    Chow Soy

I sent an email to the owner of the Chow Soy Guest House asking about room availability during my upcoming visit. He has not replied. Do any of you know him and able to make contact on my behalf?
  2. Hahahaha! yes, I gonna try to paint a few ST room walls.
  3. If your 30 a lifetime membership perhaps represents a sound investment. At my age 15K baht is better spent on the primary reason I am in Pattaya in the first place.
  4. Yes, quite the "hurting" for sure.
  5. Quite the contrary Mr. Cox. I'm saving myself. I will be there in less than 2 weeks and boy oh boy do I have an itch on.
  6. Sure he is. He's planning on closing the business the day after.
  7. Yes you're right Kahuna. I hate guns and think the world would be a whole lot of a better place it they were totally banned. No doubt about that. However I feel the same way about other things like Nazis. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy a well constructed piece of entertainment about them, pro or con. Like I said in my post. If you are going to see a QT movie expect to see a lot of what he likes to do and what he does well. I am not a big opera fan and as such I don't go out to the opera. In the event I ever did, I would know what to expect and not come away from it saying the show was good but there was much too much opera singing. Ok, I am wide open now. Come and get me!!!
  8. Wasn't criticizing you for not using the "N" word at all Kahuna. I was simply trying to say (perhaps poorly) that nobody wants to say the word anymore and your reference to the "N word" in your post was an example of that. I wasn't judging. It was a statement and certainly not a criticism.
  9. Yup, I want to pay a visit to the Darkslide also. It's not that far from Nana via the Skytrain. I'll let you know when I am in town.
  10. Not at all is my answer to your first question. I think if one goes to a QT movie they should expect to see the things he does well. One of things he does extremely well is violence. Sam Peckinpah was a pioneer in cinema violence however no one choreographs it as well as QT. Interestingly while watching it I was not so much impacted with the violence itself as much as I was about how well it was done. You have to hand it to him. He's good at it. I think he makes fun of it himself since he elected to do a cameo playing a character who gets blown to bits in one of the best cinematic visual achievements in violence I've seen. Personally I do not think using the word "nigger" is such big deal. Perhaps that is because I am Canadian and as such it does not carry the same historical weight and significance. It is a word. It is a demeaning, pejorative word and used extensively for a long time. We as a society today have evolved, are more educated and enlightened. We do not use words like "nigger" any longer because it conjures up a lot of wrong in our history that we would rather forget. Even your question does not use the word. You refer to the "N" word. Nonetheless the word is part of history and as such we cannot erase or hide it if we wish to teach our history honestly.
  11. I saw Django today. Liked it a lot. Truly well crafted film. Can't find any fault with it really. Good story, right run length, terrific photography, excellent editing, sensational soundtrack and stellar performances from all. QT makes an appearance and my oh my has he put on a number of pounds since his lean years. I guess success and the Weinstein brothers can do that to a man.
  12. I believe Django opened on Christmas day or at least it did in Canada. Canada is considered part of the US domestic market.
  13. Guys, I too will be kicking around the Nana neighbour from January 27th to 30th. Drop me a PM if you want to meet up for a drink and what not.
  14. Going to see "Django Unchained" tomorrow and also "Zero Dark Thirty" if it is playing in the same Cineplex. Sunday is my movie day. Have you seen either JaiDee?
  15. I loved "About Schmidt" so perhaps I'll give "The Descendants" a go.
  16. I echo Paccie's sentiments. I watched the trailer also and simply figured it was a sentimental family drama with its highs and lows. Never for a moment thought it would appeal to me. I have a long flight coming up. If it is offered onboard I'll give it a look.
  17. I hope you enjoy it. It is a classic documentary and a must if you are a serious Lowry fan.
  18. Turkey, If you haven't already screened it you should take a look at a movie called "Under the Volcano". It's about Malcolm Lowry and was made in the 80s by a famous documentary pioneer filmmaker, Donald Brittain. Here is the link: http://www.nfb.ca/film/volcano/
  19. Great information Turkey. Much thanks.
  20. Some lovelies there for sure. Perhaps I might have a chance to get to a few of them before DT limps into Bangkok from Pattaya.
  21. ET, don't know if you can keep up with these two. Tread carefully, they'll tucker you out.
  22. Don't worry ET. Knowing AB and Wombat they'll still be partying when you get there.
  23. Yes, I've experienced the "roasted nuts" thingy myself. Not pleasant but please do not tell DT. I want him to slap it on with vigour.
