Bob Dylan has re-recorded his early 1960s classic “Blowin’ in the Wind,” which originally appeared on The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. The updated track is the debut Ionic Original—a new analog format developed by longtime Dylan collaborator T Bone Burnett. The one-of-a-kind disc will be auctioned by Christie’s in London on July 7. The recording will go for an estimated bidding price of £600,000-1,000,000.

The new rendition of “Blowin’ in the Wind” marks the first time Dylan has recorded the song since tracking the original 60 years ago. The Bard cut the new version last year with Burnett, who produced the single. Only one copy of this new recording of “Blowin’ in the Wind” will be offered as an Ionic Original disc.

Burnett announced Ionic Originals last month. The new, high-quality audio technology will come in the form of one-of-a-kind aluminum discs painted with lacquer featuring “a spiral etched into it by music.” It purports to be the first major new format in analog music reproduction in more than seven decades, following the advent of the polyvinyl disc. (Previously, records were cut from shellac.)

“Sixty years after Bob first wrote and recorded ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’, he is giving us a new recording of his song,” Burnett said in press materials. “One that is both deeply relevant for our times and resonant with decades of the artist’s life and experience. We’re grateful to Christie’s for their belief in the ‘Ionic Original’ and for presenting Bob’s masterful recording to the world in a unique and meaningful way.”
Peter Klarnet, a Senior Specialist at Christie’s, added: “Christie’s is excited to be offering this unique recording of Bob Dylan’s ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’, one of the most important songs written in the last century, on this groundbreaking new ‘Ionic Original’ format. I very much share T Bone Burnett’s passion for the sonic excellence of analog sound and it is fitting that this important development is being offered as a stand-out lot in The Exceptional Sale, London on 7 July 2022.”

Is this some sort of charity or where will the profit go?
It’s not like he needs the dosh or is he maybe a capitalist after all?

dunno, but of course he is a capitalist. Isn't everyone in one way or another?

don't forget 30% of sale will go to Christie's.

studio, musicians costs if any.

i suspect it was Dylan simply helping his mate T-Bone with publicity for whatever this new thing is. Must be R+D costs that need to be recovered.

Absolutely not! Maybe you say this on a philosophical level, don’t lure me into this, bbg my friend. This weekend's reading will be Edward Abbey and some Nietzsche, but first a trip to the shopping mall. They have a HUGE sale. Many great deals to be had. H&Ms t-shirts made by children in  sweatshops all over S E  asia are of great value. Cambodia (decent), Bangladesh (slacking a bit in quality lately) Vietnam (best quality, lasts at least 4 washes).

No sale, no commission fee.

Not sure if I should take my petroleum car or the e-scooter. Looks like it could be rain. Maybe just take a Bolt which is a bit different here compared to eco conscious Thailand. This electric bicycle you can rent by hour or minutes by a downloaded app.

i don't do philosophy! that's Quinn, not me. I'm too thick for philosoficul stuff.

i like the bike! i got one like that ! just had a 2nd battery added and spliced into the main power cable, so now i can go twice as far, can't go any faster though, which is no bad thing.

Don't use Bolt! you'll be a booster brother before you can say 'vaccine'....

I'm considering one, it's better than a scooter, I think. They are pricey but I'm thinking buying a used one and get  a new battery.

check out the price of a battery first. one for mine actually cost more than the original bike with battery did. nearly anyway.

so, had a 2nd battery made by someone i know who builds and fits batteries to convert normal bicycles to leccy ones. only cost 2k baht and twice as strong as the original.

great for local travel, as long as no hills. ideal for Jomty.

anyway,  before anyone accuses us of going off topic, i'm sure that Bob must have one for getting around his back garden...

what you have to ensure is that the battery is removable for charging, especially if you live on the 4th floor... on those 3 wheeler ones batteries aren't detachable.

here is same as  mine, except mine is all black. i took that little baby seat off and attached a plastic small crate to the space, second battery can live in that.

'Black Madonna' was a big help for the months i couldn't walk.
