Air Asia now has flights from Swampy, not just Don Mueang. I don't even consider flights to/from Don Mueang. Going to Don Mueang from Pattaya you can take the 130 baht bus Jomtien bus to Swampy and then the free shuttle but have to build in lots of extra time in case I hit traffic. Coming back from Don Mueang they won't let you on the free shuttle unless you can show an outbound ticket so gets expensive even though time is not an issue for me. Air Asia may have a reputation for being low cost but once you get to the final price it is often more expensive than the competition. Air Asia might b cheaper if you are only flying with carry on luggage. https://tna.mcot.net/english-news/line-today-english-news-547556

So far I've looked at all 3 condos that are in Lucas' two videos. Like Lucas I'm not a fan of the Base, very small rooms, the main thing going for it is a separate kitchen. I've looked at a few units at Grand Avenue. I like the Soi 15 location but prefer the quieter side of this L shaped soi where the Mercure and Urban are located. I don't believe that the Grand has studios, the 35 sq meter units are small one bedrooms. Lucas was looking at a more spacious 47 sq meter 1 bedroom. But whether 35 or 47 neither have built in wardrobes so are not as spacious as they look. Many condos have saunas but Grand is one of the few with a steam room. Brand new, so hard to tell how the building will hold up in a few years if buying. Also if buying, the developer still has control of the condo committee. Of the three, I prefer the Grand but 47 sq meter @ 16K but one bedrooms are available for as low as 8K elsewhere (although 10K might be more typical) albeit in a less convenient location for Bua Cowboys.

BANGKOK (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Sex workers in Thailand have launched a petition calling for prostitution to be decriminalised and urging authorities to remove all penalties for selling and buying sex. Empower Foundation, a Chiang Mai-based group that supports sex workers, said it hoped to collect 10,000 signatures and present the petition to parliament to help persuade lawmakers to consider changing the country’s prostitution law. “The law punishes sex workers - 80% of whom are mothers and the main breadwinner for the whole family,” said Mai Junta, a representative from Empower. “It turns us into criminals,” she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation on Tuesday. More than 1,000 people had signed the petition since it was launched on Saturday. Thailand is predominantly Buddhist and deeply conservative, but is home to an extensive sex industry, largely catering to Thai men. Hordes of tourists also flock to the bright lights of go-go bars and massage parlours in the Thai capital Bangkok, and the country’s main tourist towns. Women and LGBT+ rights activists say the current law, which made prostitution illegal in 1960, does little to protect sex workers, while repeated arrests and fines for doing sex work has driven them further into poverty. A 2014 report by the U.N. agency fighting AIDS estimated that there were 123,530 sex workers in Thailand but advocacy groups put the figure at more than twice that number and say it includes tens of thousands of migrants from neighbouring Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Prostitution is currently punishable by a fine of up to 40,000 baht ($1,274) or two years in prison, or both, while people who pay for sex with underage workers can be jailed for up to six years. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-thailand-law-sexworkers-idUSKCN26D0Y5

St. John is paradise. Water crystal clear water. I guess they don't dump wastewater into the bay. I stayed at Maho Bay. Despite it's beauty never retuned as not too many months later I discovered Thailand and mongering won out over natural beauty. Jimmy C said: It's a little east of Puerto Rico. You fly into St Thomas and take a ferry to St John.

You sum up the pros and cons quite nicely Jimmy. We felt that a public display of Likes would add a hostile feel to the board if guys publicly Like a hostile attack post and would encourage cliques. When LBR first started, our members came from 3 existing forums. Many guys from two of the forums knew each other well for years and we were concerned that there would be an us vs them mentality between the guys from those two forums and the third so thought the absence of Public Likes (called Reputation back then) would help build a sense of community. One of our main objectives is to keep LBR as friendly as possible given that many forums tend to get nasty with long standing feuds between members. A good example of this nastiness is the Thai Visa forum whose posters tend to be grumpy expats who delight in snarky comments. Quite interesting to read the snarky comments but don't want to be on the receiving end of them so don't post there much. It is an excellent source of info about Thailand though. I admit on a forum on which I sometimes post that has nothing to do with Southeast Asia or mongering it is nice to see who liked my post. But I guess we felt that if someone really likes a post they always have the option of responding to it. So lots of pros and we chose the route that we thought would result in a friendlier forum.

