I have friends who run up big tabs, buy lots of ladydrinks, and splash around the cash. They say it's fun and could never afford to spend with reckless abandon at a Las Vegas topless bar. Reckless abandon is fun. Once place I can do so is at the Angeles City 7/11 where they have seating for over a hundred, music blaring out of the speakers, and none of those things called ladydrinks. But even if you're on a bar budget of 10,000 baht a month, you can still have fun by choosing your spots, with a combination of big nights, small nights, and stay at home nights. Can't do reckless abandon on that budget of course rather it involves consciously choosing situations where the fun you have that night will be enhanced by buying a ladydrink. On forums a common refrain goes something like "if you have to think about buying ladydrinks, you should just stay at home". But I know lots of value for money guys. They tend to be guys who take longer trips. Some guys enjoy bars while other guys view bars as just a means to end. If you go to bars solely to get laid then Thai Friendly is the way to go. It's free as long as you don't mind a restriction of one message every 10 minutes. No barfine, no ladydrinks, no hangover and very often the same girls who work at the bars. There is also Pina Love which works the same way in the Philippines where there are very few ladyboys who work in bars. Here's JayZ's bar tab which he proudly posted on Twitter. A huge contract back then but much smaller than the contracts now. He got fined something like US$15,000 or $20,000 for some incident on the basketball court. At the time I was working in a good middle class job in a large multi national corporation. I figured out what percentage of O'Neal's salary was taken away by the fine. As the numbers worked out the same percentage of my salary would equal US$6. JayZ's net worth is US$900 million and his wife Beyoncé is worth another $500 million. Then again, I am not a big drinker and a big lady drink buyer!!!!! If I were having a great time in a bar and the vibe were right, I wouldnt mind splurging once in a while. My idea of a splurge might be a couple of thousand or so but thats hardly a huge amount. One of these trips, maybe I will order a few delicious pizzas for the staff and have a pizza/sausage party!! BTW I found a GREAT place for pizza. Its called Pizza Mania and they only deliver. I NEVER bother with pizza in Thailand because its shit and theres always something else delicious and cheap to eat. One night the football was on and I had a hankering for some good pizza. I tried it and it was the closest thing to New York pizza I ever had in Thailand and, BY FAR, the best pizza I ever had in Thailand!!! Its not cheap but its worth it!!! Most of the commercially successful stuff these days seems to show guys with big houses, big cars and lots of babes. Hell he probably will deduct it on his taxes as an entertainment expense and those of us that pay taxes in the US left the tip... I stupidly did about a 7000 baht bar tab this trip at a GG GoGo. I apparently was having a good time. I apparently was very drunk as I later crashed and burned somewhere and my back was bleeding. A rather unpleasant looking Thai fellow had to accompany me to an ATM as I didn't have enough baht. I usually go out at night with about 4500 baht. I've never run up a 7000 baht tab, but your story illustrates what's great about Pattaya. 7000 baht is a manageable amount for a one off. Imagine if you had been drunk in a Vegas lap dance joint? Something about not having to worry about how I was going to get home I think. I walk most everywhere. It was farther from the bar to the ATM than the bar to my room. I've been trying to avoid getting totally hammered but obviously screwed up again. It always hard liquor when it happens. I quickly learned that given any chance thai bar staff will pad your bill, you might think your special in the bar and a "friend of the mamasan" let me tell you, your not and as soon as your guard comes down they will stiff you. I dont like the bar scean much these days and much prefer to use thaifriendly and craigslist, I never Never never run up a bill i pay for every drink as i get it,Been doing it for years and funny enough i never get ripped off. Tipping, On a recent trip with foggy through the southern mountains, we pulled up at a wee coffee shop to dry out and warm up after getting caught in a massive down poor.Let me tell you in an open jeep you get fucking wet.Anyway back to the coffee shop, foggy and i had coffee and a snacks,(lets remember were in an off beaten track thai town) so i go up to pay and its 300 bt, the very lovely girl takes my money and hands back the 200bt change, i offer her a tip as they were so nice. she refuses it and smiles widely,Thanking me for my custom. I walked out to the jeep feeling so good , and we were on our way. This whole experience reminded me of the early days in thailand, and for those of you who don't know It is not a custom in thailand to tip.This tipping crap is what we westoner's have done to locals in places like pattaya and phuket, where there almost demanding tips for shit service these days .Whats the answer??? You tell me. OH dont run up bills and pay what you owe and walk out with a smile.
