times. Always a few about, even in the afternoon. If absolute quiet is your thing the 550 baht room is on floor 3 i think it was, and at the rear. Personally I enjoyed occasional bell ringing and cheers from a couple bars across the street. I think it's a great place to chill or venture out from and I'd go have a smoke and some coffee at the beach early morning or at dusk.

it takes me a while to embrace technology. Have used Thai friendly before with mixed results. There is something to be said about going to a bar and being able to have a chat and see if there is any type of chemistry. Even that isnt 100% foolproof. As long as the barfine isnt too crazy, i dont mind (very much) paying a BF. its when I hear the BFs creeping up and becoming rather extortionant is when i object. When these bars come out with crazy Bfs what the heck do they think is going to happen????

The fantasy is most certainly different from the reality. I stayed many times at La Bamba and believe me they don't come knocking at your door. Even in the days when I was "available" as a customer, there were no late knocks or cries outside the door of "I horny, can I come in" Once the bar has closed for the night they seem more intent in going back to their room to sleep, or play on their phones until daylight, which is generally when they sleep.

In recent threads, Sustra asked about staying above Katty Bar and La Bamba. I reckon spending a holiday above a ladyboy bar has its pros and cons. The fantasy is that you never know who is going to knock on your door and fuck you silly. But it seems that you lose a certain amount of privacy with the ladyboys seeing who you bring back home. Think that Katty Bar and Baby Boom rent out rooms above the bar. And La Bamba used to rent rooms out. Any others? Did you guys like the experience or did you feel inhibited bringing outside ladyboys home.

Diesel is especially noxious. I live close to the Ports of Long Beach/LA. Unfortunately, the onshore prevailing winds blow all the fucking diesel exhaust from the trucks, tankers, and trains right over the city. Gag. But, great strides have actually been made in mitigating much of the particulate matter from all those sources. Though, we still get a lovely black gritty dust accumulating in our homes, not to mention lungs. I have been thinking about where I will retire. Was considering Thailand, but it would have to be someplace much cleaner and cooler than BKK or Pattaya. Perhaps Chiang Mai or Chiang Raí, up in the mountains.

Keep in mind this law comes into force in the coming days, not sure how it may affect a guesthouse.

I don't think the government has any viable extremely short term options. Long term, things such as catalytic converters, assuming they're not currently in use, will mitigate the problem as Stro says. I would never stay long time in the rooms above a ladyboy bar, too much hassle imho. However, as Jim suggests a 'fantasy' could be in order. For example, a 1 night stay at La Bamba with say the 4 ladyboy inhabitants entering your room in the early hours with hard-ons and all eager to bang you silly could be a temptation to some

I've never done it nor ever will, it's not a good idea. I know a few guys who have and there's always been problems, its ok for a bit until you bring back someone they don't like or had previous run-ins with The fantasy of them knocking at your door in the wee small hours with a hard-on is better kept for the cold dark nights at home