In the video above, lots of Thaiger readers were bashing Immigration. Guess the quality of Immigration offices varies according to location but I have always been impressed with Jomtien Soi 5. Yesterday, I was applying for my annual Extension of Stay (commonly referred to as Retirement Visa). I had all the proper documents and was in and out in about a half hour. Today as is customary, I went to pick up my passport and that took a minute and then went to do my 90 Day Report where the queue was about 10 minutes. I was not required to fill out any form whatsoever for the 90 Day Report nor any supporting documentation. Just presented my passport which has. apiece of paper listing the due date of the report (you can do this 2 weeks in advance or one week late with no penalty).

I am rarely bored. It always seems that something is filling up my day. Even during the days of severe covid restrictions in Pattaya, I was never bored although I was agitated and antsy when not being able to use the pool. I have lots more time on my hands than last year when I was teaching in Cambodia but things seem to fill the gap. Since 2015 the Bernie campaign and the rise of Trump has rekindled my interest in politics. That will probably carry over to some degree in the probable Biden administration. The next 6 weeks will eb interesting as I love the horserace aspect of the election, figuring out various roadmaps to 270 electoral votes. Post election day should be interesting too as a tight Biden victory will unleash a shitstorm. I like swimming but have never been in the water in either Pattaya or Jomtien as I like clean water but a pool is OK with me. I'm online quite a bit and also read. I don't seem to get lonely as I am OK with my own company. Even in Cambodia where I didn't have lots of friends, chatting to other teachers in the staff room fulfilled by need for conversing with barangs. Bars only take up one night a week, occasionally two. Don't like waking up with a hangover. Too bad they don't serve synthahol like they do in the 23rd century Star Treks where you can just shake off the effects of booze.

I often been surprised that some really great topics don't generate many replies while topics that I would guess would go nowhere gets mega replies. In depth replies are a sign that someone is really interested. For instance, one of Lucas' videos that Duke posted about searching for condos to rent/buy has been my obsession for months so it was easy to reply especially given that I had looked at the condo in question. But sometimes, even if one is interested in a topic it's difficult to compose a coherent response. Some of it is luck. If I'm on the laptop it's much easier for me to post a thoughtful reply. There are certain weeks when I'm busy so not easy post.

Given that one digit must be changed in both 1965 and 1975, I'll go with 1955 the year that many people say rock and roll was born.

Pari mutual system of betting? What is the expected value of a ticket or in other words how much is taken out of the return by the track/government? Is there an English racing form with past performance stats? Near the BTS or MRT?

According the video, Ying used to run Las Vegas on 13/2 so perhaps a new business model is just walking away from old businesses in which the landlord won't lower the rent and opening up a new joint in which there is no rent nor key money. Wonder what So Nice was before? Perhaps it was the Miami GoGo

Tales of Asia: amusing anecdotes of our travels.

Those old 100 riel notes used back then were dirty as fuck, soiled from years of use but for your purposes perhaps better than a crisp new 100. I remember meetingup withyou guys that night after you arrived. One of the most fun nights I had in Southeast Asia! -
Well done QG! My wrong guess was South Africa! I'll guess that beer cans first appeared in 1948.

The above video and the upcoming series is quite interesting and worth watching if you're thinking of renting/buying a condo. He kicked of the series with the Centric Sea which to me is not a great location unless you're s Soi 6 bar manager. Centric Sea is easy to return to yet it's not convenient to get to either Beach Road or Soi Buakhao if you want to get on a baht bus headed south. Units at Centric Sea are smallish which appeals to Chinese. There is a recent condo trend with smaller units but more elaborate common areas. In today's Covid market that unit won't rent at the asking price of 17K. It seems that the selling point for that unit is that there is a garden area right outside his room. I looked at a few Centric Sea units two years ago and found them smallish, and problematic that there were no curtains in most units by the sliding glass door that separates thriving room and bedroom. I've looked at quite a few condos in the last few months and have found that rental prices have dropped dramatically but that asking sales prices have not so I decided to rent for another year. I started out looking just like Lucas, for the "best deal". After looking around I narrowed my search to specific areas. For example the condos behind Jomty 2nd Road offer great value, lagoon style pools at 6500 baht a month but are best suited to guys who ride bikes everywhere, therefore not for me. I gave Centric Sea a pass and Lucas did not seem crazy about it either. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks for posting Dukey!

