THE Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) assured airport users that they will notice improvements in the domestic and international terminals when they start paying higher passenger service charge (PSC) on Nov. 1.

The MCIAA Board presided by Department of Transportation and Communication Undersecretary Jojo Lotilla said the increase will be implemented in tranches.

On Nov. 1, domestic passengers will only be paying an extra P20. The full increase of P100, or from P200 to P300, will not be implemented until Jan. 1, 2016 yet.

International passengers, though, will have to cough up an extra P200, or pay P750 instead of P550.

GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC) will take over full control of the terminals on Nov. 1.

Purpose

MCIAA General Manager Nigel Paul Villarete, in a press statement, said the Board’s decision was “concluded in consideration of the diverse opinions presented, both for and against the existence of policies espoused by the International civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the present trend of PSC increases being adopted by neighboring countries.”

Villarete was referring to the conceptual difference in the volume of passengers, the contractual obligations of government with respect to the concession agreement for the MCIAA PPP (public-private partnership) Project signed last April 22, and the existing realities at the time of the decision.

The MCIAA press statement said the PSC revision will help fund new investments to cater to growing airline and passenger traffic.

It will cover both the government’s contractual obligations to GMCAC and MCIAA’s airside aeronautical operating costs, which have increased over the years.

Meeting standards

Villarete said GMCAC will introduce operational efficiency and improve service levels for passengers and non-passengers alike.

According to the MCIAA press statement, the construction of the new international terminal, or Terminal 2, will start next year. The terminal will boost the capacity as well as enhance the airport’s level to be at par with international standards.

“MCIAA shall endeavor to upgrade and modernize airfield facilities and maintain safety standards in order to maintain its status as the first and the only certificated aerodrome in the country pursuant to Annex 14 of the ICAO and Section 139.050 of the Administrative Order 139 of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines,” the statement said.

The airport is expected to serve up to 10 million passengers annually in the next five years.

Reduce Odds Your Pinay Gets Offloaded At The Airport

The BI frequently assesses the age, education and financial capacity to travel for all Filipinos who want to exit the country. It was reported that even the son of the Deputy Spokesperson for President Aquino went through an interrogation.

To prove your Pinay has the right demographics, she should have...

- A Philippine passport valid for at least another six months.

- Adequate cash, traveler's checks or ATM card with bank statement showing funds.

- High school or university certification or proof of enrollment.

- Detailed itinerary including a hotel itinerary, tour guide plans and return ticket.

- Don't overdress or underdress. Dress how most travelers dress. If you ask her to wear shorts and a tank top, your IQ must be less than 60.

- If she's deemed your fiance or girlfriend, she might need a Guidance and Counseling Certificate.

- And for God sakes, do not carry sexual items (like condoms or photos on cellphones).

To show she intends to return (and not work illegally overseas), she should have...

- Proof of job and employer time off

- Child's birth certificate (shows she'll return to care for child)

- Proof of ownership of property or business

Lastly, answer the BI officers questions succinctly but do not give too much information because you risk arousing suspicion if your story seems contradictory or suspicious. When people lie, they either get very silent or they over-talk. So you want to avoid either extremes.

When I went to pay the 550 pesos for my departure tax from NAIA Airport (Manila) in June the woman behind the counter looked at my Boarding Ticket, gave me back my money and waved me away.....not sure why this was but maybe the tax was included in my ticket price which was Manila to Manchester via Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific

Clark airport welcomes resumption of Emirates Airlines' flights

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Clark International Airport Corporation (Ciac) welcomes the resumption of daily flights of Emirates Airlines at Clark International Airport (CRK).

Emirates will launch a daily Dubai-Cebu-Clark (DXB-CEB-CRK-DXB) circular service in the Philippines, starting March 30, 2016.

Utilizing a Boeing 777-300ER, this new route will strengthen international connectivity in two of the country’s fastest-growing international hubs.

The recommencement of the flights of Emirates Airlines at CRK marks its return after the airline’s first entry in 2013.

