  3. Moved back to the states this month after three years on the road, bought a nice 2nd-hand Caddy and will settle down here now for a year or 3. Happy to see family and friends once again and the weather is perfectly awesome in every way; man did I miss these 50-degree nights with no humidity! One thing's for sure though; it's damned expensive here. Man, the money just flies out of my pocket, for everything from milk and snacks and gas, to health and auto insurance, which I just had to buy; Caddy insurance was only $55 a month but my health care is $493; ouch. So far so good....I am sure I will miss Thailand or Laos come January when it's freezing cold around here, but Mexico or Florida are a short non-stop flight away.

  4. In another thread Glasswax said: Interesting point! When talking to most bargirls we obviously want to speak simply and be understood. But this doesn't mean that we have to speak intentionally incorrectly. Of course best if we can speak Thai. But otherwise should we or should we not go the Thaiglish route?

  5. A BM on lbp has reported that Tim has sold the Roadhouse Bar (formerly Sally's) to a guy who owns two other bars in Soi 5. There is a leaving party for Tim this Friday 31 August. Ripper - I was there last November, there were 5 ladyboys there then - Nus/Nuch, Som, Nan, Dow, and a ladyboy from Laos who usually worked behind the bar, I think her name was Jane or Jen. I think the girl you are thinking of may be Dow/Dao - does that ring a bell? If she had boobs then it would probably be Dow as only Som and Dow had boltons. I will try to post the photos I took of them when I have time - probably at the weekend. Edit: If it was Dow I have her email and mobile number if you want it.

  6. Tell me about it... You can add property tax, monthly utility bills (electricity, water, garbage, sewer, etc.), cell phone, wifi connection, monthly HOA dues, etc., etc., to the list...My problem is that as a property owner I still have all those expenses even when I travel... During the winter it's warm where I live in Arizona...too fucking hot now...so it's not uncommon to have a monthly 300 to 400 dollar electric bill when I run the aircon...I try to visit SoCal as often as I can to beat the heat,,,Of course my old Stang V8 sucks gas so there you go...It's a wash I suppose... I'm lucky in one respect, the Veterans Admin provides free medical for some of us old worn out Vets...The doctors are good...The wait is long...Because I'm old I also get Medicare...But it ain't free and there is a 20% copay...So I am waiting now to have some surgery done at the Vets Hospital rather than pay a fortune to a private doctor... Course, cause you're single you'll likely be eating out with some frequency...Add that to your expenses....When Socrates and his lady visited I found a nice Thai restaurant...And seriously only a couple dollars more than a meal at Pattaya Beer Garden and the food is every bit as good...I've returned a few times on my own...The little Thai waitresses also have very cute asses... Of course authentic inexpensive Mexican fare is available all over my area...So now I'm as fat as my friends across the border... Don't know that I would pick Mexico as a travel destination these days JaiDee...A bit dangerous...Sad for me cause I spent many happy days in Mexico...Perhaps the east coast is safer... I think now that my trips to Thailand will be few and far between...I'm old and tired and as expensive as my country is, it's my country and it's big and eclectic and electric and I like it... After about 40 years of watching, I even registered to vote...

  7. From experience I have learnt to speak slowly and clearly using easy 'should' know words. I been surprised and found that a lot of Thai's will ask me if they dont understand what Ive said as they are interested in learning. If a Thai is really bad at English in any form then our time together is limited unfortunately and only physical, I dont do baby talk or sign language. How many times have u seen a guy sitting in a restaurant with his barfine and 10 minutes later the conversation has dried up and the food cant come quick enough. Probaby played connect 4 in the bar as well and thought she'll be great fun to go to dinner with before the deed. Why put yourself through that and in public too. Im all for treating a girl well and with respect, but know when to buy noodles on the way home or sit in a public eatery. Ive made the effort to learn the Thai words I need to know for my local Mammas and Pappas shop and the market as Ive needed to or go hungry but fluent Thai, thats beyond me.

