After visiting there twice in 2011 I can say that any ladyboy who is "out" in Nepal has an extreme set of balls! Not literally [although they may have that too] but figuratively ...... it's a backwards society in many ways, and with only one large city, Kathmandu. The girls all dress in traditional Hindu garb ....seeing a girl or a ladyboy dressed in a sexy skirt or even tight jeans seems very unlikely there, but I'm sure there are many of them around, likely closeted. There is no red light district or gogo bars in KTM and in fact everything shuts down well before midnight. The fathers probably disown their sons if they show any indication of wanting to be a girl. So the ones who do come out are indeed trailblazers in that society, and it's good to see the government is working with them to try and make the transition a bit easier.
