  1. The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA, has begun to lift the last few remaining restrictions including re-opening sports stadiums with crowds, allowing chicken fighting matches and full school schedules and activities. However, Pattaya entertainment business owners continue to ask when closing times will be restored to pre-Covid-19 levels officially. Unofficially, the actual time of closing varies currently which has caused some business owners to claim unfairness with their venues being closed at the current legal time of Midnight while some are allegedly open much later. Pattaya City holds a special administrative status which gives city officials many benefits, one of them being later legal entertainment venue hours than most of the country and legal ability to sell alcohol at those venues. As a country, the general legal time to stop selling alcohol and close entertainment venues has always been Midnight but certain tourist reliant locations, such as Pattaya, have had the ability to have special administrative rules. However, the current Emergency Decree in place to control the Covid-19 coronavirus, currently extended until at least the end of August, takes priority over the special zoning status, meaning Pattaya legally is currently supposed to close at Midnight. Already reeling from lack of foreign tourists and a four month lock-down related closure earlier this year venues across the city, especially those focused on domestic Thai tourism, have pleaded with city officials to return the closing times to at least 2:00 AM as it was before. Unfortunately, the CCSA has so far stated that this is unlikely and the only defense given is that the National closing time is Midnight. So, for now, Pattaya may have to wait until special administrative zone abilities are returned which would happen when the Emergency Decree expires. However, there is no sign of that happening any time soon. https://thepattayanews.com/2020/08/12/entertainment-venues-officially-closing-after-midnight-unlikely-before-end-of-emergency-decree-in-pattaya/
  2. Thanks for the input guys! Was a nice day. My guess is that we actually found the chicken farm but it did not look as expected and some of the ladies we saw were indeed for sale. Also remember a time I went off road to explore on a narrow path were one can't quickly turn around and encountered a bull. Any purchase is months off, but I accidentally came upon a Honda shop walking around 3rd Road. and it piqued my interest. Was trying to get a handle on the differences between various models but my Thai didn't suffice for detailed questions and their English wasn't much better but got an idea of new bike prices which were in the low 50's. There are also two bike shops on Buakhao and Pattaya Tai, one where the delicious chicken/rice stand is in the evening. Think the two shops have the same owner. The one by the chicken stand (not to be confused with chicken farm) also had some used bikes. Mostly newish used bikes/scooters all for 39K. At that price I maybe I would go for a new one as a new Honda Click with spoke wheels was 51K and 54K if cast wheels. Anyone know if new bike prices are generally negotiable in Thailand like car prices are in the USA? But I am pretty sure that I would want a used bike selling for around 20K. Even if I overpaid a bit, could most probably sell it a year later for around 14K so am really renting for around 500 baht a month. They only had one 10 year old Yamaha 135 cc Nouvo Elegance at that price point, 17K. I would prefer to buy from a dealership so the paper work could be handled by them. She said they had many more used bikes a few months ago. Probably had to do with farangs leaving Thailand and selling. There seems to be 3 extra charges, one of which is government insurance. These charges came to 1500 baht for a new bike and 2200 for the cheap used bike. Then is subsequent years there would be a fee of 600 baht for newish bikes but more for older bikes which could be handled at their shop. Didn't ask ifthey can handle paperwork for a fee if I buy from a private individual. They said I could take the used bike for a test drive but not the new ones. I didn't ask about the warranty for either a new or used bike so don't know what is involved.
  3. The mighty Quinn......... the avatar not the arse. I will not guess the arse because I think you told me already.
  4. Good question BBG. Only in areas with little traffic. It wouldn't be used on busy Pattaya or Jomtien roads. It would be used only for very quick trips in low traffic areas. I was OK on a bike on 3 Thai islands as well as Cambodia though I would never ride in Phnom Penh.
