"Non-TR" is a concept I use to report from the field without committing to doing so at my comprehensive best focusing instead on specific episodes, observations, reflections. But even so I often end up making a string of posts that read like a TR, especially when I am in Thailand which I know is what eventual readers are most interested in. This is how I started the Pattaya part of the trip, but then I stopped and am hereby skipping over multiple days in Pattaya where I cut my stay short to elope south to Trang and the offshore island of Koh Muk with the Duangjai sissy I had hooked up with and we are now in BKK for my final 3 days of the trip.

To recall, when I got to Pattaya I went steady with the first sissy I barfined.  After a most ROMantic LT, she moved in with me and we spent our first days and nights in bed in a stupor of sex and sleep interrupted only by the need to get out and seek food.  We had talked about going to Koh Larng but over the 4 or 5 days we could have done it, we never got out of bed early enough to catch the last boat (11:00 AM) because she just chose to stay in bed all morning making love and I'd have been a fool to dissuade her.

So after 3 or 4 nights I made the decision to stick with Nana for the duration and I also made the decision to get ourselves out of bed and see something of Thailand together.  So I got us plane tickets to Trang (about USD90 each RT) where I had been planning to go for the last 10+ years but I wanted to do so from BKK in a first class train compartment that were always sold out when I tried to book one.  Trang itself is a small provincial city, where there are no 7-11s and at 9 PM all the residents are in bed and hardly any car in the streets.  Mongerwingwise I saw 2 Karaoke bars with GGs and I did NOT see any sissies hustling, although if I had been there all by myself I might have tried my luck with a few vendor sissies I spotted at the night market. We spent 2 nights in Trang because I like these smaller cities that remind me of when I fist came to Thailand 30+ years ago, but even in Trang the signs of changing times are evident with many of the old style ground floor family shops shuttered as is the case all over Bangkok nowadays.

But the reason farangs come to Trang is to drive another 50 km west to the Andaman Sea and visit the coastal beaches and a sprinkle of little offshore islands between the mainland and the bigger island of Phuket.  I picked Koh Muk, but there is also Koh Lanta, Koh Lipe, Ko Kradan and a bunch more going NW towards Phuket.  Koh Muk reminded me of Koh Phi Phi 20 years ago.  Quaint little place, not much to do but enough bars and restaurants to keep you interested 2 or 3 days which is how long we stayed.  The beaches are endless and wonderful but the sun is unforgiving and even though I wore a T-shirt when out of the water I got painfully sunburt on my back.  We rented motorized boats and kayaks to fill our days.  Nana snorkeled and said she saw a dugong (manatee).  I went right after to where she said she saw it but I did not see the beast.  Even harder to spot than the dugongs are the sissies and I saw only one in Koh Muk and he was even older than mine. Did not see any GGs throwing themselves at the farangs either.  Bringing my own sissy was a good decision.

I was taken aback by the photos as I mistakenly identified certain backgrounds as scenes from Koh Phi Phi. I even thought I spotted the cliff with the Viking Cave. It made me wonder why there were so many long-tail boats.

I'll never understand this. It's not specific for thais although they're very good at it. I know a few persons my age who come from old serious money and they would never flash their blingbling, in fact they try to stay under the radar. It's the nouveau riche and social media in an appalling symbiosis.

This post is where I share updates and reflections on BKK based on my latest stay there last week:

Overall vibe:  Like in Pattaya, BKK tourists are back to record-breaking levels.  Most are still the farangs but the Indians and Arabs are taking over the sois. I did not see the Chinese tour groups like in Pattaya, but they must be around also.  This has to be leading to upward pressure on prices of the stuff we mongers like about Thailand:  hotel rooms, restaurants, taxis, prostis, drinks... Every time I come back I feel less special for being part of the TH experience.

