First They Killed My Father is an excellent book.  We'll see how Angelina handles the directing chores.

Angelina Jolie Pitt is the latest top-tier talent to go the digital route, as the multihyphenate is working with Netflix on “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers,” a film she will direct for the studio.

The pic is based on a memoir from Cambodian author and human-rights activist Loung Ung about surviving the deadly Khmer Rouge regime.

Jolie Pitt will direct and produce the Netflix project from a script she co-adapted with Ung. Cambodian director and producer Rithy Panh, helmer of the Oscar-nominated foreign-language film “The Missing Picture,” will also be a producer.

The film will be made available to members of the streaming service in late 2016 and will be submitted to major international festivals.

Ung was 5 years old when the Khmer Rouge regime assumed power over Cambodia in 1975 and began a four-year reign of terror and genocide in which nearly 2 million Cambodians died. Forced from her family’s home in Phnom Penh, Ung was trained as a child soldier in a work camp for orphans while her six siblings were sent to labor camps. Ung survived and wrote “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers,” which was first published in 2000. Jolie Pitt read the book and contacted Ung over a decade ago. They became close friends and later adapted the screenplay together.

“I was deeply affected by Loung’s book,” Jolie Pitt said. “It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son’s homeland. It is a dream come true to be able to adapt this book for the screen, and I’m honored to work alongside Loung and filmmaker Rithy Panh.”

Jolie Pitt’s Cambodian-born son, Maddox, will also be involved in the production of the film.

Netflix’s global reach was a major factor in Jolie Pitt’s desire to partner with the streaming service. “Films like this are hard to watch but important to see,” said Jolie Pitt. “They are also hard to get made. Netflix is making this possible, and I am looking forward to working with them and excited that the film will reach so many people.” The film will be released in both Khmer and English.

17 SEPTEMBER 2015

As she prepares to direct a new film based on Cambodia's brutal Khmer Rouge, Angelina Jolie has travelled to the Asian country to meet with its Prime Minister, Hun Sen. The actress and the politician met at the Peace Palace, in the capital city of Phnom Penh, on Thursday.

Angelina has made numerous visits to the country in the lead up to filming, but this time she was granted a special meeting with the prime minister.

The Hollywood star, who is also a dedicated humanitarian, oozed confidence in a white cotton blouse, black trousers and a pair of nude heels.

Angelina and Mr Hun Sen were pictured shaking hands and discussing the mum-of-six's new project. She will adapt the harrowing memoir, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers by survivor Loung Ung, into a factual film and will start directing it in November.

The film will focus on the vicious Khmer Rouge regime, which was responsible for an estimated two million deaths, and will be seen through the eyes of a war-scarred child.

In June Angelina announced her decision to direct the film, after having read the memoir and met with the author. Together the pair adapted the book into a screenplay.

"I was deeply affected by Loung's book," said Angelina. "It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son's homeland."

The 40-year-old actress, who adopted her eldest son Maddox from Cambodia when he was just a baby, added: "It is a dream come true to be able to adapt this book for the screen, and I'm honoured to work alongside Loung and filmmaker Rithy Panh."

I don't like Brad's wife at all...Fake tits and no talent.........

Loung Ung's book however is magic......I have read it twice now...Ready for a third read..........

Mrs. Pitt  will have to follow in the footsteps of at least two western films The Killing Fields and Heaven and Earth both true chronicles of experiences in Cambodia and Vietnam......

A formidable task.......

We shall see............

Does anyone know who is penning the script.............

Ms Ung has written a second book I believe titled Lucky Child that I think chronicles her life after First They Killed My Father.....I haven't read it...Suppose I should.......

She has to be using fake tits now, since she under went a double mastectomy a couple of years ago. Her decision based on her family history of breast cancer, and genetic testing that indicated she was high risk of also developing the disease.

Respectfully RX I am well aware of Ms Jolie's reasoning for her huge (Trump's favorite word) breasts...Probably more so than you are...

My sister died from breast cancer...My mother had a double mastectomy...My daughter's mother (my former wife) died from breast cancer....

My daughter is obviously scared shitless...She was obsessed with the disease and had test after test...Went to specialist after specialist...And they all told her there is NO guarantee if you have the surgery that you still won't get breast cancer...To ease my daughter's fears, I offered to pay for surgery....After 15+ years my daughter still has natural breasts.......

I was wrong to mention Jolie's fake tits...I apologize to you and the world and take my words back...

I just don't like her....

But, this thread is not about Jolie's tits it is about bringing First They Killed My Father to the screen......

My contention is that Jolie is not capable of doing that...........

I love this book and I am excited to see it being made into a film and I truly hope I am wrong about Jolie......

And I will happily eat my words if I am wrong....

This is not an easy conversion from printed page to screen...That's why I asked if anyone knows who is writing the screenplay......