  5. Might buy a motobike if I move. The main purpose of the bike would be to park near a baht bus and for extremely short local trips. It would be extremely rare to ride more than 3 kilometers but might be uphill or very windy. I also doubt that I would be ever going faster than 40km/hr given the local nature of the trips. So what do you guys think about these issues both for me and other readers who might have different criteria? New vs Used? Would I be correct in thinking that a bike that would be used sparingly, far less than the average bike would tilt the scale towards Used? I would think that if I wanted to sell the bike in a few years, the Used bike with few additional miles would fetch more or less the same price as the purchase price while the new bike would see a sharp decrease. If Used; how Used? It would not be important that the bike be super reliable. Also the older the bike, the less financial hit if stolen. However, quality/safety is a concern so it would be nicer to have a newish bike rather than an old broken down one. I also prefer not to deal with repairs and would be doing none of the repairs myself. So what's the sweet spot? 110 vs 125? I never paid much attention whether bikes I rented were 110 or 125. If I was going up an incline with teerak on the back would a 125 be needed? These would be very short trips of just a kilometer though. Bike vs Scooter? I guess this comes down to personal taste but given the extremely short trips does this matter? Spoke vs Cast Wheels? Googling around I read that Spoke is better for off road while Cast is better for the city. Manual vs Automatic I would think that a manual would be better for longer trip but maybe for short hops an automatic is better. But if going up and down an incline is there real benefit to the manual given that the trips on an incline would be 2-3 minute trips? Click Start This is a must for me but is there value in having both so if the click doesn't work, there would be a way of starting it. The Honda Wave for example comes with both a click and kick and either could be used. Exhaust Pipe Cover This is important as don't want any burned calfs. Are there certain types of exhaust pipe covers better than others. I was in a bike shop and the new bikes all had metal covers. Any Other Considerations?
  6. Now that Pattaya’s infamous Walking Street is open to traffic along with parking for the first time in many, many years, what’s next? Thai officials and the local constabulary have long had a love-hate relationship with the red light district. It has attracted tourists but perhaps to the tourists the bosses in Bangkok were hoping for. It was a hive of lawless rents, sub-leases, sub-sub-leases and graft. Whilst police turned a blind eye to much of the illegal activities along the strip, they were happy to profit from kick-backs, “security” and tea money. Now the Pattaya Mayor Sonthaya Khunplume says the local council wants to “reboot” Walking Street. There is no secret that the Thai government have wanted to re-invent Pattaya as a world class family destination, something quite different to what Pattaya has been famous for since WW2, the Korean and Vietnam wars – as a place of recreation for young men seeking “pleasures of the flesh”. But now that Thailand’s borders remain closed to foreign tourists, and many of the feeder markets are not allowing their citizens to travel anyway, Pattaya City officials have decided to temporarily “make over” Walking Street. But many of the shop owners, renters and bar girls are wondering if “temporary” might become “permanent” even when the flood gates are opened and tourists start flocking back? But even if Walking Street (with less ‘walking’ and more ‘parking’) is gentrified, there are plenty of other Sois in Pattaya where the the red light life is alive and well, and away from the high-rent, high-yield Walking Street real estate. The Pattaya News reports that the opening to traffic and allowing parking is just Phase 1 of the make over. Pattaya Police are so far putting a brave face on the early days of Walking Street 2.0 and say that the plan has been “smooth”. Baht buses and taxis have been instructed not to “loiter or wait for customers”… you know the way the girls did in the past. Phase 2 includes encouraging street vendors and other types of market vendors to directly park and set up shop on the street, with a focus on products and services that appeal to Thai customers. As most of the potential tourists, for now, are mostly Thais, this makes sense although it sounds much like a thousand other streets already doing the same thing around Thailand. Part of the plan will encourage tourists returning from day-trips to Koh Larn and nearby islands to be taken to browse Walking Street for dinner, snacks, nik naks and local souvenirs. And dodge the traffic whilst they’re at it (or are they going to rename the street?) The council is also organising street festivals, again aimed at domestic tourists. No dates have been announced for these events but the City is eager to draw tourists back ASAP as many of the local businesses have been suffering since the end of March. Meanwhile, council officials are working with local business owners to get them to re-open their shops to make the street more tourist-friendly and worth visiting. Some of the more entrepreneurial businesses have already changed up their business model to be more ‘Thai friendly’. Gogos and discos that previously did not allow Thai customers (did someone mention discrimination?), especially transgender and Thai men, have been forced to change their policies. Adapt or die. So the two litmus tests will be, firstly, whether the new-look Walking Street (with less walking and more durian) will attract the Thais from Bangkok and nearby provinces. And, secondly, will it revert to the ‘good old days’ when the borders open to the world and the young and restless, and mostly male, tourists again flock to Sin City. There will be a push from “those that have a say” in Bangkok to keep Walking Street a beacon of family values into the future, but the likelihood is that the baht will overrule and the high rents and high heels will be back again soon. https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/expats/pattayas-walking-street-will-it-return-to-high-rents-and-high-heels
  7. It's a legitimate debate if society should ever be locked down. But if one thinks that lockdowns are necessary tool in this fight then better to take quick action and lock down sooner than later.
