Chef and television host Anthony Bourdain has died, his employer CNN said in a statement Friday morning. He was 61. The network reported that the cause of death was suicide.
  3. Quite useful for future travellers! Thanks for posting SJ!
  4. Anyone have any Pina Love Recommendations?
  5. Got on a team it was fun Arch. Less than a minute slow walk from Sundance.
  6. Does this include the flight booked last minute for the nurse? And the bellrings at Why Not? Man, the flight home must have been a bitch, who wants to be in pain in such a confined space. But really, the mot important thing is that you are OK, and make a speedy recovery. I am curious as to how you picked your hospital and if they made you show an insurance card, credit card or guarantee payment. Hope your recovery is quick and you are walking around Tex..
  7. Red Fox II on Street 172 between Street 13 and Street 19, but close to the the corner of Street 19 (not Red Fox on Street 136) has a Quiz Night every Tuesday night at 8:30 PM. 2 USD per person entry fee with the winning team getting the proceeds. Good Quizmaster and USD 1.50 draft beer.
  8. Doesn't sound like fun T-mac. Hope it's not to painful and you get back to 100% as soon as possible.
  9. In Cambo they say barang instead of farang, but I don't think the Cambodians say barang as much as the Thais say farang. In the Philippines we are foreigners. Are we gringos in Colombia or is that just Mexico?

    PassApp Taxi

PassApp Taxi is catching on and the rickshaws are all over Phnom Penh this year; many more than last year. This seems to be the dominant taxi app in Phnom Penh. You have a choice of 4 vehicles: Rickshaw 3000 riel (75 cent) drop. For one or two people, I think the Rickshaw is better than the Khmer Tuk Tuk. Besides being slightly cheaper, it is much easier to get in and out as it is lower to the ground. They are also brand new though they will eventually get old and run down, I also suspect there are many more PassApp Rickshaws than Khmer Tuk Tuks equipped with the App. I guess you could fit three people, but three big barang would be a very tight squeeze. Khmer Tuk Tuk 4000 riel drop. This is the standard old Cambodian tuk tuk that you're used to. I only recommend if you have three or more people. Classic Car 5000 riel drop. This is a car. Never used it. SUV 6000 riel drop. Never used it. The advantages of PassApp Taxi is that the price for a tuk tuk is cheaper than you could negotiate, you don't have to haggle, and you can put in a drop off location which means you don't have to explain where you want to go. But some drivers are not great at reading the GPS map so I sometimes have to point them in the right direction. The fare to the airport is approx 4 USD but on the street it takes haggling to get to 5 USD in the rickshaw. Used it twice today and the pickup time was less than a minute, while last year the pickup time was much longer. Of course pickup times will be longer during off hours or when raining. Sometimes their Facebook page has discount codes. https://www.facebook.com/pg/passapptaxis/ You can download the app from GooglePlay or the iStore.
  11. Took the free train and I was the only barang on it. It was filled with Khmers but I think they weren't going anywhere and it was a chance for Moms to give their kids their first ride on a train on a Sunday afternoon. The train travels extremely slowly, by far the slowest train I've ever been on but it gets you into a location where you can take a cheaper tuk tuk to your Riverside hotel. In my case there was one passenger car with a locomotive on each end. I guess if demand picks up they could add more cars. There is an air conditioned waiting area at the airport stop.
  12. Ladyboy catfight on Walking Street
  13. Good tongue technique T-mac!
  14. Numero Uno, teenage girls and gay men all over the USA are masturbating thinking of BTS. Psy, didn't come close to #1 on the American charts. Five years ago you'd hear Gangnam Style multiple times if you went bar hopping in Pattaya. To the ladyboys it sounded like Condom Star.
  15. This month, I was able to check out these places a few times. Kasikorn now has a booth down there and earlier in the month for American dollars the difference between the Buy and Sell rate was just 0.06 baht. If you make the assumption that the true rate is the midpoint between the Buy and Sell rate, then the effective commission on a hundred dollar transaction is just 3 baht. In the airport proper, other Kasikorn booths had a rate that was 2 baht lower per dollar than the booth by the airport link. Buy 100 dollars worth of baht upstairs and get around 3000 baht; buy it downstairs and get around 3200 baht. most recently Super Rich Thailand (green) had only a 0.05 difference in the Buy/Sell spread for USD. The spread is higher at all booths for the Euro and Pound. Best to check the rate at all booths for the best rate. There can be significant differences with minor currencies.

    Airport Bars

If you arrive at the airport early do you like to drink at the bar? Usually I don't but some guys like to kick off or end a holiday with a brewski. Discovered the Meeting Point Bar in the basement of Suvarnaphumi near the entrance to the Airport Rail Link to Bangkok City. Thai beer is 80 baht and San Miguel Lite is 90 baht. Anyone have any favorite airport bars anywhere in the world?

  19. Found a place to buy reading glasses for 39 baht. It's on the ground floor of TukCom on Pattaya Tai between the escalators next to the donut stand.
