pdogg
Islamist militants seized a foreign-operated gas field in Algeria early Wednesday and took at least 20 foreign hostages according to an Algerian government official and the country’s state-run news agency, in what the attackers called a retaliation for the French-led military intervention in neighboring Mali. The Algerian agency said at least at least two people had been killed in the gas-field seizure, including one British national, and that the hostages included American, British, French, Norwegian and Japanese citizens. JaiDee
saw that today, PD......seems like the leader of the group who took these people is a real badass, so bad he was thrown out of Al Qeada for being TOO radical! Now that is hard to do. I don't see how this can end well, the Norwegians and the Japanese and French may want to just pay off these terrorists while the US and Brits will stand firm and refuse to pay.....could become a political hand grenade for Obama very quickly. More importantly, the hostages and their families are going through hell right now. Quote Link to comment
TEXASMAC
pdogg I read that also but there was a statement that I just could not comprehend... French - LED Military Intervention. Never saw the words French Led and Military in the same sentance. Quote Link to comment
ArchieBunker
Yet another possible time bomb in the failed state of Mali. What to do? I really dont know but this type of thing is very difficult to ignore. I know the Chinese are running around Africa securing natural resources from corrupt dictators. Maybe these representitives of this "religion of peace" can fuck with the Chinese. We can only hope...... Keep on an eye out for this area. This story has been totally under reported here in the US of A. But, the again, anything that doesnt happen in the Lower 48 and doesnt involve Honey Boo Boo or Snooki is basically ignored.......its just a sign on the times. Quote Link to comment
sailor
A sad situation indeed - but ofcourse something will be done to stabilize the situation.......OIL is at stake........ Unlike some hostage situations in Somalia......... Quote Link to comment
pacman
Bloody hell! The Algerians have just attacked the convoy leaving with the hostages & have killed 11 terrorists & up to 35 hostages. The Algerian spokesman has appeared on TV saying "we don't deal with terrorists". Well that's fine but it is a pointless policy if they go & kill innocent foreigners along with them. Whose side are they on? Death by terrorist or death by Algerian forces? Makes no difference once you're dead. Quote Link to comment
Tomcat
The Algerian policy in the recent bloody insurgency that they fought was go in guns a blazing and kill everything that moves ... life is cheap out there Paccers and im surprised the terrorists didnt figure this out beforehand. Algeria has a pretty bloody history. There was never a return ticket on this one. One must assume that ransom Money wasnt the objective ..who knows what stirs in these addled brains Quote Link to comment
rxpharm
There have been a couple of reports the militants wanted to trade the hostages for the release of a couple of Islamic militants/terrorists held by the US - I don't think this has been confirmed, but it could have been one of the motives.