  8. I'll see If I'm in the mood on Thursday; no reason to decide if I'm going anywhere more than half an hour before I go. Certainly not if it's raining. Not being sure of the exact location puts me off though. I guess Thais don't need to know the location; they get on their bike and then call their friends if in the wrong place.
  9. I walked over there today and don't see how it could possibly be a morlam site in two days. Lots of digging of dirt etc. The old site could possibly be the venue but there does not seem to fencing around it. Could be a third site but not sure where.
  10. I never heard of the band but my guess would be Atticus.
  11. Same here. Top right is a slam dunk. The two on the left wild guesses and bottom right can't ever recall seeing.
  12. I hear that there is will be a morlam on Thursday,August 13th. Think it's at the more convenient site at the end of Soi Xcyte but not really sure about this. Good luck with masks and social distancing. Note in he past there have often been Morlams on Mother's Day which is August 12th. So date may need to be verified further.
  13. Miss your teerak? I understand the need to control Covid-19 but preventing people who are willing to submit to a 2 week paid quarantine from seeing their wives, kids, gay lovers, and ladyboy teeraks is perverse nationalism run amok. Make Love Not Nationalism! #LoveIsNotTourism is a trending hashtag. https://www.loveisnottourism.org/

    2021 Tourism

I don't view this as a worst case scenario. Rather it seems like a likely scenario. If there was an Over/Under betting line I'd wager the Over. I think an extremely rosy optimistic scenario would be letting in tourists this November with a 2 week quarantine and if Covid is tamed worldwide let tourists in without a quarantine in late 2021. What do you think?
  15. I am sorry to see it's closed as it is an unique bar but I didn't even know it had re-opened. Is this a permanent or temporary closure?
  16. Walking Street is now open to cars (one way) and parking. Business owners are trying to rebrand Walking Street so that it appeals to Thai tourists since there aren't any farang tourists. Seems farangs prefer LK Metro for gogos and Treetown/Chaiyapoon/Buakaho/New Plaza for mongering. I think there is a reasonable chance that 5 years from now there won't be any gogos on WS proper with dome naughty stuff on he side sois.
  17. She has the square jar of a ladyman who hasn't had the chin op.
  18. "From 1 September, intercourse will be allowed to take place between sex workers and their clients in the German capital, but only under strict hygiene regulations." Thai girls and customers always shower before sex. Ladyboys do their best to clean out their bumhole.
  19. Quinn says he knows so we will give him credit. Chuck will tell you the answer: Chuck also asks Where The Boys Are? Not too many left at Sunee Plaza. Many more at Jomtien Complex although almost all of them, if not all, are a bridge too far.
  20. Some like breasts. Others legs or wings. Still others like thighs. It is kind of nice to sit with a ladyboy with one's hand on her thigh, not far from her crown jewels and lovestick. With so many ladyboys wearing hot Daisy Dukes, perhaps it is really Thigh Land. I wonder of The Donald is a kindred spirit, a monger at heart who loves thighs.
  21. Wondering how extensive the power out was. Mine came back on about 5 minutes ago. Anyone have/lose power?
  22. The answer to Mississippi River question is three months so Bumblebee is closest. Chuck and Nancy are having a news conference as we write and not sure exactly how this happened but Chuck said, "Who sang the song Lipstick On Your Collar"?