“After a series of negotiation with Emirates [Airlines], we are glad that they have now finally agreed to resume their flights at CRK this year. This is a fruit of Ciac’s efforts in continuing to attract more airlines to choose Clark,” said Emigdio Tanjuatco III, president and CEO of Clark International Airport.

CIAC’s fruit of labor

Tanjuatco said that the return of their daily flights in CRK was discussed with Emirates during the World Routes Convention in South Africa in September last year.

The World Routes is a convention that focuses entirely on aviation route development and strengthening networks within air transport servicing companies.

“During the routes [World Routes], we were able to talk to Emirates [Airlines] officials about their possible return to CRK. We discussed Clark Airport’s capabilities in becoming the most suitable airport for their flights. While they also expressed some important concerns about their flight operations at the airport, CIAC worked hard to appropriately address the issues and concerns that they raised,” said Tanjuatco.

In a brief meeting on Tuesday, Emirates Airlines Officials led by Guy Hickling, Manager for Procurement and Logistics and Jie Zhu, Senior Regional Manager for Airport Services Asia, expressed their gratitude to the CIAC Management for extending full support to the smooth facilitation of the return of their flights at CRK.

“I am impressed with the improvements done at the [Passenger] terminal. We are very happy that finally we are back at Clark International Airport,” said Jie Zhu.

Tanjuatco also said that the return of Emirates Airlines at CRK will be a game changer in the local aviation industry as they will become able partners in achieving progress in the strategic part of Luzon, specifically Clark.

These developments in the aviation sector are geared at supporting the government’s efforts to promote tourism and improve the local and national economy.

“I need not stress the relevance, or the kind of quality that Emirates will contribute to the Clark airport. Presently we are engaging the National Government to show them that Clark is willing and able to be that airport to help decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila,” said Tanjuatco

Tanjuatco also added that CIAC purposes to contribute to the national scene as it aims to deliver quality air transport services to its own catchment area and function as a viable airport for airlines.

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) will be delighted with the return of Emirates in Clark since most of the OFWs in the Middle East hail from Central and Northern Luzon.

The maximized utilization of Clark International Airport will address issues on traffic congestion, tourism and land & air safety.

Passengers travelling via Emirates Cebu and Clark service will enjoy the convenient and fast connections to destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and America (via Dubai).

The airline’s baggage allowance also offers travelers with 30kg for Economy Class and 40kg for Business Class.

The two-class configured Boeing 777-300ER offers 42 seats in Business Class and 386 seats in Economy. Passengers will be able to enjoy the airline’s ice system – Emirates’ award-winning in-flight entertainment that allows you to watch movies with audio description and closed captions, listen to music and play in-flight games.

Emirates will add to the airlines currently being hosted at Clark International Airport including Qatar Airways, Asiana Airlines, Dragon Air, Cebu Pacific Air, CEBGO, Air Asia Berhad, Tiger Air Singapore, and Jin Air.

CLARK FREEPORT -- An official of the Emirates Airlines said Thursday that Clark International Airport (CRK) remains to be a viable airport for both passenger and cargo services.

Senior vice president for commercial operations in Far East of Emirates Badr Abbas said this during the launching of the airline’s circular service from Dubai to Cebu and onto Clark.

Abbas said their new route will help link Cebu and Clark to the rest of the world.

EMIRATES. Filipinos from Cebu and other areas in the Visayas and Mindanao no longer have to go to Manila to catch a flight for Dubai, with the launching Wednesday, March 30, of Emirates' first Dubai-Cebu-Clark-Dubai circular service.

New Zealand waives Visitor Visa application fee for Filipinos

Philippine passport holders who are planning to visit New Zealand for less than 60 days will no longer need to pay the application fee of PHP6,260 for paper submission or NZD165 for online submission, in getting a New Zealand Visitor Visa.

“Citizens of the Philippines do not have to pay a fee or immigration levy for this application, when coming to New Zealand for fewer than 60 days,” says in New Zealand Immigration website.

