  1. From shithole to swank! Well done renovation Iain!
  2. Rather than leave the answer blank I'll guess Angkor Wat even though I am pretty sure that's wrong. While we are waiting: What movie is an anagram of FROG HAD TEETH ?
  3. Authorities in Cambodia have arrested a second rapper on charges of “incitement” in days, a court official in the country’s Siem Reap province said Tuesday, after he released songs suggesting that Prime Minister Hun Sen’s lack of leadership had led to economic decline. Long Puthera, who penned the track “Wipe Your Tears and Continue Your Journey, Khmer Eyes,” was arrested “late last week” and jailed on charges of “incitement to commit a felony or cause social unrest” under Article 495 of Cambodia’s Penal Code, Siem Reap Provincial Court spokesperson Chhuon Sopanha told RFA’s Khmer Service. “The judge ordered him detained on charges of incitement,” he said. “The accused has the right to an attorney.” The rapper had regularly posted songs on his YouTube page under the name Thxera-Kampuchea and had thousands of followers. Long Puthera’s acquaintances told RFA that they had been unable to contact his family members since his arrest, as they live in a different province. The young musician is also friends with fellow rapper Kea Sokun, known for his song “Khmer Land,” which touched a political third rail by criticizing the Cambodian government’s handling of its border dispute with Vietnam. Kea Sokun was arrested Sept. 4 in Siem Reap province and also charged with incitement after authorities booked his wedding photography business for a pre-wedding photo shoot and took him into custody when he arrived, his brother Chheang Chhat told RFA last week. Chan Chamroeun, provincial coordinator for local rights group Adhoc, told RFA Tuesday that his organization is investigating the two cases and working to provide lawyers to defend the pair of rappers. He said that the two young men had simply sang songs reflective of current Cambodian social issues and had not breached any laws. “The authorities should have allowed for their freedom of expression—this freedom is important because it helps the government understand the concerns of the public,” he said. “The authorities should allow for constructive criticism so that the government can identify loopholes in the system and fix them.” Wave of arrests Last week, amid an ongoing wave of arrests of voices critical of Hun Sen’s leadership, Rhona Smith, the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on Cambodia, wrote in a Facebook post that “the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly are protected by international human rights norms and standards as well as by the Cambodian Constitution.” She urged authorities to ensure that those arrested are promptly tried and that their due process rights be fully respected. On Friday the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said it had documented the arrest of 24 human rights campaigners since popular labor leader Rong Chhun, the president of the Cambodian Confederation of Unions, was taken into custody July 31, including eight in September alone. While 13 were released after pledging to refrain from further rights activities, 12 remain in detention—most of whom face charges of “incitement to commit felony,” including three environmental activists. The wave of arrests come three years after opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) President Kem Sokha’s September 2017 arrest over an alleged plot to overthrow the government with the help of Washington. Cambodia’s Supreme Court banned his party in November that year for its supposed role in the scheme. The move to dissolve the CNRP marked the beginning of a wider crackdown by Hun Sen on the political opposition, NGOs, and the independent media that paved the way for his ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) to win all 125 seats in parliament in the country’s July 2018 general election. https://www.rfa.org/english/news/cambodia/rapper-09152020145758.html
  4. A Frenchman has been arrested after allegedly raping a British backpacker on a Thai island after the pair met for a Tinder date. Elies Gunenez, 36, originally from Paris, was arrested on Wednesday on the island of Phuket after a 29-year-old Briton accused him of raping her on September 7. The woman, who had arrived in Thailand as a tourist but was celebrating finding her dream job as an English teacher, told police that she had met Gunenez at a beach bar on the night in question after the pair got chatting online. Police said that Guenez had been married to a Thai woman but had recently divorced after he lost his job due to coronavirus. Later that evening the pair went back to her hotel room, where she alleges that she was raped three times by Guenez, using force. The alleged victim contacted the British Embassy the next day, September 8, and was taken to hospital for medical checks for supporting evidence. She showed doctors her wrists, which she said had been injured during the rape. A police complaint was lodged on Friday, September 11, and officers issued an arrest arrant and began searching for the suspect. Police began searching for Guenez, and on Wednesday received information that he was driving a white Nissan Juke towards the town of Chalong. Officers set off to find him before noticing his car driving in the opposite direction, according to The Phuket News. After confirming that the man was Guenez, police arrested him on suspicion of the 'rape of a person over 15 years old by use of threat or force'. Police say that Guenez has admitted having sex with the woman, but has denied rape. He is being held in custody pending further investigation. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8738079/British-woman-29-raped-French-man-met-Tinder-Thai-island.html
  5. I guess it depends where and how much you are paying. What's nice about the streets of Angeles City is you can agree on a short time for 700 pisos (about 500 baht). So even if the sex is mediocre it's not much more than a drink and a ladydrink at NEP. So, that's a pretty good ROI. Of course, if she is a performer you can give a good tip but you are protected from overpaying for perfunctory sex. In Cambodia or Thailand I'd say about 50% have given me a good ROI. So how can we improve our ROI. Approach 1 would be mitigating the risk by doing 1000 baht Thai Friendly girls. Approach 2 is having a stable of regulars who give an acceptable ROI and every once in awhile try someone new that seems really appealing.
  6. My understanding is at an Alternative Quarantine Facility for which you pay. No Hotel Room Service from Sunny.
  7. Welcome back Iain! The girls look great! So does the new joint! Was it a bar before or a complete remodel?
  8. You might have to scroll right. Or you can type biggrin with a colon before and after biggrin.
  9. It should be OK now! Please let me know if it's not TC. Tis both a puzzle and a conundrum to me!
  10. On my browser the Edit Button is no longer next to the quote button. You now have click on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of the post that you want to edit and then you will see the word Edit. Might be different on various devices and browsers.

