Well, I'll be right here on December 21st...And where is that?...Right where I am supposed to be...Which is where I always am...I learned the hard way a long while back not to rely on other folks or other places for my happiness...If the World as we know it either ends or keeps right on rolling along on December 21, 2012, I'll be happy and in a happy place...

BTW: Where is your Aussie friend Sam...I found a nice Australian shiraz - cabernet blend the other day that truly didn't hurt my happiness one bit...

The shiraz I love is sunshine in a bottle. That is not my original line but I borrow it because it evokes exactly what a good shiraz is.

If I could never drink another grape variety again in my life but shiraz, I would be perfectly happy. The wine recognised as the best thing Australia has ever produced is Grange & it is a shiraz wine. The latest vintages have been blended with cabernet sauvignon for reasons unknown to me but 20, 30 & 40 year old bottles of Grange are considered to have years of aging left in them, such is the power of the wine.

The current release of Grange retails in liquor shops for 5 to 600 dollars a bottle. Not many people I know drink it often but according to a friend just back from one of his regular trips to China, it is considered THE drink to have when entertaining clients in China. According to him they go through cartons of it at a sitting. The more they drink, the more face they command.

I find it a touch irritating that they throw their money around like that but if they can afford it & they enjoy it, who am I to stop them. However, when I learnt they don't like it straight & insist on mixing it with Coca Cola, I nearly had a seizure. The chief executive of our local casino confirmed at a speech he gave that his Chinese clientele insist on Grange to be served any time they want a drink with the prerequisite Coke to be served with it.

His words to an Australian audience of senior businessmen were met with outrage that the best thing that could ever be put in a glass is subject to such abuse by people who need to impress but have no real liking for the product. I can't say I blame them.

I'm am sorry Paccie I can't remember what the name of the winery was and my recycle bin was picked up Friday so I can't even go digging in the trash...I am however, pretty positive that the label was a very bright yellow...If that helps...It was tasty...I will buy another bottle...

Back on topic...I am having a party...These are the guests I have invited...

Young? King?

Thanks I think.

The only yellow label wine that comes to mind is Yellowtail. They export large amounts of red & white wine. I did get to try one of their whites recently but it was a little sweet for me. Actually it was a lot sweet so I doubt it was what you had.

If you come across any Aussie wines, please let us know the name on the label. It may be something I am familiar with. I hate that so much vin ordinaire is exported from here supposedly representing what our wine industry is capable of when in reality it is awful. Or average at best.

And when we do export something extraordinary like the Grange, wealthy Chinese snap it up to impress their friends when they don't even like it enough to drink it straight. Where is the justice?

It wasn't Yellowtail...Yellowtail here in the States is like $4.00 a bottle...They must give it away in Oz...I'll let you know when it get back to that liquor store...

Everyone is invited to my End of the World Party on the 21st...No need to RSVP...Just show on up...I'm easy to find...I live at The House at the End of the Universe...Right next door to The Restaurant at the End of the Universe...

And at the appointed hour we can all join together and sing my favorite tune, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish...

btw.. what time does it all go "tits up" (UK time)? as we have a table booked for our "nose bags" at 11pm in an Indian restaurant, which funnily enough is quite aptly named The Nobin :rolleye0012:

I may be in London this Friday/Saturday/Sunday. How far is Manchester from London Mr. Duke?

A signpost outside the Town Hall in Stockport says that London is 182 and a half miles away or just over 2 hours on the Virgin train from Euston Station (London) to Piccadilly Station (Manchester) which stops at Stockport Staion 6 minutes before Piccadillly
