KenW
My all time favourite xmas song is Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. (Shane McGowan singing with the late Christy McColl) But as an old fart atheist sentimentalist I like many of them, if not all. (I find I tend to ignore the lyrics about praise the lord kind of stuff and just enjoy the melody). But oldies like White xmas (Bing the best version) Silent Night Deck the Halls Ten Days of xmas We Wish You a Merry xmas Jingle Bells etc., do it for me. Yeh, I know, I belong in an old men's home don't I. Quote Link to comment
Kahuna
Well I am an old fuck and I ain't really fond of the traditional Xmas tunes but do like those such as.... Chestnuts roasting on an open fire Jack Frost nipping at your nose Yuletide carols being sung by a choir And folks dressed up like Eskimo and......... Oh the weather outside is frightful But the fire is so delightful And since we've no place to go Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Quote Link to comment

pacman
But as an old fart atheist sentimentalist I like many of them, if not all. I can relate to that. One you missed from your list is an excellent song in its own right, not just a good Xmas song. Little Drummer Boy. I looked in Youtube for a version I haven't heard in years but there are 1000's of them & I couldn't find it. The version I wanted is very haunting & evocative. It never fails to affect me in a good way, maybe someone else knows it. Yeh, I know, I belong in an old men's home don't I. Naah, not at all. This is where you belong, enlightening us with your wisdom & delightfully written prose. Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
It makes perfect sense that "Little Drummer BOY" would appeal to you Paccie. Quote Link to comment
JaiDee
The "Happy Hannukkah" song by local kid Adam Sandler was always good for a chuckle; especially where he talks about Dear Abby and then says; "Harrison Ford is one-quarter Jewish; not too shabby!" Saying "OJ - not a Jew" was also pretty classic. Never cared much for his movies but he nailed it on this one; Quote Link to comment
Lefty
While ya all waste your time on Xmas, I celebrate a real holiday...Festivus!!! Just like the Constanza family. I think we will have meatloaf for the dinner this year. I will air some grievances and then challenge my kid to the feats of strength. Thinks he can best the old man does he, while we won't stop til I have him pinned to the dining room floor. Now I am going up into the crawl space to get out the aluminum pole. So much nicer to have a shiny pole in the living room rather than a pagan evergreen tree covered with a bunch of decorations that you have to later remove and put away for another year. Like Frank says, all that tinsel can be distracting anyway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F73sMmb6CS0 Quote Link to comment
xyzzy
Aqualung © Ian Anderson 1971 In the beginning Man created God; and in the image of Man created he him. 2 And Man gave unto God a multitude of names, that he might be Lord of all the earth when it was suited to Man 3 And on the seven millionth day Man rested and did lean heavily on his God and saw that it was good. 4 And Man formed Aqualung of the dust of the ground, and a host of others likened unto his kind. 5 And these lesser men were cast into the void; And some were burned, and some were put apart from their kind. 6 And Man became the God that he had created and with his miracles did rule over all the earth. 7 But as all these things came to pass, the Spirit that did cause man to create his God lived on within all men: even within Aqualung. 8 And man saw it not . 9 But for Christ's sake he'd better start looking. Well it made since back in my stoner days. Quote Link to comment
