Well punk would have at very least had a much different face without them, that's for sure, Jim. Anyway, what a shame, I loved the Ramones & they most definitely put the 'pop' into punk... Always loved the Ramones starting in the late 70's and always had their records; the double-live album recorded on New Years Eve 1977 at The Rainbow in London was a classic.