    RIP Ice

RIP Ice and my condolences to her friends and family.
  12. LBR just had an upgrade and the look may be slightly different depending on your browser. Please let us know if you are experiencing any new problems or if old problems have been solved.
  13. These pics don't do full justice to Nam and Nut who are stunningly beautiful in person. Nam is more classically beautiful while Nut has the somewhat quirky look of top supermodels. The best ladyboy massage shop in Thailand got even better!
  14. Looked at some bikes today ranging from 13K to 15K but didn't take any out for a spin. One factor that I hadn't considered is helmet storage. Some of the bikes I looked at didn't have room under the seat to store a helmet. Trying to figure out if this is a big deal or not as we would be using the bike exclusively local. The lack of helmet storage then becomes a question of helmet quality as I wouldn't want to leave an expensive helmet hanging on the bike and would opt for the half helmet. My thinking now is given the same price and the way we would use the bike, I'd rather have a bike that seems better without the storage than an inferior bike with helmet storage. Thoughts?
  15. Howdy Bubba. welcome back! I was staying in a place with an extremely low toilet for a couple of months and actually built up my quad muscles a bit getting on/off the throne. Every gym should have a low toilet!
  16. Will most probably buy a cheap motobike. It will just be used occasionally for very short local trips. Won't be riding into Pattaya on Thappraya Road. We are both happy with the baht bus (though if you say baht bus to a Thai they have no idea what you mean). Wifey will probably use it more than me. If buying we will put in teerak's name for simplicity. It is not a concern that she could take off with a 15K baht motobike. I haven't taken a test ride but it just doing a quick check, I found one place that had a 17K bike and another some 18K bikes. Also for simplicity will buy from some sort of dealer. I suppose some dealers are better than others as far as dealing with paperwork. I don't want a trip to the Amphur. Want the seller to deal with everything. Getting the best price isn't my objective but rather making the buying process as painless as possible. But I do want to be aware of exactly what documents and insurance are needed. Googling around is seems the Green Book is important. And I think Government Insurance is required. If anyone knows possible pitfalls and hassles as far as registering the bike please give me a heads up.
  17. Big office! I didn't think that they had that many employees unless they are sharing space.
  18. Soi Arunothai is an interesting area. First stumbled upon when walking with BB and Lefty off the beaten track. Historically an area for low budget expats who choose not to be in the belly of the beast. But nowadays in Covid times everywhere is low budget with rents in new condo blocks almost as low as at Nirun.
  19. It seem that in Asia toilets are built for Asians who tend to be shorter than farang. Adding to that is a bad knee and getting up and down on/off theseat isn't ideal. Just moved and things that I usually use for a little support are not a good solution in this particular hong nam. In Cambodia and the Philippines I destroyed two sinks using them for support ripping them off the wall. I am renting so can't make any permanent changes to the place. I am thinking a plunger might be a good workaround. Anyone have any ideas?
  20. Looks interesting; two girls oiling each other up! Is there some sort of schedule for the live feeds? Looks like it's an interesting place to pop in for a beer on a live feed night. Bad for me that they started this as I was moving out of Pattaya.
  21. The bus from Swampy to Jomtien and vice versa has resumed service. There are four busses each way per day @ 9:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00. Price is 130 baht. For many people the Jomtien station is much more convenient that the Pattaya North station as the Jomtien station is on an active baht bus route. There is also one bus per day from Swampy to Hua Hin. The really good news is that for a 25 baht service fee you can book online in advance. http://airportpattayabus.com/

    Coronavirus

Lockdowns and Border Closings are two different things. Keeping the border mostly closed with a mandatory quarantine will help prevent disruptive lockdowns in Thailand. Of course border closings hurt tourism related businessmen that have invested significant upfront money and don't want to walk away from their leases. I think that many Pattaya businesses will close and at some point there will be new tennants paying lower rent.
