Queen Of Cebu 2012 , VANITY KINTANAR SALINA - BANKS

CEBU, Philippines - A 30-year-old BPO team manager was crowned the new Queen of Cebu-Universe, in a three-hour pageant spectacle held Friday night at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Lahug.

Miss Paraguay Vanity Salinanga dashed the dreams of 20 other candidates, including early favorites Misses Philippines and Ukraine by snatching the major title among five other titles given that evening.

During the sit-down Q&A with pageant host Jude Bacalso, Vanity expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the non-discriminatory culture towards LGBTs (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders) within the industry that has employed her for the last eight years.

Working for contact center company Aegis, the former Miss Gay Mandaue 2010 said she values the equal opportunities regardless of gender in her workplace. “Thank God for the BPO industry, because I can go to work with my long nails, I can wear what I want, and I don’t have to be in a man’s suit.”

But her workplace’s openness doesn’t reflect the condition that her fellow LGBTs in the country go through, which is why she is deadset on migrating to Canada “because they have a level playing field.”

In an interview right after her win, Vanity said she will finish her one-year reign, after which she’s off to find greener pastures in the North American promise land. “Gay rights are protected under Canada’s laws, plus their health care is free for everyone. So it’s a win-win for me. Not to mention there are more opportunities there for people like me.”

The Business Administration graduate from the University of San Carlos won P25,000 cash and numerous sponsor packages. She was also declared Best in National Festival Costume, Best in Costume and Best in Evening Gown. Her Philippine terno designer Dino Lloren also won Best Designer for Evening Gown (he got the same award last year).

Originally from Baclayon, Bohol, Vanity has been a resident of Cebu since her college days. She describes herself as an animal lover (has four dogs and a Persian cat) and a passionate traveler, but above else, values friendship and family.

“I love to challenge myself with new things and hopefully learn from them,” added the beauty queen.

Vanity revealed that she tried out for Queen of Cebu twice but failed to make the cut in both instances. She tried again this year, and now look where her persistence got her. “Third time’s my charm,” she quipped.

“I’ve always admired the empowerment that this pageant gives to transgendered women, not to mention the prestige it brings and the honor it gives. I would like to personally be part of this worthy cause.”

Vanity credited the victory to “my confidence and my drive. I really wanted this badly.”

“It’s crazy!” she gushed. “I did not expect this because Miss Philippines was such a strong contender, and so were the rest of the ladies. I am very thankful.”

Of whether the win of Philippine transgender Kevin Balot as Miss International Queen 2012 in Thailand last November 2 inspires her to try her luck in the same prestigious tilt, she replied, “I’m not closing my doors, but not at this point.”

The 2013 Queen of Cebu Pageant for Alternatives had its annual screening on August 3, 2013.  The 21 contestants for the annual pageant scheduled for the second week of November have been selected. The pictures of the 21 girls are attached below for my fellow pageantnistas to enjoy.

My favorite is Nicole (Middle Row First on Left), but she is an under-dog since she was past over last year, and works at the same organization as the reigning Queen.

Maybe Stealth can give us some more intel on any of the girls.  If anybody is on the ground in Cebu, and can provide intel I'm sure us Filipino ladyboy lovers would be appreciative.

Cheers,

Randy

Lots of girls from outside Cebu participating this year. Been hearing that this could be the last Queen of Cebu pageant. Well that's what the participants have been told. The official headshots have just been released and the pageant picks up steam from early October where there is some sort of event daily for a month up to the coronation night. For now, it is the calm before the storm, and every participant has been asked to have a Facebook account as a minimum requirement.

I also had the privelege to witness one of the Super Sireyna daily pageants that was screened on TV about a month back. The view backstage is awesome and it was a live to air tv pageant. A scandal erupted when the winner, Francine Garcia's nude pics surfaced online hours after she was proclaimed the winner. All of the finalists bar 1 or 2 are macau-yukis, the term given to the girls who work as escorts/callgirls in macau. The contest was a huge spectacle, but the whole basis of it being conducted like a proper pageant was a sham.

Lemme know if you guys would like to know more

The Queen of Cebu organisers have introduced a Facebook Darling category now whereby all likes on the official headshots and swimwear pics once they are done will be tabulated and the one with the most likes will win a cash prize. It's only been about 24 hours in now, and the competition is heating up.

One of the contestants this year, Ms Panama aka Angel Montero is one of the EFA trio of girls. There are a few 2nd time and 3rd time contestants and like I was saying before, quite a small contingent from Manila participating.

The facebook page can be found on the link below, where all the official pics can be found as well as links to each individual contestant's facebook page, which is a pre-requisite for this year's pageant.

Hey

Not sure what is going on with the link above, but here is the official Queen of Cebu facebook link. Also, the Filipina Songstress Regina Vasquez has signed on to perform at the event again.

P.S. Not sure if I mentioned this, but the Reigning Queen, Vanity Kitinar Salinana-Banks, recently got her bolt-ons and is looking hotter than ever.

Too lazy to copy and paste all 24 headshots on here of this years contestants, but the word from my contacts is that there is a little dust-up since several girls from the Manila area have entered the contest and raised the bar on the feminity level...anyway...my two favorites are attached...nothing like a ladyboy named Michael...Miss Isreal, and of course Nicole...Miss Peru and the BPO darling.

Here is the link to headshots of official entrants.