Authorities in Cambodia have arrested a second rapper on charges of “incitement” in days, a court official in the country’s Siem Reap province said Tuesday, after he released songs suggesting that Prime Minister Hun Sen’s lack of leadership had led to economic decline. Long Puthera, who penned the track “Wipe Your Tears and Continue Your Journey, Khmer Eyes,” was arrested “late last week” and jailed on charges of “incitement to commit a felony or cause social unrest” under Article 495 of Cambodia’s Penal Code, Siem Reap Provincial Court spokesperson Chhuon Sopanha told RFA’s Khmer Service. “The judge ordered him detained on charges of incitement,” he said. “The accused has the right to an attorney.” The rapper had regularly posted songs on his YouTube page under the name Thxera-Kampuchea and had thousands of followers. Long Puthera’s acquaintances told RFA that they had been unable to contact his family members since his arrest, as they live in a different province. The young musician is also friends with fellow rapper Kea Sokun, known for his song “Khmer Land,” which touched a political third rail by criticizing the Cambodian government’s handling of its border dispute with Vietnam. Kea Sokun was arrested Sept. 4 in Siem Reap province and also charged with incitement after authorities booked his wedding photography business for a pre-wedding photo shoot and took him into custody when he arrived, his brother Chheang Chhat told RFA last week. Chan Chamroeun, provincial coordinator for local rights group Adhoc, told RFA Tuesday that his organization is investigating the two cases and working to provide lawyers to defend the pair of rappers. He said that the two young men had simply sang songs reflective of current Cambodian social issues and had not breached any laws. “The authorities should have allowed for their freedom of expression—this freedom is important because it helps the government understand the concerns of the public,” he said. “The authorities should allow for constructive criticism so that the government can identify loopholes in the system and fix them.” Wave of arrests Last week, amid an ongoing wave of arrests of voices critical of Hun Sen’s leadership, Rhona Smith, the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on Cambodia, wrote in a Facebook post that “the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly are protected by international human rights norms and standards as well as by the Cambodian Constitution.” She urged authorities to ensure that those arrested are promptly tried and that their due process rights be fully respected. On Friday the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said it had documented the arrest of 24 human rights campaigners since popular labor leader Rong Chhun, the president of the Cambodian Confederation of Unions, was taken into custody July 31, including eight in September alone. While 13 were released after pledging to refrain from further rights activities, 12 remain in detention—most of whom face charges of “incitement to commit felony,” including three environmental activists. The wave of arrests come three years after opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) President Kem Sokha’s September 2017 arrest over an alleged plot to overthrow the government with the help of Washington. Cambodia’s Supreme Court banned his party in November that year for its supposed role in the scheme. The move to dissolve the CNRP marked the beginning of a wider crackdown by Hun Sen on the political opposition, NGOs, and the independent media that paved the way for his ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) to win all 125 seats in parliament in the country’s July 2018 general election. https://www.rfa.org/english/news/cambodia/rapper-09152020145758.html

A Frenchman has been arrested after allegedly raping a British backpacker on a Thai island after the pair met for a Tinder date. Elies Gunenez, 36, originally from Paris, was arrested on Wednesday on the island of Phuket after a 29-year-old Briton accused him of raping her on September 7. The woman, who had arrived in Thailand as a tourist but was celebrating finding her dream job as an English teacher, told police that she had met Gunenez at a beach bar on the night in question after the pair got chatting online. Police said that Guenez had been married to a Thai woman but had recently divorced after he lost his job due to coronavirus. Later that evening the pair went back to her hotel room, where she alleges that she was raped three times by Guenez, using force. The alleged victim contacted the British Embassy the next day, September 8, and was taken to hospital for medical checks for supporting evidence. She showed doctors her wrists, which she said had been injured during the rape. A police complaint was lodged on Friday, September 11, and officers issued an arrest arrant and began searching for the suspect. Police began searching for Guenez, and on Wednesday received information that he was driving a white Nissan Juke towards the town of Chalong. Officers set off to find him before noticing his car driving in the opposite direction, according to The Phuket News. After confirming that the man was Guenez, police arrested him on suspicion of the 'rape of a person over 15 years old by use of threat or force'. Police say that Guenez has admitted having sex with the woman, but has denied rape. He is being held in custody pending further investigation. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8738079/British-woman-29-raped-French-man-met-Tinder-Thai-island.html
