1. Great stuff Stealth - good to see more news about the Filipina lb pageants - there's generally not much reported about them in the forums. Thanks!
2. Good information Stealth - and it seems obvious that if you're drunk, the powers of observation and reason are impaired - so picking up a freelancer and staying safe is directly related to how clear headed you are. I would recommend that for a newcomer to an area, using bars for initial encounters is likely the safest method (although still not 100% safe), until you sort out what the "lay of the land" is.
3. Personally I think politicians and lawyers are much more sleazy than prostitutes or johns!
4. BB, there's been a change for the talent show, as per e-mail I've received from the Tiffany Show: Unfortunately no longer open to the public.
5. In China this rice gruel or porridge is known as "congee" or "joke" depending on the prevailing dialect. In Thailand it is called "joke" - my favourite Bangkok hotel offers free asian breakfast, so I can go with joke moo, joke kai, joke pla or joke goong (pork, chicken, fish or shrimp).
6. According to the Tiffany Show the following events are free and open to the public: On 31st October 2012, the contestants will be visiting places such as World Gems Collection and Ripley’s Believe it or not. They will also go to Koh Laan for their CSR activities. I think the Koh Laan event is the swimsuit on the beach segment.
7. radiuno - the VIP seats are on the main floor - these probably will sell out a few days before the final. If you arrive in Pattaya a couple or 3 days before the final night - I think your chance of getting a main floor seat is good, but if you're going to try on the night before - then you'll probably end up with balcony seats. This isn't too bad if you're in the first row - using a long telephoto (75-300 mm) and strong flash I had reasonable photos last year. The drawback is the contestants are often looking down at the judges in the 1st row main floor - so you have to time it to catch their faces well. If you're not in Pattaya 2 or 3 nights before the finals - try to get a friend to pick up VIP seats for you, if you're keen on being closer. pdogg is right, the Miss Tiffany Contest sells out all seat types more often than MIQ.
8. It's that time of the year again, for one of the few international contests for ts/lbs, Miss International Queen. Here is the website: Miss International Queen. There will be activities all that week, some free to the public, so if you're in Pattaya then, I would encourage you to check things out. Doubtful that Thailand will win this year, as Nong Sammy, Miss Tiffany 2011, won it last year.
9. Found an interesting Youtube video that has a range of interviews with non-p4p lbs to p4p lbs. It reinforces my feelings that despite what stereotypes are posted, and bad experiences that may happen to the average punter, they are still people too.
10. Here's an article from Sept. 29, 2012 issue of the Bangkok Post: http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/314601/airport-vultures-still-circle-prey They will be installing one way doors on the arrivals level, in order to "reduce" the amount of illegal taxis and touts at the airport. This means an arriving passenger will not longer be able to go to level 4 and catch a taxi dropping off a departing passenger to save the 50 Baht airport surcharge. No word on exactly when this will happen - but they've already tested in on Gate 5 of arrivals.
11. The story is clearly about bringing counterfeit goods into LOS - after all there has to be some way of getting in the fake stuff they don't make there to sell!
12. justsumgai - I don't think those warnings are for the average tourist. Probably more for Thais who are bringing back fakes for their business, or foreigners whose business is to supply fakes to Thai businesses. Just for your information - customs is now randomly selecting arriving passengers and x-raying their luggage if they have a large bag. I had my bag x-rayed when I arrived in July.
13. Update for those staying in the Nana/Sukhumvit area. There is now an Aeon branch located right in the Terminal 21 shopping centre on Asoke. The branch is located on the lower ground floor and has 2 cash dispenser/depositors. The branch is open 9 am - 9 pm seven days a week including holidays! So you no longer have to walk down Soi 19 to get to the Aeon ATM. I am attaching a couple of photos so you can recognize the branch.
14. It really surprises me that no one so far considered that perhaps the customer DID do something seriously bad to the lb. There are always two sides to every story, and to assume that ALL customers treat bargirls with respect and nicely is naive thinking in my opinion. There are instances where customers abuse the p4p lbs and ggs and don't think it is uncommon. While I cannot say for certain what happened in this case, I would say instead of piling on the lb with generalizations, attempting to know the whole story is a much better course of action, particularly when she has a reputation for being one of the "nice ones".
