  1. Vee (Lucas' girlfriend) passed away. RIP and sincere condolences.
  2. It honestly wouldn't really improve the situation much. I think after a day or two you will have had enough. Yes, Pattaya Songkran is not for me. Many expats specifically choose that week to vacation. Guys that stay here for 5-6 months a year get out of Dodge shortly before. Can Songkran be fun? I enjoyed Songkran on Samui where it lasts just 2 days and on Koh Lanta where it's just one day. This is the hottest time of year and if you're drinking beer on a tropical island pouring warm buckets of water and shooting with weak water guns it can be fun. It was for me. Can Songkran be fun in Pattaya? For 8 days, I'm not sure how it can be fun. But perhaps if the following was done it would be tolerable. 1) No buckets of water thrown in the face of people driving motorbikes. 2) Water play only during the day. That's the rule but in practice not enforced. 3) Only water buckets and weak water guns. 4) No ice cold water 5) Restrict water play to specific zones such as Soi 6 in the video above. The way it is now, no matter where you are in the Pattaya area you can get doused at any time perhaps ruining your phone and making it impossible to go to any air conditioned venue.
  3. Blackpink is just one of many acts at Coachella and I would think they are not typical. But I really don't know as I'm out of touch. How well do they sing? Good enough I suppose. Not nearly as important as their sex appeal and dancing. Probably most important is whoever is creative force and of curse the marketing. I believe these KPop outfits groom the girls from their early teens teaching them whatever is needed to be successful. I think dozens of girls are under contract and there is a winnowing out process. My guess is if these four girls were not chosen and instead four other girls were in Blackpink with the same music, choreography and hype they would be equally successful. This is quite different from the Woodstock bands but perhaps more similar to the girl bands of the early 60's in which the producer was more important than the girls. I would think that some of the acts at Coachella must be fairly decent. Could a whole generation just like crap?
  4. I think you are referring to what many of us call the Jomtien Bus. It is running and I've taken it numerous times recently . I think that the 21:00 bus goes to the Pattaya North Bus Station instead of the Jomtien Bus Station. It's a great deal. You can buy a ticket at the airport but there is a good chance the next bus will be sold out so you might want to book online and it's not that big of deal if you miss it given the 143 baht price. SUVARNABHUMI AIRPORT - Jomtien bus station 07:00 08:00 09:00 10:00 11:00 12:00 13:0014:00 15:00 16:00 17:00 18::00 19:00 20:00 21:00 Bus fare 143 baht per seat https://rrcticket.com/customer/ticket/SelectRoute/Next?orig=BKK&_=0.485865880444047 ======================= The Bell Bus is a different animal and can only be booked online. No tickets are available at the airport. At the Pattaya North Bus Station you get shifted to a van that brings you to your hotel. https://belltravelservice.com/ ================================= Which is better? Depends where you are staying and whether or not you have an active Sim card with a data plan. If you are staying in Jomtien you take a baht bus for 10 baht on the main road. If you are staying in Pattaya you cross the main road and take the bus for 10 baht to Pattaya. This is convenient for hotels close to 2nd Road. If you have an active Sim card and a data plan then use the Bolt app and a Bolt car will run you from around 40-100 baht depending where you are staying.
  5. Thoughts on Coachella guys? I have to admit, I haven't heard of most of the bands. Some I've heard of are Blink 182 and Wet Leg. But as some songwriter said long ago the times they are a changin' as Lisa from Buri Ram and her Blackpink crewmates are headliners and Blondie ain't. Idris Elba (Stringer Bell from The Wire) is doing a DJ set. So would you like to be there if you wouldn't look out of place. Or do you think of Coachella the same way your grandpa thought of Woodstock? Was Woodstock fundamentally better or is it same same but different? Think much of it is being live streamed on Youtube for free. https://www.youtube.com/@Coachella/community
  6. The ride below could be as low as 40 baht for an Economy Grab car. The drivers are usually very polite to get a good rating. A Grab Motorbike for 1 person would be 32 baht. ================ Pattaya Police yesterday arrested a Thai motorcycle taxi rider who allegedly threatened foreign passengers with a knife over a fare disagreement. Around early evening yesterday, April 13th, police officers were notified of a man who appeared to be waving a knife at foreign tourists on Pattaya Second Road near Soi 6/1. The man, aged about 50-60 years old, was wearing a distinctive orange motorcycle taxi uniform. He was recorded by pedestrians as he outrageously tried to assault two unidentified foreign men with a knife. Many people both Thai and foreign alike tried to stop him, according to a recording. After receiving a report, Pattaya Police conducted an intense investigation and quickly arrested the suspect, Mr. Worapol Naroj. The suspect is a motorbike taxi rider operating near Pattaya Night Bazaar. He claimed to the police that the passengers tried to halve his fare to 40 baht a person when they reportedly initially agreed on a fare of 80 baht per person. The suspect said he picked up both foreigners from Central Beach Mall to take them to Soi 6. The foreigners remain unknown as of press time. https://thepattayanews.com/2023/04/14/pattaya-motorcycle-taxi-rider-who-allegedly-threatened-passenger-with-a-knife-over-40-baht-arrested/
  7. Life during wartime started on the 12th in Sodom by the Sea. That's eight days. Looks like two of ours. The Songkran festival that started in Pattaya one day ahead of the actual date lit up the city yesterday as parties and water splashing activities lasted almost overnight. Tourist spots in Pattaya were crammed with Songkran revelers both Thais and foreigners alike yesterday, April 12th. People, all soaking wet, were holding water guns and buckets and splashing water at each other with beaming smiles on their faces. Bars in Soi 6 to 8 were all occupied by customers, while bar staffers were seen playing water out front. The street also came alive with blasting music, and parties and water splashing literally lasted until late night on Walking Street. Things are expected to get even wilder today as Songkran officially marked its first day on April 13th and will run until April 19th in Pattaya. Meanwhile, Pattaya Wan Lai, or the Big Day, will take place on April 19th, and the road along Pattaya Beach from Central Pattaya Road to Walking Street will be closed to traffic from 7:00 AM onwards. https://thepattayanews.com/2023/04/13/songkran-festival-brings-excitement-and-energy-to-pattaya/
