Today there was an earthquake in Mynamar that caused many buildings to rumble and one building that was under construction to collapse. Anyone feel it?

Looks terrible! A LB friend informed me in the morning. Now it's all over the news, even here in Europe.

Hope everyone is okay :acute:

In Phitsanulok l thought l was having a dizzy spell. The whole house seemed to be shaking. No apparent damage, but not fun at the time.

Any visible damage in Pattaya?  Lots of tall buildings there...  namely that never-finishd tallest building by the peer...

I am scheduled to fly to BKK next week.  wonder if it will happen...  The TH airports are currently closed as aftershocks are expected...  this is going to cause massive backlogs for the airlines and flight plans will change... also some damaged hotels may no longer be fit for guests.

As of this post all eyes are on BKK but there are hundreds of populous cities between Myanmar and BKK and many more dead people are a certainty.  Official TH death count 7 hours after the quake: 3 people !!!  It will go into the 1000s between Thai and Myanmar...

Makes me think of the Phuket Tsunami 20 years ago...

PS 3 hours later:  airports not closed and damage does not seem so widespread as first suggested by the footage of the collapsing building...

PS 24 hours later: 1000+ dead confirmed in Myanmar with estimates of 10,000 total.  In TH so far only 10 deaths attributed to eartquake, although many people missing and presumed in the rubble of the building that collapsed.

Two people I spoke to who live in Pattaya said they didn't feel anything.  But a friend's apartment in Bangkok was rumbling for a couple minutes.

A buddy of mine, currently in Patts, told me the same. He didn't notice anything

Quite strange, considering the chaos in Bangkok

Could be because of the soil structure of Bangkok. Very spongy, which is supposed to amplify the shock waves. Patts may be a firmer base.