15. I have not used any dating sites - to meet anyone, although I have checked out the ads on a few. I appreciate the replies here as it covers a range of views. I do have a question for users of these sites though: what is your real reason for doing so? Ultimately you can have a no strings attached "fling" in LOS or Philippines without having to go through this process - although I do understand in the Philippines it is easier to get some contacts ahead of time. Do you ever wonder that you are contributing to creating more jaded lbs because of your actions? To get their attention do you drop "hints" that if you have a good time with them you will continue to stay in touch, and see them again, and possibly send them some support? It is indeed a two way street, and I think it is ok to use these sites, but don't string the ladies along, and hint about actions you have no intention of keeping. Keep it up front - so you don't contribute to the very problems you complain about - flicks, huffs, stares, and more jaded lbs.
16. Respectfully disagree with you there DC. I think it stems more from emotional needs - many lbs grow up with the father (and sometimes mother) not accepting their decision. So having stuffed animals gives them a substitute for the emotional support lacking when they were growing up. This is just a theory, but the next time you meet an lb who is big into stuffed animals, ask about her family situation, and keep that in mind.
17. Having asked my special panel - they said it would be difficult to find a Thai lb into BDSM. However they said there might be a couple of LB in Casanova Bar in NEP might have a couple who might fit the bill. Sorry, no names.
18. Looking good Mardhi! Wishing Anaconda much success! Does that mean the non-smoking law is not being enforced anymore? Watch out if the BiB might decide to collect some extra Baht for smoking on the premises if the law hasn't been dropped.
19. I think Angie Dickinson was the first sexy policewoman on North American television - from 1974 - 1978
20. He bought the generic version from India. I have posted that some generic versions have very poor quality control - ranging from zero active drug to 10x the active drug than what is labelled. I would not be surprised if that was part of the problem - the dose used to treat hair loss is very small compared to its usual treatment dose for benign prostatic hypertrophy.
21. Early on there was a contest that awarded free Gold membership for posting - it was determined that posts relevant to trip reports and LB information would count towards this. Thus - Boiler Room posts which are not necessarily related to LBs are not included in the post counts. It will be up to the mods/admin if they want to change this - but certainly I can see the reasoning, especially if they run a similar contest in the future.
22. Truvada is NOT a vaccine - it is a combination of 2 antiretroviral drugs (tenofovir and emtricitabine) which are currently in use as part of the cocktail of antiretroviral drugs used to treat HIV patients. It was found that for people who are HIV negative, once a day use of this drug could reduce the chance of infection by over 90%. However, for that kind of protection it must be taken daily. As far as availability in SE Asia the separate drugs are probably available, but Truvada is probably not, except in places like Singapore or Hong Kong. I would NOT advise the use of knock off Truvada if you happen to see it in LOS, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, etc.
23. Thanks for the comments guys. It really is important to know - we've heard non-substantiated guessestimates tossed around what the HIV rate is among the p4p lbs, but with figures that are more reliable we can see it's significantly high. So what does that mean for p4p clients? Well, as discussed earlier, the use of the Oraquick HIV test might be something to consider - although I cannot recommend it due to the latency problem (someone infected doesn't show +ve until antibodies are formed against the virus but are still infectious - varies between 2 weeks to 3 months). Use of the new antiretroviral combination drug Truvada (tenofovir and emtricitabine) - however it costs $13,000 USD a year, and if not taken daily, the protection offered is significantly reduced. Or does it mean increasing safe sex practice and standing up for those practices to educate those who think bare backing is the ultimate sexual turn on and pleasure? I don't mean to flame those who boast about it on both lb and gg p4p forums, but at least to comment and educate so others know what the risk is, even if the OP doesn't care. Ultimately those clients who bare back put all of us at risk - both lbs and customers. Anyway, time to get off my soapbox - it's a personal decision for each of us to make who are involved in the p4p lb scene.
24. Here's a topical story from today's Bangkok Post: http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/303850/sex-drugs-stigma-put-thai-transsexuals-at-hiv-risk Here's the caption from the accompanying photo: Thanakorn, or Gigi, pack condoms with leaflets before giving them to transgender people at The Poz Home Center in Bangkok. From a cafe near the go-go bars of a Bangkok red light district where she campaigns for safe sex, Gigi gives an unvarnished view of how she joined Thailand's growing ranks of transgender people with HIV.
25. You would have to check hotel policy about that. Some hotels will only allow 1 extra guest "free" and may charge 500 Baht or more for each extra guest. Other hotels don't blink an eye - with 2 extra guests. I'm not sure about 3 extra guests though - I think that might incur extra charges regardless.