  8. Here's who we encountered last Christmas Eve and Christmas night.
  9. One other tip not mentioned in the above video is don't ride your motorbike. Nothing worse than a bucket of water in your face when driving. If you ride the baht bus you will also probably be doused with freezing water. Many expats are safely out of town. Those who are hunkering down have stocked ammo and other provisions.
  10. Scheduled for 3 1/2 hours but I think it's a little quicker.
  11. Don't know Zeppie, My guess is that these cases are still working its way through the legal system. Sometimes it's not easy to find the follow up and resolution. Not necessarily nefarious, it's difficult to find good English language journalism in Thailand. But unless a Thai is well connected, they are going to jail for these offenses. Thailand doesn't want to scare away tourists. As in most countries though, there is a different system of justice for the wealthy and well connected than for the average Somchai.
  12. He said a huge fuck you to people on pensions. If the French had guns they would do more than just burn buildings. Guess they will have to settle for the guillotine. Supposedly the reason FDR set up SS the way he did, having workers and employers contribute, was to make it extremely difficult for Congress to abolish SS in the future since people paid into it for all their lives. Brilliant move by FDR. Freedom is great. It is somewhat ironic though that those who shout freedom the loudest usually want to restrict the freedom of women who want abortions forcing them into the slavery/forced servitude of motherhood for the next 20 years. In fairness she is only required to be a slave for 9 months and could give up her kid for adoption. Serves her right for opening her thighs.
  13. About an hour ago there was another workplace mass shooting. This one was in Louisville. The governor of Kentucky urged people to pray for the families involved.

    Airline News

OPEC just announced a production cut which means airfares should go up. If you know where/when you are going but haven't booked a flight, now might be the right time before airlines adjust fares.
  17. It was originally on Soi LK Metro. Currently there is a ladyboy Djungjai on Chaiyapoon and what appears to be a str8 Djungjai on Lengkee.
  18. The 45 day entry stamp is no more. Arrivals without a visa from most countries that post on this forum has now reverted back to 30 days. In a separate matter, 63 members of the Shenzen Holy Reformed Church were arrested in Pattaya for overstaying their visa.
  19. If forced to choose, I would agree with Brett. To avoid confusion I refer to the 3rd Road end and Buakhao end. Likewise for Nana Plaza I sy the ground floor, middle floor, and top floor to avoid confusion.
  20. I would recommend Bali as the destination of choice for the first time Indonesian monger. Sex workers from all over Indonesia go to Bali to find customers. Bali is safe; a good place to learn the ropes. The ladyboy street action is on Dhyana Pura (officially known as Jalan Camplung Tanduk), a gay street in Seminyak. The Kuta-Legian-Seminyak area is quite popular with Aussies. Many extremely late night clubs. Went their three times from 2005-2009. Good food, good vibe. Back then if you knew what you were doing you could have sex for 300,000 rupiah. I'm sure asking prices are quite a bit higher now. I met a few nice ladyboys. My favorite was from Sulawesi. A friend met one of the street from Sumatra and brought her back to Thailand and they lived together for a few years.
  21. There are many bars where you can get frisky with a willing ladyboy but is a somewhat more discreet fashion. CIB would be one of them. Duangjai Bar in Pattaya is another one. But what made Baby Boom the king of debauchery, in addition to Josh's leeway, was the physical layout of the bar. There weren't any nooks and crannies where one could hide. Stringfellows mentioned above also had no place to hide. I've seen lots of "rocking out with cocks out" which actually was EZY Nar's slogan. But I can't recall ever seeing public anal sex in any ladyboy bar. Perhaps some of you have witnessed this?
  22. The next time a British man between 18 and 35 types search terms looking for a cheap trip to Amsterdam for himself and his friends, he may see an unusual advertisement: “Stay away.” In one such ad, a young man is slumped over a bench before he is taken into an ambulance by medical personnel. Another shows close-ups of a man being handcuffed and fingerprinted by the police. Overlaying text warns those who are “coming to Amsterdam for a messy night” that they could incur fines or hospital stays as well as criminal records or permanent damage to their health. Those videos, which are prompted by search terms like “pub crawl Amsterdam,” are part of advertising by the city aimed at deterring young British men from coming to the Dutch capital for a rowdy weekend. The warnings come even though Amsterdam is partly known for access to marijuana and legal prostitution in the city’s red-light district. Tourist destinations seem to view British tourists as at risk of overindulging in alcohol. The British government has even studied the phenomenon. In 2013, research showed that more than half of young people were likely to drink more on vacation than at home. “Some young Brits on holiday are putting themselves at risk of serious harm such as hospitalization, arrest or detention,” the British government said at the time. The campaign is aimed at “nuisance tourists” who are planning to “go nuts,” according to Amsterdam’s announcement. It started this week and is initially focused on British men between 18 and 35. The city may expand it to other tourists, from the Netherlands and other European Union countries, later this year, according to the announcement. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/29/world/europe/amsterdam-uk-tourists-stay-away.html
