Good question Zeppie! The fees seem high but I am thinking it's a nice backup in case of an emergency. Sometimes fees don't matter. If I understand correctly, cash can be sent from one country and picked up in another country is less than an hour. I just checked their website and I can pick up money in Angeles City about two minutes away from where I usually stay. So if for some reason I have difficulty with my credit cards and run out of a cash I can have a friend from the USA or Thailand send me money. I'm not sure how else you can receive money if you don't have a bank account.
