  1. Uber is selling It's Southeast Asia business to Grab. In Phnom Penh, I have been happy with the the PassTaxi App. Anyone have any favorites in Thailand, the Philippines and the rest of Southeast Asia?
  2. WASHINGTON — Transgender troops who are currently in the United States military may remain in the ranks, the White House said late Friday, but the Pentagon could require them to serve according to their gender at birth. The policy recommendation that President Trump approved flatly states that “transgender persons who require or have undergone gender transition are disqualified from military service.” But it also largely gives the Pentagon the ability to make exceptions where it sees fit. The policy adopts recommendations that Mr. Trump received last month from Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. It comes after court rulings froze the president’s initial ban on transgender troops — issued in July — as potentially unconstitutional. “In my professional judgment, these policies will place the Department of Defense in the strongest position to protect the American people, to fight and win America’s wars, and to ensure the survival and success of our service members around the world,” Mr. Mattis wrote in a summary of his recommendations to the president. The policy announcement outraged advocates for transgender troops, and the advocates vowed to fight the limits in court. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/24/us/politics/trump-transgender-military.html

    AIS's new dirty trick

I've never used it but my guess is that the fees are minimal. I think it is designed for people in Thailand as probably not too many people want to top up abroad. Besides the free topups at Family Mart, Tesco Express, and 7/11 (can't topup AIS at 7/11) I've seen topup machines and the fee is only 3 baht. Btw, Nancy is not inside the topup machine.
  10. Happy St Paddy's Day to our Irish posters! The parade in Pattaya begins at Alcazar's hmmmm parking lot at 3:45 which prob means 4:15 down Soi 4 then a left at Beach Road and ends at the school on 2nd Road and Pattaya Tai. Ireland's Ambassador to Thailand (nice job if u can get it) will be leading the parade. That night England vs Ireland in Six Nations Rugby.
  11. Cat's Eye, aka Detention Site Green, the secret CIA torture site is back in the news because Trump's nominee for CIA director ran the joint. So where was it? Speculation revolves around two places, a Voice of America facility in Udon Thani and a small Royal Thai Marine base on an island right off Utapao airbase. I guess it could be anywhere. Waterboarding in Linda Bar's Hong nam? Where do you think it was? Gina Haspel, who ran the secret Thailand-based waterboarding 'black site' torture facility. Gina Haspel, a veteran CIA clandestine officer picked by President Donald Trump on Tuesday to head the Central Intelligence Agency, is a controversial figure, backed by many in the US intelligence community but regarded warily by some in Congress for her involvement in the agency's black-site detention facilities. Haspel ran a secret CIA detention facility in Thailand codenamed "Cat's Eye" but better known as Detention Site Green. Two suspected members of the al Qaeda militant group were subjected to waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques at the facility. Three years later, still during Bush's presidency, she helped carry out an order to destroy videotapes of the waterboarding at the Thai site, which simulates drowning and is considered a form of torture, according to those people. Such facilities are called "black sites" because their existence is unacknowledged by the US government. Every Thai government and army commander since 2002 has denied there every was such a site on Thai territory - which is the point of the very existence of "black sites". The exact location of the Cat's Eye site has remained secret despite hundreds of attempts by Thai and foreign media to discover its actual whereabouts https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/world/1427606/new-cia-chief-ran-thailands-secret-waterboarding-site

  14. It's really fun riding around in Foggy's jeep. Feels great. Amazing reaction from everyone!
  15. I always liked the only gogo in Jomtien, cheap draft, rock music, and sometimes a ladyboy server or dancer. A customer did not want to pay the bill, 1380 baht for his group, and is now in the hospital. http://www.pattayanews.com/content/24973
  16. Maybe the article meant Marine 2?? That hotel on 2nd Road in between the two sois that lead to Walking Street. JimSlim now tells me that the entire Arab Quarter is gutted.
  17. There was a big fire at Marine Disco last night which spread elsewhere on Walking Street. It took about half an hour to get the fire under control. Marine Disco might be gutted. It was a favorite of many ladyboys and forum members in the wee hours. No signs it was a terrorist attack; perhaps due to lax enforcement of fire codes. Seems a transformer exploded.
  18. Talking about cocksucker blues, near Ao Nang beach in Krabi province a Norwegian yelled out "Ladyboy Crazy" and flipped her the bird as she passed on motobike. She stopped, her motobike got knocked over and she stabbed the Norwegian in the rib cage. He is recovering in the hospital and she is charged with attempted murder. https://news.sanook.com/5621127/
  19. Sounds like quite an adventure SJ! Do you plan to purchase airline tickets in advance or will you be making decisions based on how much you are enjoying being somewhere? Weather might play into your plans as your trip will be during the rainy season for many of the countries you will be visiting. From Bangkok to Chiang Mai, I'd fly. Airfare is cheap on that route.. Or is your plan to stop off overnight somewhere on the way there?
