Army Close All Happy Ending Massage Shops On Sukhumvit

The army dispatched teams of soldiers to close down all non-tradtitional Thai massage shops in the Thonglor Police District early this evening.

No direct reason was given by the soldiers tasked with the job of visiting and closing down the 100s of happy ending massage shops on Sukhumvit Sois 22, 24, 26 and 33.

At around 3pm calls were received that the army would be coming in a few hours and word from those in the know – the people who take 20k plus a month from all the massage parlors for tea money – said that shops should get their house in order. In other words, make it look like anything but a knocking shop.

Websites were taken offline and condoms by the boxload hidden or taken off the premises. Not that any of this made a difference.

At around 6.30pm troops arrived on Soi 24 and politely informed every naughty massage shop business was over for the day. Puts the lights out and go home. When their work was done it was over to Soi 33 for a repeat performance.

Just how they knew which shops are of the naughty I don’t know but they didn’t make any mistakes from what I’ve been told. The genuine Thai massage shops remain open for business.

Speculation is rife amongst owners as to what tomorrow will bring but it is hoped that the shops will be allowed to re-open but right now it’s a case of wait and see what happens as no instructions were given by the military other than close now.

Stickboy posted another update today saying it's business as usual.

Happiness Returns To Sukhumvit Massage Shops
Published by Stickboy BKK on November 27th, 2014

Following yesterdays closure of all the massage shops offering more than a rub down in the Thonglor Police District by the military, the good news for owners, working girls and those in need of a happy ending is that it is back to business as usual today.

Word came at around 10am this morning from the boys in brown that the condoms could come out of the cupboards and websites put back online as there would be no further interruption to service, or should that be servicing?

Just what yesterdays shutdown was all about no one knows. From the owners I spoke with there was no mention of bungs, bribes or backhanders. What went on at police HQ may well be a different story.

The army and police were raiding the Nana Bars on Sun and Mon of this week forcing the girls and lbs to do "pee pee test" .

Lots of photo's taken and put up on social media with customers visible also , as a consequence the bars were empty next night with many girls not showing up .

The roadside beer bars have suffered a clampdown too with alcohol having to be disguised in plastic cups .

The knocking shops were open the next day. I think the military just wanted to show the police who is in charge.

There are a few different things in play here. There's a police bribery scandal in the news, and a few of those arrested have been from the Thong Lor precinct. And on top of that, the military is dismantling Thaksin's organization of corruption and intimidation.

I don't think it was about the shops at all.

It might have something to do with this story, but of course sheer speculation on my part.

From Nov 23. edition of Bangkok Post

Pongpat, 5 officers relieved of duty

Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) commander Pongpat Chayaphan and five other police officers on Sunday were relieved of duty and dismissed from their positions pending investigations.

National police chief Pol Gen Somyot Pumpanmuang signed an order on Sunday to move them out of their posts immediately.

The action was taken against Pol Lt Gen Pongpat, his deputy Pol Maj Gen Kowit Wongrungroj, Marine Police chief Pol Maj Gen Boonsueb Praitheua, Pol Col Wuthichart Luansukhan of the Consumer Protection Police Division, Pol Sr Sgt Maj Surasak Channgao and Pol Sr Sgt Maj Chatrin Laothong.

Samut Sakhon immigration chief Pol Col Kowit Muangnual, who also has been arrested and charged, was not in the order.

The officers have a chance to appeal the order to the Police Commission in 30 days and to the Central Administration Court in 90 days, the order said.

A police source said a panel will be set up on Monday to probe severe disciplinary action against the six officers.

Three civilians have been charged in connection with the police officers. Two of them are on the run and the third has been arrested.

Police will take them to the Criminal Court on Monday to seek approval for detention.