  8. This is a difficult nut to crack - I'd say the level I speak english to them corresponds to their ability to speak english. With some you'll have to "dumb it down" (No insult intended whatsoever) - with others you can go all out on elaborate english, dry humor and everything else you can think of. But basically I'd say that it all comes down to whatever level of english she's speaking - you simply adjust to that...go above - and risk a whole lot of misunderstandings, which are not worth it.....

  9. FB, the idea of this thread was meant for those who didnt comprehend our "Slang" words, sayings like "dogs bollocks" or "chuffed" for example and "IF" they so desired could come here and look them up It wasnt meant to be interesting, educational, about the "U's" or any other bollocks for that matter, just helpful

  11. Well said JD. And a word to punters, don't talk to a Thai the same way she talks to you. She feels slighted because she knows what correct Englsih should sound like even though she can't always say things that way.Glass

  14. VNese breakfast. Essentially 3 kinds of options: soups, rice dishes, bread (French baguettes) based. My weekly breakfast menu (give or take): Monday. Pho soup (pronounced fir). This is a flatstrap rice noodle (akin to tagliatelli or fettucini), served in a broth with beef or chicken, leaves (basil, mint, coriander), beansprouts & sauces of your choice (chilli, soybean). Tuesday. Mi gio heo (pronounced mee zor heo). It is wheat noodle soup served with a chunk of pig's trotter or shank, slices of carrot and white radish, fried onion and leaves (as above). Wednesday. Bo kho (pronounced boor koor). A broth with the usual leaves and chunks of boiled beef with some carrot. It is eaten with a baguette, or with noodles called ho choo, which are a vermicelli type version of rice noodles, or again, with nui (noooeee), a kind of wheat pasta like conchiglie. Thursday. Bun rieu (pronounced bwoon zeeoo). Another soup with thin rice noodles, containing this time mushed crab innards (brain, etc.), tomato, leaves, sauces, some various meat cuts such as chicken sausage slices. Friday. Bun bo. A sort of combination of the above two. The bwoon noodles with beef (boor). Saturday. Chao long (pronounced chow lom). This is rice gruel. The long means offal, so the soup contains slices of stomach sausage, bits of windpipe, ear gristle, liver and bean sprouts. Served with batter sticks about the size of 2 normal sausages. These are cut up and dunked in the chow. Sunday. Banh mi trung (pronounced bun mee choong). A fried egg sandwich. Two fried eggs, usually sunnyside up, put in a baguette split from end to end, with cucumber slices, coriander and soy sauce, salt & pepper. As you can see I avoid rice in the mornings. I eat rice for most lunches. Once a day is more than enough. The above is stylised of course. I don't hug strictly to any routine or anything like that. But these are my choices.

  15. This may sound strange to all the mongers here, but in a way I feel fortunate that my libido has kind of gone south in the past few years and these days I don't even bother anymore, and certainly not with relationships. I was just in Pattaya for about 10 weeks and didn't have sex with even one person, female or male or in-between and didn't give a toss either way. And, ummmmm, they certainly were available, it was low season! But even when I was much more active, say between 2000 and 2005, I only ever had ONE 'girlfriend', for about a year, and we both cheated on each other constantly so in reality how real was that? Every Thai has an angle, every single one, with us westerners. Sorry but I don't believe some of the stories I see about how "she really did/does love me and after a year or 2 still doesn't want anything from me" .....give it some more time and eventually the bomb will get dropped on you, if for no other reason due to pressure from her family. Keep in mind everyone is different, but I don't want to be part of any 'game'; I like my bed to myself, and sex is no big deal to me. I keep my phone off most of the time and don't want to be bombarded with messages and calls from people in "the game" when it is on, and the accent also drives me nuts after a while; I hear men my age explaining things to their girlfriends like a 5-year old and I don't want to be that guy. I like Thailand for the good weather and the cheapness factor and the fact they have so many nice beaches. The food is decent also. Relationships? Ehhh.
