beijo
This one strictly for Newbis since I assume all the oldtimers know and have stayed in these places, All are guest friendly an only steps away from NEP (Nana Entertainment Plaza) 1, Majestic Grande Hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 2. The most expensive one (US$ 90) but the best one as well, very good service , nice rooms and an outstanding breakfast buffet. 2. Majestic Suites Hotel on Sukhumvit around the corner from NEP, US$ 45, room quite small, basic, simple breakfast, good sevice. 3, Dynesty Inn on sukhumvit Soi 4, just a few steps away from NEP, no breakfast, basic service, additional charge if more than 1 guest, rooms basic.US$ 50 4.Ivory Hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 4 about 500 yards down soi 4 from NEP, US$ 35, large rooms, forget about service, hotel shows its age, has breakfast.
bumblebee
Hua Hin: Here is a link to a selection of places to stay in Hua Hin. There are plenty more spots around town and usually easy enough to find somewhere unless there is something on in town. http://wikitravel.org/en/Hua_Hin#Sleep A link to a map of the area. http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-map.htm

SLBT
I have been to Hua Hin quite a few times and it's been a bit of a difference in spectrum to be honest. My first trip was to the Hilton and wow... outstanding hotel for sure with fantastic views as you ascend to your room... Each trip after was booked through www.villarenters.com. I had decided to do the self catering option and book a villa. I was glad I did and this meant I had the style of trip I wanted. HH is certainly a lovely chilled out place and travel around. I always hired a car and off we went seeking out other adventures..

katana57
Chiang Mai.Everyone's got their favorite, but I always stay at one of these 2 places.First The Montri hotel: Hotel M Nice clean rooms, friendly staff, and no hassle guest friendly.Excellent breakkie,if you can get up for it.They do the kao soy gai(Chicken curry noodles)as good as anywhere, too!Right behind the Thapae Gate. But this place beats anywhere hands down. It's a serviced apartment, and so large and comfortable.http://www.chiangmaiservicedapartments.com/Cheaper if you book with Agoda Studio 99 Serviced Apartments Great quiet location in the center,Thapae Road.BIG bed, free wifi, nice big balconies.Best place to stay in CM,and doesn't cost an arm or a leg.
katana57
I know everyone's got their own personal favourite, but here are the last four hotels I've stayed at in BKK:- Stayed here 3 or 4 times.Never disappointed. But of a hike to Nana, but always took a taxi http://www.royalpresident.com/ Thought I'd try this for a change, and was pleasantly surprised. All the perks of the above hotel, with a better location http://www.grandpresident.com/ And every night on my way out,or on my way back,it was great to stop at this place for a couple of strong cocktails."The blue sky van" Stayed at the Aspen suites for two nights the last time I was in BKK.Not too far from Nana/Guess,and quiet for where it is. http://www.aspenbangkok.com/ Last but not least,is one of my favourites.Probably because it was the hotel where I had my first LB experience!(When Guess bar was in soi1!!!)Way down soi22,very peaceful, olde world atmosphere. http://www.housebythepond.com/

Rukki
I just returned from Chiang Rai and stayed at a really nice place! Very small room, but all I needed. Free wifi, free breakfast ( although I never got up early enough) and hot and cold water in sink and shower! Bathroom was nice too! http://www.thenorth.co.th/
katana57
An alternative to a hotel room in BKK would be to rent a condo :- This one's near Asoke station http://bangkok.craigslist.co.th/vac/3169130829.html or this one on Suk. soi 13 http://bangkok.craigslist.co.th/vac/3168179097.html For other locations in Thailand, click on the "vacation rentals",there are many for BKK,Pattaya,Phuket,Chaing Mai,Samui, etc. Worth a look.
etgohm
Phuket and Samui. Guys l am looking ahead to May 2013 as l am planning 3weeks in Phuket and Samui. I will be alone for 10 days and as much as l want to go to Patts first and then onto Phuket, l want to try something different and spend the whole time on the other side. Needless to say there are a ton of choices and it's a serious job finding the right places, so any suggestions or thoughts on hotels would be greatly appreciated. I will be spending 10 days with a lady as well so l have no doubt that l will find something that works as well. I guess l am trying to make the best of it without overlapping. Nothing worst than arriving and finding that the place sucks. Any thoughts. Stay thirsty my friends, Cheers, ET
pdogg
I was happy in the 700 baht low season rate room at the Holiday Park in Lamai. http://holidayparksamui.com/ Note, the pics are wrong for the 700 baht room.

pdogg
Good stuff, what about Samui is it more for down time or is it a place to play? Lots of beer bars in Lamai. Without a doubt a place to play. Also a place to chill. Bunch of ladyboys had a late afternoon volleyball game on the beach near Bikini Bar everyday. Also some ladyboy cabarets in Chaweng. Lamai and Chaweng are quite different. I strongly prefer Lamai but some guys might like Chaweng better. There's a couple guys who know the Samui scene quite well on LBR but they may not be checking this thread. Perhaps a thread about Samui action?
