  1. Ian & Sylvia "Satisfied Mind"... one of my favorites Lefty, have a bunch of their LPs that get constant play... & you probably thought it was a real stumper Just recently listened to "The French Girl" ( as in Quebec) recently on utube 'cos this flashed on me one day: "Vague promises to meet again... but her friends down at the French cafe had no english words for me." Nice.... Ok same time period, hope it's not too obscure, it was a big hit here in the Jurassic era: And when I see the sign that points one way The lot we used to pass by every day ....(Song title).... You won't see me follow you back home The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same You're not to blame
  2. This is extremely helpful as I am just starting to explore this stuff, thanks all!
  3. ...and like me you got the artist right but the song wrong pd.
  4. I have several limes & fresh bottles of gin & tonic standing by to use for this emergency. We had a decent typical snowstorm all afternoon dropping several inches & a lull for several hours & now it's just starting up again but with more wind. They're talking about all night & most of tomorrow getting hit.... & I don't have to shovel anymore... whee!
  5. Polythene Pam by the Fab 4 for Quiz Night? No Idea about globetrotter's.... How about: "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows."
  6. Great idea I haven't used airbnb yet... I wonder if they are represented in smaller areas like Duma or Davao, I'll have to check before my next foray.
  7. Welcome & good luck Kimberly!
  8. Ladyboy... 'cos she has broad shoulders, thick waist, plus large hands & stands as tall as the guys, not a head shorter like most Thai ladies... mind you it took watching it a second time in slo-mo to catch some of that. A perfect face though...

    Obituaries

This is an actual newspaper obit, not a gag. I wish we all had this kind of attitude when vacating the premises, especially at such a young age... http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/citizensvoice/obituary.aspx?n=kevin-j-mcgroarty&pid=171851148&fhid=4786
  10. 1- you see beautiful women everywhere ... but you always check if they actually are genetic women or ladyboys 2- you are disappointed if they really are beautiful genetic women 3- after a week you begin to fantasize that perhaps you actually are "hansum" 4- you find footprints on your toilet seat 5- you are taking a piss at a lav shared by a bunch of bar beers & some guy from behind startles you & starts massaging your neck expecting to get paid after you just pissed your leg
  11. This one made me laugh out loud. I worked in an large open office type floor with a large percentage of expats & foreign born folks & every time someone would ask for a suggestion of how to get somewhere all the native NYers would get up & stand around offering completely different variations of subway & bus routes much better than everyone else's. Every Time!
  12. And speaking of the Crickets I'm embarrassed to say I don't think I ever heard this original version of a classic tune, at least i can't remember. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6om4ssqM2lc
  13. Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, & the pilot. Waylon Jennings, apparently one of the Crickets at that time, claimed that he gave up his seat on that flight to one of the stars either because they weren't feeling well or because Jennings had to do laundry & left later, I've heard both stories. The Day the Music Died...
  14. Quite an interesting year for me since they offered me a package at work & I retired, much to my utter surprise, a few days before the offer expired - a few years earlier & a couple of dollars lighter than I figured but the job had long since become depressing & mind-numbing & what's left of the staff was largely bereft of humor, touchy & wearing down my psyche daily.... life is too short: I cannot find a single male in my direct bloodline who reached 75 so I jumped ship. Taking my time about the future...
  15. One thing that hasn't been mentioned concerning this is the deteriorating state of the russian economy. It will probably be limping for at least a couple of years anyway & that will decimate the middle class tour packages that Pattaya gets, some may have rushed & bought holiday packages while their ruble was worth still something... if they didn't need a car or washing machine instead, but after that I believe the Russian touristic herd will thin out. So on one hand the number of drunk/sullen comrades may start to dwindle pretty soon, but that may not be good for Pattaya's big economic picture. I also agree with Stealth that the PI is pretty undeveloped for mass tourism & easy mongering outside Angeles, more work in arrangements than most folks want to do on holiday.
  16. The Newsroom was an HBO series that ended just recently after 2 1/2 seasons. A lot of it was like this video: smart to the point of smugness & nobody was ever at a loss for quick witty repartee containing instant recall of exact dates & facts in a very artificial manner. It had a tendency to go off into liberal monologues like this a bit too often & was 50% comedy & 50% drama, an uncomfortable mix to me. Excellent cast & good writing otherwise, I felt it hit stride the last season but that turned out to be only 3-4 episodes. OTOH it was far better than 98% of the other crap on the boob tube.

And now poor Joe Cocker is gone too. RIP
  18. Yes, Arch.... recognized the hood? (According to Lonely Planet now the #1 place to visit in the US, of course they also have Duluth in the top ten so that casts some doubt as to their sanity.)

    The GREAT

A real historic figure & a mighty presence... I got to interact with him briefly twice professionally (not in the ring! ) first in the late 80s & even then he was respectful, playful & trapped in a silent personal prison, but his eyes were laser focused on you. When it was time for him to speak he disappeared for 20-30 minutes with his wife & his doctor & then came out able to to speak a bit & laugh & spar playfully with anyone nearby, he obviously enjoyed the interaction but it tired him out quickly. I mention this because it's hard to imagine him still alive & deteriorating at this glacial pace more than 25 years later, yet another bout in his life. I wish him the best.
  20. Walking in the hood today & saw this attempted break & enter suspect.
  21. Didn't the Virgin Rats release an LP in the 1970s?
  22. Relationships are like the old joke about the 2 old ladies complaining about a restaurant: A - "The food there is terrible these days!" B - "Yes.... And they give you such small portions!" It may be a bad meal.... but it's their meal, watch out!

    Rectal Feeding

Asked about President Bush’s awareness of the program, in dispute in the Senate report: “A flat-out lie … This man knew what we were doing, he authorized it, he approved it.” Wow! The gloves really are off between Little Dick & W. They apparently weren't talking to each other by the end of the second term, probably because W had listened to him & taken his advice on the Middle East & realized what a mistake that was. ( And Dum Dum W is famous for not asking advice from his own former president father, a psychiatrist would have a field day with this.) He didn't pardon Dick's chief of staff who went to prison & was disbarred & that angered the Dark Lord, so apparently he is going to try & tar W's low rep even further going forward. Harry Truman famously said "If you want a friend in Washington get a dog."
  24. Don't knock them: safe cheap(er) nabes with the best Thai restos in NYC as well as an amazing array of other cheap ethnic eats. (The 7 line has more ethnic groups & languages residing along it from Sunnyside to Flushing than any other route in the world, people have done dissertations & tv shows about this.) 15 minutes to midtown... I'd throw Jackson Heights in the mix too (Astoria also, but that may be too $$$ now as well). Couples with new kids are hitting all these nabes as they are priced out of Manhattan/Brooklyn. LIC is completely upscale now, like Hoboken. Coincidently I was forwarded this yesterday on Lonely Planet.... it's a token of things to come here. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/north-america/travel-tips-and-articles/best-in-the-us-2015
