JaiDee
Kristofferson played a short but excellent role in Payback with Mel Gibson. I liked Timberlake's work in The Social Network and Alpha Dogs; he's a bona fide actor. I think J. Lo is an excellent actress and singer, really underrated for her acting ability. Out of Sight with George Clooney from 1998 is a great movie. Quote Link to comment
pacman
The piano player for Bette is Barry Manilow. Congratulations Hefe. That question was actually for Sam.... Thanks for the description of Barry, he sounds like an old camp whacko.... Quote Link to comment

pacman
Sam, did not have an answer. :-( Come on Sam. After my faux pas with Paul Anka you might have expected me to come back with a Barry Manilow question. One good turn & all that... Quote Link to comment

SiamSam
Jorman Kaukonen was a member of a famous San Francisco band in the 60s and 70s. When the band was for looking for a name he suggested a part of his nick-name. The nick name consisted of four words. The first two were Blind Thomas ____?____ _____?____. What was his full nick name and what was the name of the band? Quote Link to comment
JaiDee
Not sure of the nickname but I will go with Jefferson Airplane Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
Not sure of the nickname but I will go with Jefferson Airplane BINGO!!! His nick name was "Blind Thomas Jefferson Airplane". Was it just a lucky guess or did something give it away? Quote Link to comment
pacman
Wasn't there a member of Jefferson who had a liver transplant? Was it this guy? If not, who was he? And didn't he die? Sorry for being morbid but that's all I can remember about the band. Quote Link to comment
JaiDee
BINGO!!! His nick name was "Blind Thomas Jefferson Airplane". Was it just a lucky guess or did something give it away? San Francisco, and I know a little bit about the history of Grace Slick and co. Quote Link to comment

SiamSam
What prolific songwriter penned "A Natural Woman" for Aretha Franklin; "I'm into Something Good" (Herman's Hermits); "Take Good Care of My Baby" for Bobby Vee; "Up on the Roof for the Drifters"; "Pleasant Valley Sunday" for the Monkees and many many others? pacman
Doc Pomus? I had never heard of him till the weekend when he featured in a doco I saw. I don't know if he wrote these songs but he wrote a hell of a lot for many artists. Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
Afraid not Paccie. Not Doc Pomus although he and his co-writer Mort Shuman were prolific also with "Sweets to my Sweets"; Save the Last Dance for Me"; "This Magic Moment"; "Turn me Loose" and many more. Quote Link to comment
JaiDee
Wow, no idea Sam, I was still wearing diapers when most of these were made :) Quote Link to comment
Hefe
Oh yeah, Doc Pomus... I have to see that that docu, years & years ago (decades actually) 60 Minutes did a whole segment on him, living in a wheelchair & in Paris. I remember seeing his name on lots of "oldies" from the 50s & early 60s... apparently was quite a character. There also was a team from that same era that wrote a ton of my favorite singles when I was a kid: "Poison Ivy" "Charlie Brown" "Hound Dog" "Kansas City" "Yaketty Yak" "Stand By Me" "Spanish Harlem"... this list just goes on: Lieber & Stoller 2 jewish guys who thought they were really black & wrote an amazing body of work. I think they finished their era with "Is That All There Is" & "On Broadway". All these folks used to work in the Brill Building & show up for work in the morning & bang out tunes all day, Neil Diamond started there too, must've been amazing.... Quote Link to comment
SiamSam
The writer team I am looking for also came from the Brill Building during the same era. Hefe you must know who I'm talking about. Quote Link to comment
Hefe
Yes sam, when one talks about pop royalty that person is a king & queen of songwriters... Quote Link to comment

JaiDee
OK, most of us are within this date, so...... Which band/performer took the stage first at Woodstock? Bonus points; Who was *scheduled* to go on stage first but were stopped by the police on their way to the festival and had to go on second? More bonus points, which surely most people know; who played last? Quote Link to comment