Visa Application Centre (VAC) Service fee ranging from PHP570 to PHP760 and Courier Fee PHP380 to PHP600 are still needed to be paid.

Courier Fee is for passport and other documents to be returned if no arrangement to personally collect these documents was made.

An applicant must also provide passport and 2 photos (paper submission) or 1 photo (online submission), proof of good character such as police clearance.

The applicant must also be in good health evidenced by chest x-ray result and/or medical examination.

Applicant should also be coming to New Zealand in good faith as a visitor.

“You must have at least NZ $1,000 per month, or NZ $400 per month if you’ve already paid for your accommodation,” said in New Zealand Immigration website.

New Zealand Immigration also wants evidence of a round-trip ticket or “proof you have enough money to buy a ticket out of New Zealand, in addition to the funds you have to live on.”

Shit thats too bad.  If things go right for me, I will have a lot of time to spend in Thailand.  That means I would ahve to leave the country for a couple of days and come back again.  That would have been a good option.  thinking about Cambo-Phnom Penh or perhaps Singapore.  Cambo certainly cheaper and mongering choices there if I am so inclined.

BTW this might be of interest to you.  Here in the good ol' U S of A ESPN has a documentary series called 30 For 30.  They are always EXCELLENT. Tonight they are showing one, for the first time, about George Best.  I have it on the DVR and will watch it at a later time. I know one of the guys they extensively interviewed for it was one Mike Summerbee.  I heard a podcast of a 2 hour interview with Buzzer and he and george Best were VERY close.  It was fascinating.  If you can, have a lookout for it.  Dont know if it will be shown/n in England.

I know you are going for the festivities in Pattaya in November.  I will be gone by then.

I guess I could fly into Manila.  Its a 2 hour ride I believe.  Dont know if it would be worth the hassle......

Thanks for answering me mate......

Arch, Here's a link that shows which airlines fly to Clark.

http://www.clark-airport.com/airlines.htm

I've flown to Manila a couple times and took the cheap Charlie option to Angeles but for 2500 Piso, Beeway Travel in Angeles will arrange a pickup at Manila Airport to your hotel in Angeles.

http://beewaytravel.com/taxi-service/

The cheapie option is taxi from airport to Victory Liner Bus Terminal then bus to Dau terminal then a quick trike from Dau to your hotel. This will be about 500 Piso all in.

Going back to the airport, I prefer the swagman or Southern Cross shuttle followed by a taxi to the airport. This willl be around 900 Piso.

Happy Humping Archibald!

I've found Google Flights is the most 'honest' of all the ticket broker sites, because Kayak, SkyScanner and the rest of them, if they see referral or cookies in your browser from other cheap flights sites they will hide the best deals. Make sure to always clear out your browser history completely if you're checking multiple sites.

Another well known trick is use local IP. If you can get a Philippines VPN, or Thai VPN, then look at airline sites directly (like say, get Thai VPN then go to Thai airlines page) you will notice prices are lower as they are priced for locals, and inflated when you land on there with your European or US IP. Often with this method you get at least $200 off,  and things like 'preferred seating' will be much cheaper, my reg IP they quoted $160 extra to get a legroom seat, local IP it was only $20.

There is also the booking two one-way flights scheme if the country allows this, some countries don't let you enter one-way. Often an airline will quote you a really cheap one way flight to the Philippines then ridiculous amount on return, because that's where they make up the rest of their money. Use your regular internet to book Your Country->Manila, then load up Philippines VPN, and book one-way back MNL->Your Country. Often can save hundreds this way (clear all cookies too).

Note, some airlines got hip to this scheme and now ask you to enter local identification info, like CPF number if flying Brazil airlines when booking to lock out the foreigners who don't want to get scammed by their inflated pricing. In that case you'd need a local you trust to book it for you.

Also, sometimes just changing your location on the airline website and not even bothering to use a VPN will work as it did here: http://www.businessinsider.com/use-a-fake-location-for-cheap-airfare-2014-6