Taxis:  They can't raise their meter fares, so many (most?) are refusing customers unless we pre-agree to higher than meter prices. A metered fare from my rive gauche hotel to Nana is 100-120 baht, which this trip I only managed once going to Nana.  Coming back later at night I dont even try to ask for meter anymore and will offer 200 until a driver is interested; most aren't!  Going from the hotel to the airport I was ripped off by a driver who made up a pretext to drive me around.  I held my ground telling to call the tourist police but it was unpleasant and I still paid more than the direct meter would have been.  Taxis used to be one of the stress free things about TH. Not anymore.  There is Bolt and Grab but often you get the "no driver available" screen.

Airport lines:  When I arrived the emigration line was several bends huge, so I took a shot at the diplomats' booth and got through in 5 minutes.  On departure, the line was also very long but then I saw they now have electronic passport scanners and was out of there also in 5 minutes.  For the first time ever I did not get an exit stamp on my passport.  Could I have used one such scanner also on arrival?

Hotel:  I still consider the riverfront hotel where I stay a bargain brought on by Covid but every time I come back the prices have edged up slightly and I can tell more and more foreigners have become aware and are partaking of the bargain. During the Asian Crisis of the 1990s I used to stay at the Oriental, then I switched to the Shangri-La, then the Sheraton, and after this one I will have run out of fancy river view hotels I feel I can indulge...

Mongering scene:

Patpong:  Continuing its slow death...  Patpong 1 is now mostly an open air food and drinks court with mobile food stalls.  There are no more than 3 GG gogo bars that I spotted.  Merchandise vendors, at the far end, are a fraction of what they used to be.  Also at the far end of Patpong 2 they consolidated a small stretch of gay bars and gogos (2?), possibly the last such concentration in BKK.  The rest of Patpong 2 is a wasteland.  In both Patpongs 1 and 2, I spotted all of one ladyboy in an outdoor middle of the soi beer bar.  The only such bar left. The only such ladyboy left.

Nana:  Rocking with GG mongers! This time I went to Obsession and had a beer and it did not match my expectations of more attractive than elsewhere ladyboys.  Several fatties and seniors on staff and way too many ones deformed by plastic surgery.  But at least there were upwards of 20 sissies.  I was the only non-Asian punter while there.  B-52 was OK but only had 7 or 8 sissies, and then there were the 2 postop bars with the amputees but I did not go in.

The Sukhumvit ladyboy bars:  Cindy's I got there too early perhaps, saw it was dead and turned around and went to Soi Cowboy where Cockatoo and Shadow were OK with 8-9 sissies each and then I never made it back to Cindy's.  CIB was rocking by the time I got there and I counted at least 15 ladyboys in bikinis and schoolgirl waiter uniforms. Quite a few other punters including one of the PY Gold members were there.  June is on leave doing more plastic surgery.  I had come in with my own ladyboy so I bought their only Cambodian one (forgot the name) a couple lady drinks while the 3 of us chatted and played pool. Why Not remains the nicest sissy space and well-enough staffed but it tends to be empty of customers when I go there and that was again the case.  

Black GG prostis:  I used to see the African chics cruising Sukhumvit.  This time I did not but ran into upwards of 20 of them in front of the Novotel on soi 4.  Have they always been there?  I had never noticed.  I love black women but the ones in TH are mafia-controlled and I am afraid to mess with them.  Last year one wanted 5000 baht ST.  I knew she would have come down but it was a non-starter.

Russian prostis:  I used to see MILFy ones cruising Sukhumvit and on the front yard of the Rajah hotel that has since been built over.  This time I did not spot a single white-skinned one.

Other areas of interest:

Chinatown:  I remember going in the 90s to BKK's Chinatown for the picturesque vibe and delicious food but at night it was dead.  This trip I went back for the first time this century and it has come a long way and it felt like Khao San Road at night but with partying Thais not farangs. Worth a visit.

Weed shops:  Still plenty but I noticed 2 or 3 big ones near Nana have closed.  The government announced it will reverse the liberalization at the end of this year.  Will all those shops have to close?  Or only new ones not allowed to open?  I used to get the 100 baht blunts but in Pattaya this time I got one so bad (all heavy tar tobacco) that it left an horrible taste in my throat and turned me off weed.  Took like a week of sissy cock-scrubbing my throat to get rid of the taste.
