Hitler Fried Chicken In Bangkok

The “Hitler” restaurant, which opened in Bangkok last month, has a storefront logo very similar to KFC's but with an image of the anti-Semitic dictator responsible for the mass murder of 6 million Jews and millions of others in the Holocaust during World War II.

The fried chicken restaurant was originally publicized in May when British author Andrew Spooner tweeted a photo of its façade. “Very bizarre Hitler Fried Chicken shop in Thailand. I kid you not. Complete with pic of Hitler in bow tie,” he wrote on Twitter.

“The place opened last month and nobody quite knows what to make of it. I went in for a bite last week and got some fried chicken, which was pretty good, and asked the guy behind the counter why it was called Hitler. He just shrugged his shoulders and said the owners thought it was a good image.”

Chulalongkorn is considered the Harvard of Thailand.   :flirt2:

Hot on the heels of Bangkok's Hitler Fried Chicken comes Hitler Chulalongkorn University.

Students at the Thai school have erected a massive graduation mural in their middle of their campus that inexplicably features an image of the German dictator heiling.

The banner was first hung up two days ago, according to our tipster who would only identify himself as, "a concerned and incredulous American student studying the language and culture of Thailand."

Coconuts readers might ask - why would students at Thailand's most prestigious academic institution create such a mural? Good question.

The answer is probably embedded on the mural itself. Accompanying the Führer are superheroes like the Hulk, Superman, Captain America, Batman and Ironman. Our hunch is a hapless scholar Googled the term 'superman' and somehow confused it with Nietzsche's concept of Übermensch of which Hitler was a well-known fan.

Or perhaps we're giving the kids too much credit. There's only so much that can be blamed on lost in translation and this kind of stupid requires a level of ignorance that is difficult to fathom.

Either way it's a sure sign that Chula needs to have their students read some fucking history books.

I would say its more about bad taste Art. His visionary image is so strong that it draws the eye. Whatever you look at it. Deeper meanings are missed about the approach. An awful man but managed to get a lot of followers in his rise & rule. Lets hope the movement across borders doesn't reincarnate the same problems back at home in the future.

Chulalonkgorn Dean of Fine and Applied Arts Faculty Associate Professor Supakorn Dispan apologized to the public yesterday for the benightedness of his students for putting up a superhero-inspired graduation mural that also featured the visage of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

The apology followed a comment made on July 12 by an official at the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a US-based Jewish human rights organization. The Center framed its commentary with the headline, “Wiesenthal Center outraged and disgusted by the silence of University’s Elite.”

The Center accompanied its writing with a photo of a fresh graduate doing a “Seig Heil” salute, a gesture of greeting in Nazi Germany, in front of the mural.

After talking with the faculty’s student committee, Supakorn revealed that the main message behind the mural was that there were both good and bad superheroes. The dean reiterated that he did not agree with the message and would talk with the freshman who was responsible for the public display, Khaosod reported.

The newest uni scandal involves Rub Nong which is the Thai phrase for hazing.

Rangsit University Apologises For 'Naked' Beachside Hazing

(17 July) The Thai social network has been buzzing with controversial photo purportedly showing group of freshmen at a university standing naked in the sea - with their private parts barely covered by their hands - during a hazing session supervised by senior students.

A woman, believed to be one of the senior students, was also seen walking by the group of male students, seemingly oblivious of their stark nakedness.

The photo appears to be a reminder that the rituals of hazing (rub nong), in which senior students forcing the freshmen into series of humiliating activities to earn "respect" from the older students, are still widely practiced despite campaigns by some progressive students and human rights activists against the culture.

After much speculation and discussion, Rangsit University, which is based in northern suburb of Bangkok, issued an apology, acknowledging that the students who appeared in the photo study at its Faculty of Engineering.

The statement says the students organised the trip to the sea on their own way, and the university is not involved in any way.

It also insisted that the university has strict regulations over students′ activities. They are required to respect dignity of fellow humans and refrain from lewd acts or alcohol consumption, according to the statement.

Rub nong trips outside Bangkok are common for many university students. There has been constant complaints of sexual harassment, forced alcohol consumption, and excessive violence during some of these trips. Injuries or even deaths in rub nong trips have been previously reported by Thai media.

Supporters of rub nong culture claimed that it reinforces the principles of ′SOTUS′ - a short term for seniorty, obedience, tradition, unity, and spirit - among the students, while civil rights activists argue that it amounts to dictatorship and inhumane treatment of younger students in universities.
