Thailand hasn't had a reported domestic case in over 5 weeks. Should we be worried about it?
  2. The bar is looking great Jimbo! Best of luck with the reincarnated Sweethearts!

  4. I view a spike as a sudden uptick and a wave as a sustained uptick. Travel bubbles: Three guys were found trespassing by Mabprachan Lake on the Darkside. They were put on trial and the judge called them in one by one. Judge: What were you doing in the lake after 9 pm? Farang 1 from Birmingham: Your honor, I was blowing bubbles. Farang 1 exits, Farang 2 from Melbourne comes in Judge: What were you doing in the lake after 9 pm? Farang 2: Your honor, I was blowing bubbles. Farnag 2 exits, Somchai comes in Judge: Dont tell me you were blowing bubbles too. Somchai: No sir my name is Bubbles
  5. Perhaps a native speaker; perhaps not. Could be Mediterranean. He doesn't look like a Yank though.
  6. It's in the Jomtien Museum of Modern Culture along with Lady A's missing stiletto and Sunny's ripped denim cutoffs. He'd have to ask the curator, a certain Monsieur (with the accent on sewer) Garçon Aveugle Grunt.

But one of the few super developed countries in which health care is a privilege instead of a right. Maybe it's better for the average citizen if one's country doesn't run the world. It's a real shame that mask wearing has turned into a political issue and an absolute disgrace that Trump doesn't wear a mask.
  8. The new location is much better than the old one. There's a bigger outdoor seating area with more comfortable chairs.and bigger inside too. Feels like a Parisian cafe. There was a nice crowd of loyal expats at tonight's soft opening. Emmy is doing something right as many other bars in Jomtien have zero customers. I took a bunch of pics but most didn't come out very well so I just posted one, a couple of posts up.
  9. No. Not unless you climb over a fence that separates Soi 6 from the parking lot. Soi 6 is a short dead end soi that has a few boom massage shops with ladyboys.
  10. Russian woman accused of killing her 1 year old daughter and then attempting to kill herself in Naklua Pattaya Police, based on testimony of forensic investigators, stated the child was reportedly killed by blunt trauma resulting in being swung by her legs at a bathroom toilet until the toilet broke. The child was then covered with towels and the remains of the toilet. Pattaya Police stated Anna then attempted to kill herself by jumping from the third floor of the apartment, but survived with only minor injuries. Marijuana was found at the scene as well as two bags of other illegal drugs that were being tested as of press time. https://thepattayanews.com/2020/07/06/russian-woman-accused-of-killing-her-daughter-and-then-attempting-to-kill-herself-in-pattaya-denies-charges-claims-she-was-ordered-to-do-so/
  11. Thailand’s central bank is forecasting 8.1% contraction in GDP Tourism, trade are slumping, while strong baht is a worry Thailand has been cited as a success story in containing the coronavirus outbreak, having gone more than 40 days without any local transmission of Covid-19. Yet its economic outlook is the darkest in Asia. Gross domestic product is forecast to contract 8.1% this year, according to the Bank of Thailand. That’s worse than official forecasts for any of the main economies across Asia, and would be Thailand’s biggest GDP decline ever, surpassing even its plunge during the Asian financial crisis two decades ago. “Thailand has large exposure as a tourism hub, close to 15% of GDP, and it also has large exposure of the export-oriented sector,” said Kiatipong Ariyapruchya, senior economist for Thailand at the World Bank. “Hence the large shock to GDP" Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg predict Thailand’s economy will contract more than others in Southeast Asia, at 6%, and with a weaker rebound in 2021 of 4%. Here’s what’s weighing down the Thai economy: The state of emergency, nighttime curfew and business closings imposed across the country to fight the virus have crushed private consumption and investment, which were already on a modest downtrend last year. Purchases are expected to pick up as the lockdown restrictions are lifted and as government stimulus measures filter through to the economy, but investors could be slow to return given the gloomy prospects. Thailand recorded no foreign tourist arrivals or receipts for a second straight month in May as the pandemic forced border closings. Annual tourist arrivals are forecast to drop to 8 million, just one-fifth of last year’s total. Despite plans for travel bubbles with select countries, Thai authorities are proceeding to open the country slowly and carefully. Efforts to kindle domestic tourism won’t offset the tremendous losses to this critical industry, which last year made up about one-fifth of Thailand’s economy. At first glance, Thai exports appear to have held up relatively well this year, contracting for only two of the first five months of 2020. As it turns out, distortions in one commodity have helped cushion the overall blow. Rising gold prices during the outbreak have led local investors to sell gold, boosting total exports. Excluding gold, total shipments have been hit hard by weak global demand and supply-chain disruptions. The Thai baht has gained almost 6% against the U.S. dollar in the past three months, the second-best performer in Asia tracked by Bloomberg. Despite the Bank of Thailand’s three interest-rate cuts this year, which have brought the benchmark rate to a record low of 0.5%, the country’s success in containing the pandemic has kept the currency strong. The central bank has showed concern about the baht’s strength, which hampers exports and will complicate the economic recovery. Officials have warned they’re considering additional steps to tame the baht if needed. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-07-06/here-s-why-thailand-s-dire-economic-outlook-is-the-worst-in-asia Note, there are several graphs that would not format correctly on LBR that you can view if you click the link.
  12. Hope same same with the Delirious ladyboys? Hernerth, are you still in Pattaya?
  13. Is Maker's 46 a premium version of Maker's Mark or is it fundamentally different?
  14. Good question Woodie! I think you want to be close to Buakhao but I'm not sure if there is an advantage to being directly on Buakhao. If it's going to be an indoor bar I think the ideal location is the soi that Baby Boom is on. Seems to be a a soi of choice for Gentleman's Clubs. It's a pleasant easy to walk wide soi with a comparative lack of motobike traffic. The buildings there look newish so nice in that regard. If it's an outdoorish bar then I like Soi Chaiyapoon. Except for flooding on rainy days, I really like the feel of that soi. It just feels like the way that a third world sex street should look like. Both locations have the advantage of having at least one existing ladyboy bar. Think that's a big plus.

