tape degrades horribly, in not many years. Wish it were not so. The Furniture Guys shows were fun, but likely all I'd see now is snow. FIRST I put em on disk, then onto the hard drives. Imagine what 2 TB of movies and TV series would look like stacked up in VHS format? My bro got a gizmo that'll convert em as he was like yer bud. He should probably do that. Save him gobs of time trying to find stuff to torrent, and now the torrents are mostly huge too. I've actually seen 20 gig ones. Must be 3D or some such. My brother uses that Roku rig, loves it. Personally I want the movies in my possesion. To watch whenver I feel like. For years, and years and....quirky I know. Good info tho :)

I have hundreds of movies, mostly old. The effect discussed on tht youtube vid I first noted in Total Recall. No soul. CGI got better and the effect became more profound. It's my belief there has been a concerted effort to make people/cattle/lemmings more and more stupid so it's easier to sell increasingly shoddy and shitty things for more and more money. The kids accept this crap. It wows them, it's THEIRS. I also agree with Hoffman, tho subject matter on TV has gone to shit too. Vampires, sexy vampires, zombies, ghouls or all sorts, dark depressing death dealing shit. OR "reality" TV. Even worse. Soap operas the both of them. I'm currently downloading The Quick and the Dead. NO, not the one most know about with the bad bad Hackman, etc. The one based on a Louis L'amour novel made in 1987 with Sam Elliot. I read this thread in the commercial breaks while watching Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. They won't even TRY to top that kind of movie. And maybe that's the big problem. The college whiz kids movie types now KNOW they can't make stuff like To Kill a Mockingbird, et all. So they don't even try. Plus the lemming herd would raise a loud HUH???? wtf if they were fed something substantial. Oddly the great movies and TV shows were made for a giant group of simple, and maybe not so bright folks. I mean I Love Lucy ain't very brainy now is it? They managed to craft things all kinds of people would and could enjoy. In the end I blame the souless, empty creatures to whom money is the only way to measure things and the mindless consumers for whom inteillectual stimulation is not even a consideration (hmm, not like think, hurt brain). Money and eye candy sugar rush, that's what millions of years of evolution have come to it would appear. Johnny Carson or James Cordon? Please, only the brain dead Petri dish creations of the Wall Street mad scientists would pick the later. I'm with ya DC. I've got an almost full 1 TB of old TV shows alone. Watch how much stuff they crammed into 25 minutes of Have Gun Will Travel some time. Another 3/4 of a TB of movies AND documentaries. Docs, won't be long before that's a dead art huh?

and as of a few days ago when I checked, ROUND TRIP from NYC to Bangkok was $750, 1000 from Atlanta. Cheaper than my first flight in 2007. Of course by November it'll be $1400 and the baht will be back to 31 to the dollar hahahaha crossing my fingers from now til October :D

my grandad in Florida wore the white ones. As did many italian gents in Joisey when I was a kid (to the point where they were referred to as Guinea T's in those oh so bad pre PC days). This was always around the home and yard tho, NOT going out in public places. I've decided that most of these guys seem to think it's more comfy as the HEAT is KILLING them. Ppl just don't seem to care anymore. I've actually seen a woman in the supermarket in a housecoat and slippers. And lord knows the larger a person is the less they seem to care about how much of that they expose. I think maybe there is a "fuck you, I'm ME" component in some of this. Modern life is filled with "don't give a fuck" it seems. Maybe there's just a whole lot more CLUELESS out there now. I will say some of the clueless sorts might not pack for the HEAT and see other singlet wearers and think it's a good idea. Still, I find it vulgar. Never owned one, even when I was a rail in me yoot. I wear flip flops 24/7 ALL YEAR so sorry. I do have a nice black leather pair for going out tho :)

yeah, a real interesting thread. When I first started reading the now defunct stoagie forum, it seemed like everyone was all about getting to LOS and hating the day when they had to leave. Over time that enthusiasm seemed to change. Perhaps the core group got used to LOS and maybe even the ladyboy aspect somewhat. Reading this thread seems to have explained forum traffic and posting over recent years. All I could think of was getting BACK Thailand for the first several trips or more. At some point the luster seems to have worn off. Kinda became usual, normal, etc. Now I don't know but I suspect Thailand's political situation has had an effect to some degree. One can go from believing the smiles are real, to thinking they're sometimes real, to being sure they're mostly bullshit salesman's smiles. And the gov flip floppin on what they'll act on or not, it's annoying. I mean air dropped military raids on pleasure island? Sweeps for drugs, bans on chairs on the beach or EATING on the beach, it goes on and on. What was once gleaming silver for me is getting pretty badly tarnished now. Then too I gotta wonder if middle aged crazy is part of it too. Interesting thread for sure.

I think business only prospers after they've turned the market to SHIT. They can then employ ppl for little money, sell in all markets and buy up dying businesses, etc. They thrive if we suffer. Different kind of slavery. Sometimes life seems so fuedal.

heavens no, but they're such newbs at it. Quite basic. Also it does not bother me so much because it's not MY country. I'm greatly saddened to see the (at one time) promise of freedom turn into a promise of freedom to SHOP and constant almost humming backround noise to buy buy buy. Even PBS has basically gone commercial. Mostly the only exhortations to buy are beer banners in Cambodia where I might likely locate. Of course Bangkok or any major Thai city will be just about as bad, but since I don't speak Thai I don't notice the depth of soul selling purchase whores. I rather like it that food and a little beer can cause an instant party. Mostly I avoid tourist areas so what you speak of is not quite so prevalent (or obvious at least). Those types usually hot foot it to Bangkok or Pattaya, etc.

I'd move there for good in a heartbeat if I had the means. Everyone I was really close to has died in the last ten years, cancer, suicide, old age, cancer. I do not like the modern american "culture" (which seems 100% based on money and what you buy/wear/own). The movies suck, the cars are boring and the music...same. I feel like Rip Van Winkle, just woke up and don't see anything I know anymore. I find the weirdness of things over there wonderful. I LOATHE winter, and am used to heat and humidity so it's better for me over there that way too. No family. I never have gone as a holiday maker or ladyboy hunter. I barely even drink. I go to live there, in an everyday way, as I do there. I guess I am one who would say life is shit here for me. Boring. Time to move on. At the very least I'll spend as much time as possible over there. With any luck I'll move for good soon and go up a Wat chimney in due time. added for balance :)

Seems kickass lost it's domain. I'da figured Somalia would be hard to influence but they banned KA. Ain't worked for me in a couple days. So Pirate Bay down and reorganizing (might try oldpiratebay,) and like I figured, they're after the new #1, KickAss. They're kinda back up a bit, but it seems TONS of old torrents are just dead and broke from all this. Bugs me, I have several good ones at 90%...ACK! if you can't find some good movies on this one, you ain't lookin. I been DL'n the necessities for some time now suspecting the day would come (too soon) when torrents were a pain in the ass to find and complete.
