    The Big Breakfast

If there was a Romscar for best breakfast then the Hideaway @ 99 baht would get my vote! The Hideaway traditionally has emphasised quality but didn't seem keen on competing pricewise. With only expats left in town and the Cheap Charlie brekkie only a few minutes away, Hideaway has now chosen to compete on price. I strongly prefer the Hideaway American breakfast to Cheap Charlie's American breakfast at the exact same price. Hideaway's breakfast includes a hash brown patty which CC lacks. Hideaway's coffee is also a clear winner. Their bacon and sausage seemed tastier. You get three pancakes instead of two. You get real maple syrup. OTOH, Cheap Charlie's gives you toast and butter. I prefer the Hideaway's ambiance. Nothing wrong with the functionality, fans, and comfort of CC, but the Hideaway seems both trendier and cozier and it's also a plus not to be directly on Buakhao. Note, you get 2 eggs with the brekkie but I don't like eggs so said skip the eggs and they wound up giving me extra bacon but that might depend on the mood of the waitress. But it was a pleasant surprise! The Hideaway also has an English breakfast at 99 baht which is also an excellent value. Nicky's, a favorite of the Brexiteer crowd in that neighborhood, also has an English breakfast but looking at the pic outside their joint it didn't appear that it includes coffee or tea. It very well might but I won't be finding out as Nicky's chooses to end it's breakfast at 1PM in a town where many eat breakfast well after 1PM. Not sure how late the Hideaway serves breakfast but I ordered mine after 2PM. Here's a pic of the Hideaway's Breakfast that I ordered:
  2. The Full Love Inn markets itself as a short time hotel but you will have to take a Bolt to its location on the wrong side of 3rd Road. http://www.fullloveinn.com/eng_version/index_eng.php?p=roomrate In practice many Thai guesthouses that have a daily rate of 500 baht also have a short time rate of 300 baht. Also, on Soi Chaiyapoon, I think you can use a massage room at Zaza as a short time room.

    China

Adam Smith's invisible hand. Globalists believe that trade helps both parties. Trade with developing countries may help the Western consumer but hurts the Western Laborer. The cost of production overseas is so low that it's still cheaper when you factor in transportation expense. But if no transport costs exist as with call centers, IT coding etc. then it is a real bonanza for consumers.
  4. The Thai Cabinet has approved an amendment to the country’s laws that will permit abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
  5. Data collection is rarely clean. Although New Cases implies to me the first positive result of a particular person, it's possible that a person testing positive for the second time could be a counted as a new case in some jurisdictions.

    Line

Many of us use Line to text or call our friends. How about the other features of Line? Are they any good? Does anyone use the Keep feature? I'm under the impression it is to send stuff to yourself which could be useful but want to make sure that nobody else can see one's Keep.
  7. The lady says you have only a 50 in a million chance of catching Covid. No idea how she is doing her math as just yesterday the UK had 25,000 new cases in just one day.

    The Big Breakfast

In a Ride For Kicks video that Dukey just posted, it seems that the Hideaway now has a 99 baht breakfast. I'm not sure if coffee is included but if it does include their brewed coffee it's an excellent deal as their coffee is quite good and their competition, Cheap Charlies, has a good brekkie deal but with mediocre coffee. it seems that many places with good breakfast deals serve shitty coffee with those deals and I doubt that the extra cost to the business is all that much which could be made up by skimping elsewhere in the breakfast.
  10. Duke just posted a video about business ideas for Pattaya but I thought it might be worthy of it's own thread. One of the ideas was a fixtures removal service and another was a balloon delivery service. Years ago one of our most active posters,Siam Sam, had an idea for a ballsack shaving service. Commercial rents are extremely low and I would reckon it might be easy to rent a place without any upfront money except for the first month's rent. What business ideas do you have?
  11. How does the 7/11 cashier know how many stamps to give out? Is it on the receipt? I looked at a receipt today and what could be a stamp/sticker accounting didn't seem to add up. It was less than what the girl gave which was less than I thought I should get. I am thinking maybe Members get more stamps than non-members? But farang don't have the Thai ID number required for membership. Could be something I don't understand. Or could be the staff doesn't doesn't understand. Or the cash register doesn't make it clear to he staff? Or the staff intentionally gives out the wrong number of stamps as hardly any farang call them on it. It would be quite easy to make a couple hundred baht per shift this way. Does anyone figure out in advance how many stamps you will be getting beyond the obvious 1 per 50 baht spend? Or check your receipt? Because sometimes the promotional stamps are substantial, such as almost 40% off.

  14. The unofficial Thai economy took a hit as eleven and half tons of ketamine worth 30 billion baht, roughly 1 billion USD was seized in a raid yesterday. Not sure if the 30 billion is street value or the wholesale price. To put this in perspective, Thailand's 2019 net exports (exports minus imports) was 9.8 billion USD. I've never been a K-Holer but the article says katamine is not popular in Thailand and almost all is exported. Looks like Somchai is breaking bad!
  15. QG's favorite newspaper reports: More realistic than the extremely low numbers previously reported but if the majority (50% +1) are Chinese that would mean all other nationalities combined would be less than 8,000 for the province. If in Vegas, I'd take the Over on that number. Where are the Chinese? It's possible that I don't notice them as I might assume they are Thai. Why would the paper quote the Tourist Police? Wouldn't that be Immigration's domain?
  16. Be careful if you want to trash a Thai hotel in the land of fragile egos who use the handy tools of eager lawyers and draconian libel laws. Now TripAdvisor, the review website everyone loves to hate, is warning potential travellers to a particular Thai hotel that they could face severe consequences for sharing negative opinions about their experience. One visitor, Wesley Barnes from the US, was arrested after he waxed lyrical in his opinions about poor service at the particular establishment. Mr. Barnes was freed and eventually apologised in a settlement between him and the hotel. But TripAdvisor slapped this notice on the hotel’s listing… https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/tourism/tripadvisor-slaps-warning-on-thailands-sea-view-resort-spa-review-page

    Coronavirus

Over 140,000 new Covid case yesterday in the US of A. To put that in perspective, daily new cases a month ago were "only" around 70,000. America First!

  20. I strongly recommend Hello Stranger. It is a Hollywood style romantic comedy done extremely well. It's on Netflix. Also on Netflix, I watched the first season (2020) of The Underclass on Netflix. Although I watched all the episodes, I suspect that most of you won't like it so this is not a recommendation. I like that they use very simple Thai spoken clearly and slowly with good subtitles so I used it to try to improve my Thai.