I reckon there is no right or wrong answer in the tradeoff between the tourism industry and public health. If they adopt the Icelandic scheme I sure hope they would start cautiously with just a few relatively safe countries. IMO, Thailand has been overly cautious with beach closures, curfews, and booze bans. But a plane load with just one positive sends 200 possible spreaders out into the general population. Another alternative is to target people who spend 3 months or more in Thailand and have a mandatory quarantine with hotels at various price points. Perhaps permit limited pool use or a walk/jog. Make sure the wifi works! While a deal breaker for many, some would welcome the opportunity. Right now, I feel quite fortunate that I can be out and about and have little fear of contracting this plague because according to government stats it has been eradicated in Thailand for the time being.
  17. Agreed and Agreed. For me, the location was ideal. Very private but without a desolate feeling. Soothing. Perfect. But unless someone knows about the bar, it's unlikely they would just stumble upon it. Except for perhaps Annabelle! Or maybe she knew about it. Best of luck to Emmy if she finds another bar!

WTF A Bangkok hospital director has proposed flying in Covid-19 patients from abroad for treatment at his hospital. Dr Rienthong Nanna, director of Mongkutwattana Hospital, is considering medical flights to bring international Covid-19 cases to the hospital in an attempt to stimulate the economy. Each flight would carry 60 passengers and be adapted with disease prevention measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus outside the cabin, he said in a Facebook post. Under the proposal, Mongkutwattana Hospital will act as a state quarantine facility, caring for foreign patients until they are identified as “Covid-19 free” and able to start their visit as tourists in Thailand. The proposal has been supported by several clinics that treat international patients. Accommodation providers who want to collaborate with the hospital to prepare medical flights and state quarantine have been invited to contact the director of Mongkutwattana Hospital’s office. However, the Public Health Ministry has not yet announced whether Thailand will accept Covid-19 patients from overseas. https://www.nationthailand.com/news/30390740
  19. Feels like someone just kicked me in the nuts. Hopefully Emmy can open a new bar with Teya soon. Perhaps there will be low rent deals with no key money. But it won't just be the same to me. I really liked how private that side of Soi 4 is. There would not be many outdoor bars (I know Katty is technically an indoor bar) where the Annabelle show could have taken place. Best of luck to Emmy and the girls!
  20. My guesses: 2) Noon 6) Lily 7) Nancy Re Pic 5, I always thought a nice theme for a naughty bar would be every drink you order gets stirred by a cock.
